The fact that you can recycle and reuse these without needing to refuel the machines to produce new ones. And on top of that, you eliminate plastic shows we need to go back to these bottle types in the future.
Wow, another great episode! I had no idea that the groves were to stop the marble from clogging the flow of the contents, thank you so much! Also lovely blue marble codd bottle, very rare to have a coloured marble!
Got 2 of these in good condition at a car boot sale in Reading, England. My dad said that in the 60s and 70s it was popular for kids to go to the old dumps looking for bottles.
I thought you were going to say the kids went looking for these bottles to get the marbles out. Im glad you didnt! These are some of the neatest bottles ive ever seen. I just love the creativity!
Definitely! Bottle collecting was really huge back then. There was a local dump near Marlborough , Wiltshire UK that was dug out by strong men...they were after only the interesting stuff...But I have a pot lid from those days still..''Areca nut tooth paste''. The men would dig, clean off the ashes and mud and either keep or chuck the bottle to waiting kids.. Codds and good stone ginger beers were the rarest. Ink bottles and medicine bottles the commonest. I love the {Common} 'Ellimans Royal Embrocation for horses' bottle in a lovely pale aqua.
I did not realize we had them here in the states! I’ve seen lots of videos from the UK where they find them mud larking. I would love to find one here in the states!
Just got over here from Aqua Chigger's channel where you were mentioned. Great video - I have subscribed. Have you done one yet on ballast bottles - thick rounded bottoms - filled with soda and used as ballast in sailing ships coming form England? They look like Torpedo bottles but I think they may be two different things.
Aww thanks. This was one of my really early ones, since, then i've re-subscribed to ancestry.com and newspapers.com, which gives me so much more information than what i was doing back then.
And no, i havent done ballast bottles yet. I can look into it, although my subscriptions dont allow me to do research out of the states, and i dont want to pay extra --yet.
Superb video 🏆👍🏻❤️ I wonder if @northernmudlarks have seen this... 😊 We pronounce Malvern with a double LL sound 🔊. As I'm Mall-vern. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. All the best Heidi
We have a Coca Cola Codd Bottle with the early 1900's Diamond Shaped Label. How long did Coca Cola use them and are they a rare find with the label still in tact? I'm wondering how much it's worth. Thanks for the video and thanks for any info you can provide.
Honestly i wasnt aware that coca cola used a codd bottle. I did a few quick searches online, and im not finding anything. So im sorry, but i dont have enough information to help with that. :(
@@biglucious73 i would imagine it depends on which one you have. Sometimes there are rare variants. But i think as a whole, they are worth between $20-50. At least thats prices i have seen for them. I would check ebay to see if your bottle is listed, and the price its going for to give you an idea.
An Indian video shows perfectly how these are filled...They have to be inverted while being filled.. You cannot ''Re seal'' the bottle by shaking it, however. Much as we cannot re-seal ring pulls. Codd bottles are used today in India and elsewhere...I'd love to have a drink from one.
@@antiquebottlestories I was amazed at the waste!..Must be a very sticky job, unless just filling the bottles with water. Wonder if 19th Cent factories were the same? Probably .
@@antiquebottlestories You can find them at the world/culture section of a grocery store. You can also find them in places where they sell merch related to anime/manga and Japanese stuff.

I just drank my first soda out of a Codd bottle! Ramuné Original
