okay for all my cheap acrylic paints paints like apple barrel paints I use windshield washer fluid and it works pretty good for me so far never had a problem
If it's like the washer fluid here in the USA, that's methanol based. I'm no safety nanny, (I use acetone without gloves). But methanol is the toxic kind of alcohol that should be contact minimized. (It's also why you pour off the 1st few jars when distilling and the reason freeze distilled alcohol like apple-jack gives a bad headache). I'd suggest instead using a mix of ethanol or ipa and distilled water.
Now that we have this how about a video on Making your own contrast paints and doing a comparison/review. I know there's many videos out there but after your slapchop video I'd be interested in your take.
Quick question, can this also be used for wooded models. I have a wooden model of the Star Wars Jedi grappling pouch and it needs to be airbrushed. How does the paint stay without peeling of? Should I use a primer? Well that was more than 1 quick question but I really loved this video and have you on speed dial. Thank you for sharing. Laurie from San Francisco.
Yes Laurie you can use it on wood.Just make sure your surface is free from oils and dust and you shouldnt have any problem with the paint sticking. You can also use a good clear coat over the top of it. Thanks for tuning in!~
Thanks so much for this great video. Can I use Distilled water with Vallejo paints as a temporary quick fix? I have on order the Vallejo thinner but I needed this print painted before Sunday. Thanks again
Just getting into the airbrush world, once you thin the paints would you recommend storing any leftover? Also looking at making some custom colors, would you recommend mixing the paint and storing it without thinning? Any issues spraying on fiberglass?
If I have a larger batch I mixed up I'll store it with the thinner in it. Be careful though. I've seen it seperate from the thinner before and gloop up. I havent had any issues spraying on fiberglass but just make sure your surface is prepped well.
@@TheCreativeCollector as I watched your video it doesn’t seem to matter a perticilar brand or is there a good happy medium? Like one that you recommend, I’ll be spraying a large surface fiberglass fish mount replica.
Awesome video! Quick question if I want to use acrylic paint on clothing like a pair of jeans and do a acrylic paint splatter on a pair of jeans to give some design do I need to use the medium flow product after I’ve painted my product and let it dry? So that the acrylic paint will stay once I wash the jeans in the washing machine and or keeps the acrylic paint from cracking? I found this on Amazon: Mont Marte Premium Acrylic Flow Medium 8.45oz (250ml) And lastly.. I do a paint splatter design on my jeans without the medium flow product. Would it be any issue down the road with me washing the Jean material later like the cracking and peeling of the paint? Does the medium flow product seal and glue the acrylic paint to the Jean material.. Ty

Great video Henry but what is your ratio for thinning Vallejo model color for brush painting? I've watched your videos and your get great coverage with brush painting but I struggle thinning it as it comes out too thin and I wind up doing 4-5 coats to get good coverage. What's your secret? :)
I mostly just eye it. Like, I'll get a dime size dab of paint and only mix it with maybe 2 to 3 drops of reducer for brushing. And if I need to then I'll add a drop more. I just add a little at a time.
@@TheCreativeCollector I've been using rattle cans for some time and I'm transitioning to airbrush, so even if I airbrush i can clear coat with a spray can?
As far as mixing goes the best thing you can do is find some small ball bearings and put one or two in each bottle then you can shake it up effectively
@@TheCreativeCollector do you think it’s worth having Vallejo air knowing you need to thin them anyway. Seems it’s better to just buy the other sets if you need thinner anyway.
One problem that comes up with all these acrylics is once you use the paint it starts to slowly thicken and dry up around the openings. Then when you thin the paint , it does not matter how much time and effort you put into the process, any dried speck of acrylic paint will not dissolve. So if you are experiencing problems running any these paints , consider straining the paint somewhere in the process. Many cheap and easy ways to do this.
Most of your vids that I've seen you skip over the priming step- just curious do you thin out your airbrush primer? If so, that's the ratio? Hopefully I didn't miss this in a video somewhere. Starting my first airbrush project and am playing catchup.
Usually I skip the priming steps because I just use a rattle can. If I use a bottled primer (which is very rare) then I just thin it the same way I do my paint.
I need a lot of help, I'm new to using air brushes and idk what I'm doing, I can't afford airbrush paints so I'm using acrylic and distilled water to thin it but I can't get the consistency right, is there any way you can give me advice
New to the craft and struggling I must say. Paints comes out like water. I have used 2 drops Vallejo thinner and 3-4 drops Vallejo surface primer. I put the thinner first and then the primer and mix it with brush but not really getting the paint effect like you ….
I have small bottles of acrilic paint but the result is bad. It paints but also spitting, if I may say. I know I'm a newbie but I've try lowing the pressure, raising it, but does the same thing. Is it the bad quality of the airbrushs because they all do it. I have two same Mastercraft pen size and a 0.8mm Yosoo pistol. This last one I bought it at $64

I haven't tried the primer but I would use a different psi for it if you tried. It tends to be thicker than normal paint.
