This is hands down, one of the best DIY videos I have seen. Love the illustrations on the video along with the list of parts at each step. I have been looking for a video to install a winch on the 10th anniversary bumper for a long time! Well done brother!
Bro I really can’t thank you enough for these videos. I recently installed the winch and stinger on my Jeep. The filler plates are next. Your instructions and added graphics are great. This is what a DIY video is suppose to look like
That means the world to me! Lots of effort goes into these videos and am really happy to hear they are of help! Thanks for watching and enjoy the new jeep mods!
Amazing instructions. Has to be one of the best DIY videos I have ever seen. Great job, great detail and those illustrations. This should be called the art of installing a winch on Hard Rock Anniversary Bumper!!
Outstanding! Great crystal clear on-screen graphics, and very detailed. Just purchased same winch and Max-3 plate so you'll be installing it alongside me next weekend.💪🏻seriously, great job. Keep them coming.
Just installed my X20 10k into a 2016 JKU Hard Rock. Your vid helped me make decision to do it. I went with Mopar Winch mount plate. I had to relocate the vacuum pump which took some grinding but the mounting plate didn’t require any cutting. Trade one no cut for another cut. It took me about 6 hours total. 2 trips to Home Depot, dinner, and allowing my son to help was worth it. Thanks for great vid
+Max VanNatter so glad this video was able to help you out! Yeah I was on the fence about going the same route as you, either way its a similar install. Thanks for watching!
Awesome Job! I love your red-lining graphics. ALL You Tube channels should do that! Nice job explaining things in detail. Excellent quality instructional vid!
Thank you so much. That was easily explained and perfectly executed. Thanks, you saved me a lot of time and made it an easy project to tackle. Once again, thank you.
Very nice tutorial. I like how you added the graphics in a clean and clear way. The only thing I recommend adding is that after you hand spool it in you take the Jeep out and run the line to a tree or something stationary. From there you really want to put the Jeep in neutral and spool the line in while someone watches to make sure its going in evenly. That will put the correct preload on the line so when you use it for the first time you don't stretch the line on the drum.
+Matthew Unknown thanks for watching! I definitely did go out and pretension the line. It's actually a pretty Important step and might do a video on that as well. Glad you liked the video! Please subscribe for more
The vieo was a HUGE help to me, thank you very much. I installed a Smittybilt X20 10-S on my 2018 JKUR Recon today using the Maximus-3 winch plate. I figured while I had the bumper off I might as well add the stinger hoop and a light bracket while I was at it. I watched this video about 3x over the past month while I was saving up for the last few parts of the upgrade, so the install went well. Thanks again for the great tutorial, you did a fantastic job.
Great video, about to install the same winch on the same Jeep. This bumper is factory on this Jeep, I didn't realize i needed a winch plate until watching this video. What are the odds of finding the exact install of ur choice. Kudos on ur editing, don't even have to guess on the bolt sizes. For ur first video I think u did a hell of a job!!! I hope my install goes as smooth!!
+Joe Robinson yeah I was surprised to find out the bumper is winch capable, not winch ready. Glad this video helped you out and good luck on the install! Subscribe for more videos! Thanks for watching
Great video! After watching it several times I have two questions 1) How did you tighten the two lower bumper bolts inside the frame... near the mounting plate? 2) Did you torque or hand-tighten the bolts that attach to the winch from underneath? Two of mine ended up cross-threaded. Thank you!
Great video! I install same winch and plate. I plan on trimming the bumper cover plates to fit on the front and rear sides of the winch. I will post a pic after the mod is complete.
Thank you for your time and effort. I am getting ready to mount my X2O and RockHard plate kit on my 2017 JKU Hard Rock this weekend and it's nice to have an idea what to expect. It would have been nice to see a couple pans of the final product after you finished up. :)
Thank you, sir. Happy to subscribe. The vid was both informative and well put together. I don't anticipate any issue. Have a few extra steps as I already have a Maximus Stinger and LED round lights installed. I will let you know how I do. Thanks again! Here is a before shot... i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac295/beachztt/HardRock/Mt%20Herman.jpg
Great video! I'm getting ready to do this install, watching your video gave me some helpful tricks. Definitely will save me some time. I also used your channel to install my Bushwacker fender flares! Good content man. Thanks!!!
Not sure if it was already mentioned but if you install this plate on a Rubicon Recon there is no need to cut the bumper or drill that hole. The exception is if you install a Zeon winch only the vacuum mount has to be cut.
I’ve got a recon too and I can NOT get that winch plate between those frame rails. How are y’all doing it? I did not remove the factory vacuum bracket... I’ve greased it, 2lb rubber mallet. Nothing...
im upset how jeep says winch ready, but its not. Im glad I saw your video. while im waiting on the plate to arrive im going to cut my bumper to help speed up this process.
Great video, loved your editing. I was looking at the black and white paper that came with the maximus-3 setup like wtf and this clears it all up! They need to pay you for this! :)
+Chris Anderson glad to have helped! Things are always a lot clearer after watching someone else pull through! Subscribe for some more videos, thanks for watching
If you putted the control box near the engine. You will have the chance to cover up the pumper from up , I’m I correct ? It will look like you don’t have winch installed at all
Very well done video. You did great! I have the Recon Edition, which has the same bumper, so this will help greatly from my spending excess time "figuring it out". Exactly what a DIY video is supposed to do..share tribal knowledge.
Awesome video. Loved all the little on screen edits with instructions. The only piece of advice I would have is audio. I know this video is from a little while ago, so you may have already created a better solution, but if I could suggest looking into getting a Zoom H1 hand a Rode Smart Lav (you'll need the conversion cable too) it will DRAMATICALLY improve your audio. Keep up the great work, and sweet Jeep.
+Robert Herring thanks for watching! Totally agree with the audio, it irks me everytime. Unfortunately my camera doesn't have an audio input (hoping to upgrade down the line) and I'd rather not try to sync audio from another device. I'll keep your solution in mind, a change needs to happen soon! Thanks again
+Allen's Offroad thanks! It's a pretty old camera without a mic hookup or bluetooth. I'll either upgrade or start recording audio separately (I'd rather avoid syncing in post). Thanks for watching!
Rubicon Unlimited You should consider the Rode Video Mic Pro +. It’s an amazing mic that plugs into the mic input of your camera, and turns on and off when you turn your camera on and off. I’m using it now, and it’s absolutely fantastic. I’m also now using the Zoom H6 Field Rrcorder. You can record up to 6 channels seperately at the same time with it. It accepts standard XLR input, as well as 1/4 inch input (like an electric guitar). Excellent choice for an off camera audio recorder.
+Robert Herring these are the exact two options I've been looking at. I prefer the rode, but my camera doesn't have a mic input, which means I need a new camera... and upgrade is imminent! Thanks robert!
Great tutorial! It was very helpful. Especially since that is the exact same winch and bumper I am about to work on. Thanks for putting the time in on getting this done. Oh, and thanks for keeping the language G.. I've seen some tutorials where people use harsh language when things don't go as planned.
+Andy Grace glad this gave you some insight on the task! Haha trust me, words were thrown around at times during this install. Plan to keep everything safe for the whole family ;)
great video. presentation, demonstration, and editing all great. I installed the exact with on my Hard rock a couple months ago. I pretty much followed your scrip, but I think I could have saved at least an hour if I had seen your video first :) keep them coming. one suggestion... home depot Rigid brand impact driver, decent price, and powerful. all your ratcheting was killing me. 😎
Great video, from watching and looking at mine it I realized that I have a factory bumper that will except the winch as well on my 2017 anniversary edition. Do you happen to know which warn winch would fit in our bumper?
I imagine most would, definitely have seen the zoom series installed in it. Poke around in the forums, I'm sure you'll find a few others. Thanks for watching
Good video. I have a Warn I'm installing sometime this week on my 2014 Rubicon X so this is helpful even if a bit different. From what I've read I'll have to relocate my vacuum pump.
I got the exact same setup as you. The smitty solenoid pack sits only a hair from the grille. It looks shitty and prevents the grille from being removed. Have you thought about relocating the pack somewhere inside the engine bay? and putting the winch top plate back on minus a cut where the spool lever is? Im considering it
Another trick is to trim off the clips at the bottom of the grill, just the few at are behind the solenoid. That way it will slide right out after you unclip the others
Hey there, sorry but I'm gonna say more of the same: GREAT video and channel! I really enjoyed watching, and the effort you put in is appreciated, man! I have same winch, did you torque WINCH BOLTS to anything special, or just balls tight by hand? Thanks!
Do you think there was room anywhere to mount the silonoid box behind the grill so you could mount a flat plate ontop of the winch/bumper for a seamless look? Do you think there would have been enough room to mount a plate on top of the winch or did the winch itself protrude past the top of the bumper? Great video by the way.
+Greg McRae yeah I would say that it could be possible but I don't know if I would recommended it by a functionality standpoint. I would be very difficult to monitor the winch spool with it completely enclosed. Thanks for watching, hope this video helped out¡ subscribe for more videos!
Agree with everybody on here, this is a great video! I have the EXACT same setup as you illustrate, however I am having difficulty tapping the plate into position with a rubber mallet like you stated. The plate appears as if it's a 1/8" too wide. Was this the same case for you? How did you get it in place without doing any cutting? I would like to avoid cutting if at all possible. Hope to hear back from you and hear your wisdom. Thanks!
It was definitely a tight fit that needed a bit of persuasion. I'm guessing that the paint on these plates is adding a bit of variation to everyone's experience.
Nice instructional video. Was that paint an exact match? Can you use it for touch ups? If so, what paint did you buy? I can't find any info on color matching for the 10A bumpers.
+OC Run nope just some black rustoleum. In this case it was covered up by the fairlead bracket and wouldn't be in sight, so I wasnt worried! I'll let you know if I ever test out others.
Will all of these steps work for the backcountry diction steal bumper? It’s not quite the same but it is a “winch capable bumper” with the delete plate on top and the cable slot.
Great video - very much appreciated! Made the install much easier. One question-did you do anything with the eight screw holes from the winch delete plate that was removed?
Glad the video helped! Eventually the holes were utilized for the stinger and light mount that I added on. I've got a video for those install as well if you're interested. Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any other questions 👍
Where did you purchase the metal cutting 44mm. hole saw and arbor? One more thing, are there plates to be reinserted on both the outboard and inboard bumper studs?
Hole saw and arbour are typically available at your local hardware store. And yes don't forget the plates! Thanks for watching and let me know how the install goes 👍
I installed the same winch and plate on my 75th anniversary unlimited Jeep. I had to cut the vacuum pump bracket to make room for the width of the plate. Bulldog may have changed the dimensions since your video. Their instructions tell you to remove the vacuum pump bracket for clearance, but I was able to keep enough of the bracket and mounted the vacuum pump on the modified bracket. Great video!
I don't believe so, this is the design of the application. It might be achievable with spacers, but more sure what's involved with that. Thanks for watching!
So I have the same bumper and winch and have a question. The is a long plastic piece that is under the grill that is removed. I was wondering if there was an aftermarket piece to buy that will cover that back up?
Yes sir there is a maximus-3 filler plate you can pick up. I have an install video on this ruclips.net/video/6hHfRs_dIro/видео.html Let me know if you have any more questions 👍
You're supposed to only spool the first 6-10 wraps at hand tight. After that it should have at least 500Lbs tension(ie. the weight of the jeep in neutral pulling from a tree, etc..)
GREAT VIDEO!!!! unfortunately bad winch plate Bulldog Winch plate arrived with 1 small bolt , one small nut and 1 washer and no instructions or part list. figuring I would buy necessary hardware I spent two hours trying to beat the winch plate between the frame rails. NO LUCK! Winch plate is too wide to fit between the frame rails even after loosing all the powdercoat and frame paint I AM RETURNING THE WINCH PLATE! AND WILL TRY ANOTHE BRAND!! any ideas or suggestions?
Ahh sorry to hear that! Give maximus-3 a try, they have lots of products made specifically for these bumpers. If I remember correctly they also have a winch plate. Let's me know how it goes. Thanks for watching
Looking at a recon right now. I am not so interested in the red accents i.e. red seat belts or hood sticker but the updated and beefier front d44 axle, front bumper and hood are very interesting.
Wanted to center the winch in this case. Arguably doesn't ruin the bumper because the opening is covered by the fairlead. Plus, you can always put the cap back on if you dont want a winch anymore
Ok, I have watched this video a few times already trying to figure how in the hell you got that plate in there I got a 2014 RUBICON X which is the same as the 2015 hard rock and the vacuum canister is mounted the same way with what it looks like the same double stupid bracket on there I ordered the same winch plate 20208 but it doesn’t fit 😡, the vacuum canister welded plate is not letting it slide in It looks like I’m gonna have to cut that plate off which I don’t like cutting shit in my Jeep if not go with a different bumper set up
Hey, I didn't need to cut anything to do this, but I did help the plate in with a rubber mallet. Sometimes the powder coat can make things a bit tight, but it should fit! Let me know how things pan out, good luck!
Rubicon Unlimited , bit I had to cut that factory bracket, I guess the person or robot that welded that plate on my Jeep was mad at the time. It was the only way mine would fit. If I could share pictures here I would show you. Your video is very good by the way.
Glad you got the job done! Maybe send me a picture on Instagram - @rubiconunlimited would love to see how this went together for you. Would be good information in case someone else experiences the same thing
Video was good, but I would spent more time finding a better route for the power cable. You can remove the airbox and channel the cable that way and actually gain a little slack. Plus, you won't have a cable running over the top of stuff.
Help.....I can’t tighten the 2 inner bottom bolts (to secure the bumper back on ). wrenches won’t fit with deep socket on once winch is in place .... is there a special wrench I can buy to reach these 2 bolts ? Same bumper, same winch, same mount plate ( Maximus brand looks identical ) ....
Rubicon Unlimited First, Thank you sooooo much for the reply! Thank you so much for a great ‘how to’ video, it was soooo much help. Just so you know, you have the best winch to 10A bumper installation video out there, still to this day.... I can reach it fine from top but space is to tight to fit ratchet and socket in the space, extension would be worse. (Wish I could post pics) if I happen to get it squoze ( it’s a Jen word :)) in there I have no way to move / wrench on it ....I may have to stop at a mechanic shop and ask them, maybe I need a special wrench to reach it, idk.... thank you again !
No problem at all, thanks for the kind words! Figured since I was doing the install, it wouldn't hurt to film. I tend to look for these things before an install and couldnt find anything, glad it's helping others with the same project! It's been a while since I did the install so I can't fully remember what tool I used in this instance, but maybe a swivel could do the trick. Let me know what works!

not sure what happen but you were supposed to install on my rubicon, memo got lost lol great video.
Haha we should set something up! Thanks for watching ! 👍
What grille inserts are you using? They look like they wouldn't block airflow, unlike the usual ones with round holes.
Hey! They are from drake off-road. You can find them here amzn.to/3bIkeIQ
Alrighty. Well thank you for the quick reply.
Not familiar with that bumper so I can't advise. Hopefully this video will give you some tips with the install
Nice video bro! I was wondering if this winch would work in my 10th Anniversary Rubicon bumper, and now I know that it will. Thanks.
Yup, you're good to go. Thanks for watching and let me know if you need any help with the install
Awesome - exactly what I was looking for.
Nice work!
Thanks! Enjoy the install
Great video buddy. I’m going to help a friend do this install soon and this is just what I needed 🤘🤘🤘
Glad to help out! Have fun with the install 🤠
Once your cut the bumper slot did you get a wider fairlead slot or hook plate
Great job!!!👍
Great video! How has the Bulldog plate held up?
Still going strong! Used the winch on a rig this past October and all was good
Looks like the same bumper on my 75th Anniversary Edition. I've done 2.5" lift and 33" x 12.5" tires, winch is next.
Nice! Yeah should be the same for the 75th anniversary edition
Great to know! Thanks for the information, hope it's helpful for some
Great Video. Quick question. Is there anyway to have the winch sit higher in the bumper? I see that the Rubicon bumper completely swallows the winch.
I don't believe so, this is the design of the application. It might be achievable with spacers, but more sure what's involved with that. Thanks for watching!
Really appreciate this! This is going to help a lot
+IMDeus glad you found it useful! Let me know how the install goes
+IMDeus thanks for watching
Great job! Very well done.
Thanks!!
So I have the same bumper and winch and have a question. The is a long plastic piece that is under the grill that is removed. I was wondering if there was an aftermarket piece to buy that will cover that back up?
Yes sir there is a maximus-3 filler plate you can pick up. I have an install video on this

Let me know if you have any more questions 👍
Thanks a ton I had found it after your post. Thanks ill check out the vid
Glad to hear it! Enjoy
I have a 2014 JKU with 10th Anniversary bumper. Do I need to buy a winch mount kit in order to install a winch?
Can you use a jig with metal cutting blade instead of a grinder?
Of course!
You did an excellent job with editing this video. I only wish my Jeep MW3 was as easy as yours. Off to 4Wheelparts to have it installed.
+Mr. Beepers thanks for watching! Hope you can subscribe for more reviews and installs
You're supposed to only spool the first 6-10 wraps at hand tight. After that it should have at least 500Lbs tension(ie. the weight of the jeep in neutral pulling from a tree, etc..)
+NameYourChannel yup, did that a couple days after! Thanks for watching
You did a fine job! Great tutorial!!!
+Frank Sampognaro glad you liked it! Subscribe for future videos
Well done, easy to follow

Will this 2015 rubicon hard rock bumper fit in a 2015 sport jk-4 door?
I don't see why it wouldn't.
May I know where to purchase one just like the one you have?
This one came from the factory installed on my jeep.
I see, thank you very much for your help.
@@mcurielcatipay9535 no problem
why cut the bumper all 6 holes line up with the factory holes???
Does the steel bumper fit a JL wrangler?
What do you think of the Smittybilt winch 1 year in?
Still humming along like day 1! So far so good
GREAT VIDEO!!!!
unfortunately bad winch plate
Bulldog Winch plate arrived with 1 small bolt , one small nut and 1 washer and no instructions or part list.
figuring I would buy necessary hardware I spent two hours trying to beat the winch plate between the frame rails.
Great video. Thanks for making it.
Thanks for watching!
Killer fuckin edit! Currently just looking at a jeep and came across your vid.
+BajaMedic thanks for checking it out! Hoping to get a hard rock, recon, or anniversary edition?
Looking at a recon right now. I am not so interested in the red accents i.e. red seat belts or hood sticker but the updated and beefier front d44 axle, front bumper and hood are very interesting.
+BajaMedic yeah that's how I feel about it too, looks pretty tempting!
Great job, enjoyed, Thank You!
Thanks Dennis!
How has the plate and winch held up?
Everything is still great! No issues after all these years
why did yo cut the bumper..? Maximus-3 kit there's no cutting at all.. Kinda permanently ruins the bumper cutting it doesn't it?
Wanted to center the winch in this case. Arguably doesn't ruin the bumper because the opening is covered by the fairlead. Plus, you can always put the cap back on if you dont want a winch anymore
Thanks for the video 👌🏼 is this the bumper the jeep came with ?
+Arely Saenz no problem! Yes it is. This bumper comes with the hard rock edition, recon, and anniversary models.
Ok, I have watched this video a few times already trying to figure how in the hell you got that plate in there
I got a 2014 RUBICON X which is the same as the 2015 hard rock and the vacuum canister is mounted the same way with what it looks like the same double stupid bracket on there
I ordered the same winch plate 20208 but it doesn’t fit 😡, the vacuum canister welded plate is not letting it slide in
It looks like I’m gonna have to cut that plate off which I don’t like cutting shit in my Jeep if not go with a different bumper set up
Hey, I didn't need to cut anything to do this, but I did help the plate in with a rubber mallet.
Great video!
Video was good, but I would spent more time finding a better route for the power cable. You can remove the airbox and channel the cable that way and actually gain a little slack. Plus, you won't have a cable running over the top of stuff.
So true! It's been a bit of a pain in hind sight, will be changing that route
@@RubiconUnlimited btw, used the video, did the install. Mine SUCKED getting the plate in there but it is done and looks great!
@@keathflohr2480 yeah been hearing mixed reviews with fitment. I feel like the powdercoat might be a variable here. Glad you got it in!
Might want to try and extension to help you get in there.
Good job
Thanks!!
fairlead plate is upsidedown
Haha you're kidding!? Still works though
What do you think of this winch now that you've had it a while? Looking at this or a Superwinch Tiger Shark. Thanks
It's been awesome, tons of people run them without any issue 👍
@@RubiconUnlimited Thanks a Million for the response!
Anytime! Thanks for watching 👍
Nice job, thanks....
+Big Jeep no problem, thanks for watching!
Great job.
Thanks!
Great Video! Subbed...
Thanks for your support!
Yes you didn’t install a fuse on it.
4-5 hours?!?!?
It's quite a bit of work, just giving everyone a heads up and setting expectation!
Its not a car its a jeep lol.
