I mean I also love kids, they are humans that have been the closest to our creator. I visit Montana every year a small town called Anocanda and it was and is a minor town. They are mostly Caucasian but they have little shops and cafes on their small strip in down town that serve pastes... They call them pasties (they are exactly these) and are very proud of the tradition. I love them and have them for breakfast covered in gravy several times while I am there and usually keep a couple in the motel fridge for quick lunch between speaking engagements. Can't wait to try making these for myself. Tyvm💋💋💋

When I was growing up, my Mom would cook our favorite meal for our birthdays. I always wanted these! My Mom called them Sopapilla's and instead of baking, she fried them in oil. Every time I make these for someone who's never had them....., they fall instantly in love. By the way, my Mother's family is from Spain, so maybe that's why it's a different name. I've always called these Sopapilla's and if you put fruit inside, they become empanada's. By any name, they are still my favorite. I get lazy sometimes and get frozen dough for rolls and use that instead. I can just make a couple at a time that way. ;)

It is said in Cornwall UK , that some minors came over to Mexico to mine and brought the idear for Cornish pasties with them . Love these I will try them .
Friend, I could hardly contain myself. I love your version of a pasty. I'm from the Upper Peninsula (U.P. or the people of the area are called Yoopers) of Michigan and Pastys are standard fair up there. The miners wives made them and wrapped them up for their husbands. They tucked them in their pants and it kept them warm in those cold mines until lunch time. They didn't have a way to wash up before eating and since they were lead mines they ate everything but where the ends were pinched together that's what their hands held onto and they got thrown away uneaten. Thats how they avoided lead poisoning. The dough was made exactly like yours except all lard, and they are filled with steak, or chicken, pork, turkey, venison, and potato, rutabaga (or turnip) onion also we placed little pieces of beef suet on top of the filling before you fold the crust over. It melts down into the veggies. Artery clogging deliciousness. You cook them at 425 for 15 minutes and 350 for 45 minutes remembering vent the top. As a born Yooper I'm dying to try your version. We eat them with Ketchup and gravy when I was a kid was frowned upon. Basically if you asked for gravy they knew you were the outsider. We had 5 girls and one boy in the family and when we started bringing our men home I recall when my now husband asked if there was any gravy for his I swear the air sucked out of the house. Hahaha he was the first of many. Sigh. I will be making your version. I love it and I would do cilantro as well . Thanks ever so much for sharing.

My mom made these for a spring tonic.but she put a half of box black pepper in the meat and papas. You would think it will not be good, but I love them. She would have been a 100 yrs old this year. You need to add flour to your rolling pin so it will not stick.

Nicaragua, we make the filling with chicken, mixed vegetables, ketchup, mustard, tomato sauce, olives w pimiento & cocktail onions. Put them in the Goya pastry wraps (because no time to make a dough) & fry them in oil. After, they’re dusted with sugar and ate with a side of gallo pinto & fried cheese. Family favorite home made meals ♥️ I have never had them with ground beef. Interesting 🤔
