Drumtec Real Feel Mesh Heads Review

- Today I’m doing a quick review of the Drumtec Real Feel mesh heads. So I’ve been using these for a few months now here are my overall thoughts:
These are 3ply mesh heads that have a decently heavy feel to them. I’ve got alot of different types of mesh heads here, this Real Feel set of heads is unique because it blends together a lot of my favorite aspects of different mesh heads I have into one package. These mesh heads don’t have much light leakage at all, so you don’t see the guts on your electronic drums. This is great for the acoustic/electronic setups where you’re going for that natural look. Really one of the only downsides of these mesh heads is that the logo on my set of mesh heads is slightly sloppy, the lines are kinda blurry as apposed to logos on most other mesh heads. This could just be with MY particular mesh heads though, so take it with a grain of salt. As far as acoustic noise goes, these seem to be just ever so slightly louder than regular 2ply mesh heads, it’s a solid middle ground between the pro heads and the other cheap drum head lines they make. I’ll do a rundown later on in the video.
Now about the feel of the mesh heads, they are great. They feel heavier than 2ply mesh heads, less bounce. That’s the one common criticism of mesh drumsets, they are “trampolines” with these mesh heads that’s not the case. Not all 3ply mesh heads are created equal. I’ve tried many different types, ZED 3ply, Jobeky 3ply, Billy Blast 3ply, and Roland 3ply. Sometimes they are really bouncy and there’s no real advantage having that third ply. These Drumtec Real-Feel heads are a cut above nearly all of those.
These Real Feel heads are some of the best mesh heads money can buy. They feel good, low bounce, and they are still pretty quiet. The only downside is that they are kinda pricey. But if you want the best, these are worth considering. I still prefer the Drumtec Pro heads over these because they are the most realistic feeling mesh heads in the world, but the price you pay is how loud they are. The Real Feel line is Drumtec’s compromise between the perfect feel of the Pro Line, and the low volume of the Design series 2ply line. Really solid drum heads.

Great review. I have one on my snare. It is tuned bone hard and positional sensing works great. I would say even the 2 ply drum etc head is better than the Roland Mesh head. The material is not as stretchy. Thanks for linking my experiment:D
Thanks Vdrum Tips!
I used a spare Drumtec Real Feel 3 ply on my acoustic 14in floor tom and Drumtec Design series 2 ply on the rack tom with 2box triggers - for a low volume practice set up. Perhaps because of the relatively low tension I applied to the floor tome (to try and keep it feeling similar to a real acoustic head) I found that the triggering was not clean - the rattling effect of the Real Feel you described (which might be better on a snare?) seemed to cause mistriggers. I changed the floor tom to a Drumtec Design series 2ply and it worked much better - much cleaner triggering.
Great review Justin. I have 10 of these heads on my kit, I’ve tried many other heads and these are by far the best. Noise, feel, and durability. They out last the Jobeky 3 ply by a long shot. Also for shipping from Germany, they come pretty quick. They are a great company to work with. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Sam, I agree, these are some of the best heads you can buy for any amount of money. Really well rounded. The only ones I like more are the Drumtec Pro series, but they are very loud so they don't work for everybody.
@@65Drums I agree, The pros are awesome. I wish they came in white though.
I just changed over my heads on my TD-25KV to these, I absolutely love them, great feel, more authentic feeling than the Roland mesh heads, I also feel like they trigger better than the Roland heads, great video Justin!!!
Best heads on the market
Also Justin, either you didn't adress this in the video or I missed it, do you prefer the Pro head over the Real Feel head?
Would love to know as well. The white looks pretty dope, but the black might be better? It's cheaper / one-play... odd how it might be the better mesh head!
btw, I just converted my acoustic kit to an electric one because I live in a tiny aprtment, if you have too much noise coming from mesh heads, just fill the drum with old tshirts or dense pillows, my 14x6.5 inch steel snare is now disturbingly quiet.
Dude, just found your channel. Thanks for putting out all the info you do! Subbed.
Just got a chance to try the new Duallist D4 kick drum pedal. I love it because it allows you to do hi hat syncopation with double bass. It really spiced up my playing and opened new doors of creativity in my playing. 29 years of playing, this new toy was just what I needed. Love to here what you think. Cheating or just innovation to a new level.
I just received mine and I think they took your feedback into consideration because the print on the heads were crisp, also they shipped fast, I’m in Texas and they arrived within a week!
I also tried lots of different mesh heads. The Real Feel mesh heads are the best I've ever played. Quiet, most realistic and you can't see through, that's also a big plus for me.
Better than Evans SoundOff?
After a few months of the 22 inch in the kick I can say that I still don’t like the rebound of these. Maybe because I bury the beater but I still can’t get used to the “bounciness.” Gonna try the pros instead
2:15 , I'm in love with your beautiful kit!
I'm pretty happy with it :)
I replaced my snare head with a Real Feel head on my Strike Pro kit and I’d recommend them. Pricey, but worth it, they feel substantially better.
I also use these heads on my DrumTec Pro Shells. I absolutely agree with you. The feeling is perfect and way more realistic. It is getting more realistic the larger the sizes of the shells are.
Great Video Justin!
Can you compare or let us know what you think about the REAL FEEL compared to your favorite Black Drum Tec Mesh Head. I have a REAL FEEL that came with my 14' Pro Snare that I bought from Drum Tec and I love it, but I'm interested in the Black Drum Tec Mesh Head as well.
a great review, Justin. have a good week!
Great review! I saw that you broke out that new slider for one shot. How are you liking it? I 'm thinking of getting one.
Yeah I used it for 3 shots in total for this video, I love it. It’s a pain in the butt because of how long it is, and it uses 2 tripods. But the end result is worth it :)
Super video Justin 😀 I’ll definitely be getting myself some of these when I do my A2E conversion 👍
I use Real Feel on all my pads, except the kick. They're great and feel much closer to the real thing than do the Roland standard 2 plys. One thing: I had to turn up sensitivity on my module, especially on the snare. But that might be down to my tuning the snare (PD 125) quite high/hard. Worth the high price, imho.
What do you use on your kick? Been trying to find the most realistic-feeling low volume bass drum head
@@mjrupps did you found something? i have the same problem right now
Hi Justin. How are these compared to the Jobeky 3ply mesh heads? Worth upgrading? I live in a country next to Germany so shipping is not a (big) problem.
Daniël Skoffa Did you ever go to the Real Feel? I’m thinking of buying Jobeky drums. Maybe I will order the Real Feel heads
I have used the Real feel mesh heads for 3 weeks now. I cant compare to anything else since I havent been playing a lot of other Mesh heads. I can say that the Real Feel are very nice to play on and they trigger amazingly well :-)
Hey justin. Do you have resonant heads on your conversion kit? And if you do, are they mesh or mylar?
I'd love to hear what these mesh heads sound like with mylar reso heads as a quiet kit as opposed to something specifically used for triggering.
I have had a set of these for over a year. They are amazing... Showing zero ware at all. Expensive but worth the money if you want the real feel.
They rock
Thank you!! Have an amazing day, too! :)
How much would drum tec charge to ship a head to America? Maybe drum tec will consider setting up a distributor or retailer in the states?
The realfeel does provide a good feel, especially compared to most mesh heads. However, i prefer the drumtec pros-- it has the same good feel but sounds closer to a standard drum. Volume wise, it is louder than most meshes but still quieter than a standard drum
+1 for these mesh heads. I have a set and they are absolutely amazing.
Thanks for all your videos, super information. I am currently in the process of purchasing the drum-tec Jam BIG Rock with TD-17 (black sparkle finish) and was hoping you could get a hold of these drums for a review before I finalize the purchase. Not much out there, just the Drum-Tec videos. Maybe Drum-Tec vs. Jobeky kits. Thanks again.
There is no possible way of him getting hold of those drums since he is the US, miles from Germany. As for the versus Drum Tec kits will trigger better than Jobeky.
I bought exactly the same kit, amazing!
I have 4 of these, although their shipping to where I live is $30 theyre the closest heads to acoustic feel
Hello Justin, Thanks for all your very useful videos. I just wonder if you talk about the Design serie or the Real Feel serie in this video, it seems a little bit confused to me. I wonder which one of those would be the best option to convert my acoustic snare with the Roland RT-30HR trigger in combination with the Roland TD-15 Module. May be the Roland Powerply head is a good option too. Thanks for your time, I wish you a happy Christmas !
I have alesis nitro mesh. Is it worth to change the mesh of the snare pad with this one?
Love my real feel 14 inch snare. Will be upgrading my toms when the old roland heads wear out too. The roland 2 ply 14 inch has some double triggering that I don’t get with the real feel.
Click "SHOW MORE" under the video. It will answer a lot of your questions.
Amazing camera work!
i have the same shirt...
that has nothing to do with the video but i felt the need to point it out.
It's important information :)
Have you ever played the 682 drums pro + heads with “real hit”? Their description sounds very much like the Drum Tec Real Feel heads, but they’re significantly less expensive. I haven’t been able to find any reviews of the 682 heads yet.
hey Justin - great video and great drumming. One question - which do you like better between the drum-tec design series and the roland power ply? Both are expensive. Thanks!
I have both of those, I'm going to be reviewing them eventually. But I can't give you an answer yet because I haven't put the Design series on my shells yet.
Ok thanks!
Buying them. Thanks for the review. BTW really like that high Tom sample. What's it called?
It's a Gretch high tom from Superior Drummer 3 core library
Awesome, Justin 💪🏼💪🏼
Hey Justin, first i'd like to thank you for making these helpful videos.
I have a question i'm hoping you can help me with, long story short.. our music school is moving to another building and the drums are too loud to teach during the regular business hours.
So I was looking in at a Zildjian L80's and Remo sound stroke set but and the cymbals were reasonable but the Remo heads are too quit to teach on according to our drum teachers so what i am basically asking is :" is there a half way solution in the mesh head world?
Let's say if the sound strokes are -80% volume we would have to have something like -50% to keep it fun enough for our students to play but silent enough so people in the new building can't complain.
My budget is about 800-1000 euros for converting 2, 5piece drumkits so i really hope you can shed some light on the situation concerning if there are, and if so which, skins would be suitable.
Hope you can help, best wishes, Frans.
If you're looking for loud mesh heads then the Drumtec Pro heads or the GoEdrum mesh heads are the closest thing to Zildjian L80s. If you just want a quick way to turn acoustic drums electronic and switch back and forth, NFuzd makes a decent product for that
@@65Drums Thank you very much! I'll look into those Drumtec heads, that's basically what i want.... the loudest, most "regular" sounding mesh heads available.
We don't use electronic (yet) as some drum teachers are a little reluctant towards using them but i feel like that is the future for our situation.
Thanks for this I was looking for a good review of the heads
Hey Justin, How do these and the pro series compare with the goedrum mesh head? I have tried many heads and like the goedrum the best. I still need to try drumtec but cost has put me off.
When you filmed the noise of the Pro Series Mesh Heads where you can see Zoe where did you played? Was it in a room next door or on floor above or downstairs?
My drums are in my basement. Zoe was sitting in the hallway the floor above.
@@65Drums thank you! This helps a lot! Keep on the great work!
is there any alternative just as good here in USA?
Hey Justin where does the go edrum ones fall in the list you mentioned before the drum Tec pro reminded you of the go edrum ones
Great review
Does anyone know what the black belt ones are all about? Are they just the same as the white and black versions?
I just finished a conversion on my old Ludwig kit to electronic kit using Prism three ply mesh heads. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on those.
welcome to edrums where hihats are bigger than most crashes how can we help? but seriously the atv hihat looks really out of place with the other cymbals so i have to ask do you see yourself going full atv for cymbals in future?
Hello, is the real feel mesh headsd works fine on Roland pads ? Like PDA100L and PDA120L for exemple
Why does DrumTec recommend the 3 ply for all drum but only 3 ply on the bass drum?
How do these compare to the Billy Blast Heads? I have a lot of double triggering and wondering if the real feel heads will help with that
Any 2 or 3ply head will trigger better than 1ply heads. After that, it's all about taking the time to dial in the trigger settings. Some modules are better than others. Billy blast isn't my favorite because it's really bouncy, and they snag easily, at least my version is.
Hey where did you learn that Drum rudiment when demoing the kit the first time? You don't live in Taylorsville do you?
My drum teacher taught it to me. It’s just a paradidle :)
How do these feel compared Yamaha silicone heads in terms of being close to acoustic heads?
Thanks for the great bids by the way!
This is much closer feeling. Silicon wasn't designed to feel like acoustic heads, the designers actually mentioned that they set out just to make something that generally felt good to play on instead.
@@65Drums cheers, I appreciate your reply, that's good to know!
nice video justin
I might get these do make it more realistic
Good video! Thank u
Hey Justin
Quick question, do these mesh heads (and other drum tec mesh heads) come already with triggering built with them. Also if you buy them, will they already come with the cables you need to connect them to a module?
Razorpine Razorpine No it's just the mesh head. Triggers and cabling are sold separately and are available from various sources including this one. Watch Justin's video called - Complete guide: How to convert your acoustic kit into electronic
habanerat Alright sounds good, thanks for the reply!
is that new hi-hats i see?
So are any of these a worthwhile upgrade from Strike heads? Big difference? Small difference?
Played the strike. Huge difference.
Wait, are you using tennis balls for your kick drum beater? How do they felt?
I'm making a dedicated video about them :)
also forgot to ask, a while back i converted an old acoustic floor tom into a kick for a travel kit ,using a pearl jungle kick converter, so iam looking for a way to add it to my e-set. However iam a noob when it to comes to conversions but iam interested in the rt30 trigger, but floor tom hoops are smaller than actual kick drum hoops ,obviously, what type of rt30 should i get?
The RT30h should be fine :)
Thanks!
So are you going to put the pros back on or leave the real feels on??
I have to switch to the Drumtec Design series so I can review them :)
Is the Roland Power Ply head better than the stock mesh heads that come on the PD-100s?
It's the same thing, just re-branded
omg that doggo
what do you think of the Jam kit?
Haven't tried it yet. Drumtec is based in Germany, very difficult to play one of their drumsets without literally flying out to Germany
i love your videos but i like your dog more
-all your viewers
Produce like a pro
Nothing to add from my side, I‘d sign your conclusions here. At least for the snare, they are the best to buy.
What’s your favorite tom and kick heads?
65 Drums Well, I‘d take the real feel as well, but for anyone on a budget, you don’t need them. Unfortunately, I already had bought a full set of Billy Blast 3-ply heads & paid A LOT for shipping and taxes 😒 - but back in that time, drum-tec hadn’t released the real feel series yet.

Lol oh I almost forgot, Great video as always justin!
Do you have all ATV cymbals?
Just one, the hihat
Billy blast 3 ply are killer
But you pay for it
