Alltrails Pro is definitely worth the price since you can download the maps offline. I LOVED Mist Falls such a beautiful hike. It's a good thing you didn't have those brick fire starters because you aren't supposed to use them to lite a fire you plan to cook over. You can make your own safe starter by packing a bunch of dried pine needles into an empty TP roll.
There is a really good book “The Last Season” by Eric Blehm which tells the real life story of a park ranger who went missing in Kings Canyon. This book stayed with me for a long time, felt like I knew him, so well written.
