Excellent video tutorial, thanks for the helpful tips!
I use either tamiya fine spray primer or Vallejo through my brush. I used to use krylon but I don’t like going outside to spray. One day I’ll get an evac system for a spray booth
I used to have lots of trouble with that Vallejo black primer spattering and clogging my airbrush every single time I used it. Drove me crazy, until I learned to strain it through a fine mesh. Once you do that, you can spray without clogging for hours!
I never tried that. I just always shook the hell out of it and then thinned it out
Great information thanks for sharing.
Thank you
Awesome tutorial …..
I use the citadel chaos black. It’s expensive but does a great job. I’m definitely going to try the krylon primer see how it works.
Here's a tip for spray painting. put you spray can in a bucket with warm water. you want it on the hot side, but not so hot you can't put your hand in it. The idea is raise the pressure in the can so that when it forces the paint/primer out it has more pressure and it atomizes better.
Great tip! Thanks
Ive actually had better success using paint via airbrush as a primer of sorts. It sticks well and stays in place after clear coat. Only primer ive used was the Vallejo one and it gave me the same results as the paint "primer". All that said what benefits would primer have over my current methods? I guess i just dont see the purpose of primer but id like to get a second opinion to better understand.
Nice one Henry, I tend to use Rust-o-leum paint/primer rattlecan, is there a particular reason why you prefer the airbrush? Also do you have a preference over what colour primer? Flat black flat grey? Cheers
I like the grey because I can see the details better. I actually use the rattle can more than the airbrush
i dont have a good local hobby shop, so im stuck with Michaels.. i been using canvas gesso (white, black or mix em for grey).. its THICK but i dilute it with like more than %50 water or flow... the coverage is amazing even when thinned out so much.. it sticks like mad and provides "tooth".. ive never had any paint fall off or chip.. im sure good primer would be as good or better but the online providers charge way too much.. i havent noticed any type of detail loss, but i tend to use only 1 coat (because it covers so well) and sometimes a follow up coat to hit any spots i missed..
Michael's now carries that primer. Try it out!
Plenty of primer available online too, so no need to be stuck. I just got a can of some nice stuff on Amazon.
@@h.b.nielsen5619 Yea i hear ya.. ATM im pretty darn happy with my gesso hack.. the last bottle of grey liquitex primer i bought online was all gritty and gummie even after filtering... i used to just use rattle cans of stuff like tremclad too.. thnx for the info tho ;)
I use both rattle cans and Vallejo air brush paint. The only issue I have is with White primers. Neither want to come out good, the white stays tacky on the rattle can and is too splotchy for Vallejo. Not really found one I'm satisfied with yet. The black and grey's have no issues.
One question I do have. I'm not normally a Punisher fan, but I do like the model you have at the 6:00 min marker. Can you share where that is available from?
It's from my patreon. A custom commission
Fantastic video as always. One question, this time you mention that you use grey primer for faces and skin. This time you did not mention white primer. So, for skin and faces, should we stick with grey primer instead of white primer? I know every model is different but I would really like to have your input on this. I have been doing this hobby for about a year and your videos are the reason why I get the good results I get. Thanks!!!
I didn't mention white because it tends to wash out the details where I can't see them especially if I need to sand something there. If you use white also make sure you apply it very thin to begin with. It tends to bleed a bit.
Thank you!!! The bleeding part of using white primer is exactly what was happening to me and it was also washing out details. This is why I watch your videos and you are one of the best, if not the best, explaining things like this. Thanks again.
Does whole model need to be sanded or just support /rough areas
Just areas
One you forgot about the rattle cans..Make sure its warm enough outside
If its too cold out,it won't stick
This is true!!!
@@TheCreativeCollector I learned the hard way sadly
Thanks for the tip!! Where were you last winter when I tried to prime a model when it was 40 degrees outside. No wonder it did not stick and ended up being a mess. 😖😭
@@tonyt3484 I was trying to break into your house, but the locked too well
I have a 6 year old cousin who I want to paint 3D prints with. She's not going to care if they come out that great, she's just going to have fun watching it print and painting it herself. Do you have any advice for just quick rough painting of small 3D prints? Is there paint that works good enough on PLA without priming or sanding?
Any acrylic paint will work really. I've even used cheap craft paints. Just make sure the prints fully cured and clean if they're resin. PLA prints are good when printed. And of course with resin prints just make sure to use proper ppe with kids.
Well done. 30-35 psi when priming? Do you use the same for painting or do change for that?
I keep it around the same but I might drop it to 30psi sometime
@@TheCreativeCollector I'll have to give that a shot.
Hi love your videos ❤
KitbashCarnage hear at the age of 31 iv recently got back into the warhammer/kitbashing community agen after taking 15year brake to pay bills and so on .
I have taken the leap head on and started a youtube channel along with Instagram, Facebook and Tiktok. It's hard with this algorithm thing is somthing to get used to along with editing and so on but my love and the flame for my lost passion has been reignited more then ever and dont plan on stopping soon .

Awesome. Good luck to you mate!
Indoor/outdoor....it still stinks up the inside lol not sure why they say you can use it inside. Isnt it acrylic? Or is it lacquer?
It's acrylic
The inside of that Dr strange cloak was so hot!!! Are those decals??
No sir. All hand painted
@@TheCreativeCollector that's insane. Amazing job.
Wait, are you sanding with an electric toothbrush?
Close! It's called the GTool. It's from Mr. Hobby.
@@TheCreativeCollector The GTool? Did you borrow it from your wife? ;)
No I got it from your mom.
