Hello Esqueleto, Big thanks for your explanation, it will help me a lot because I want to do the same thing in my 2002 X-Trail. I have only one question: when you switched from your stock radio to this one, the steering wheel controls still works?
Hello. I have an issue. Mine is exactly like yours so I have cut and joined all the cables correctly onto the adapter to go into the screen. However when I turn the car one there seems to be no power getting to the screen. It just won’t turn on. I have checked the fuses and they are good. Also the link you sent for the plug adapter is no longer available. Could you resend the link? Can you help please?? Thanks
Great video thanks! 1) Are you able to use steering wheel controls with this setup? e.g. volume up/down 2) Presumably this would work just as well with CarPlay?
thanks! 1) yes this unit is setup for steering wheel controls. My xtrail actually does not have any steering wheel controls. Depending on your car, most of these units have plug and play harnesses that allow for steering wheel controls to work without any added harnesses. 2) I have not tried carplay however I am sure it would. Now that you mention it, I will try it as well as android auto. Having said that I have android phones but do have a ipad so I may try that. 3) let me know the year, make and model of your car as well as a pic of your oem radio and I can see what units will work for you. chucho_301@hotmail.com

Very helpfull video and great work. Congrats!!! I do have a problem though with the harnesses. I have a similar (almost the same) Double Din radio. The link you have for the harness shows a part with 2 endings (red, brown) while my new station has one ending like yours on the video. I can't find one new already fixed with one ending? Do i have to cut and glue the wires manually? Thanks in advance....
Thanks! Wel, the link will show both ends of the connectors but you will only need the one side. In that case you would cut the red and brown connectors off and splice the wires to the new radio harness. Therefore, you will not need to cut the factory harness. You may be able to find a harness locally that does not have the added connectors. This was one that I found online for the purpose of showing what the connecors are needed.
Need help. It seems I already have a harness attached to my radio unit. It is a single power plug instead of the two ones you have. Now, I want to cut it off and hardwire it with the universal power plug I got with the new head unit. I am able to trace every color wire but the black wire is missing on the harness plug. I wonder if the electrician who did the modifications, used some other colored wire for the (-)ve. How do I find out? Nissan Xtrail 2005.
What radio did you get? If all you are missing is the ground wire, just attach a ring terminal to the ground wire and use a self tapping screw behind the radio metal frame. When I did mine I had to do that because the negative did not allow the unit to function properly.
@@esqu3l3to Thanks. It's a Ruancheng 7" universal head unit. I extended the wire and got it hooked on the metal body behind the unit. Every thing seems to be working fine now. Appreciate your help.
Correct, the unit comes with a few wiring harnesses. However, they may not fit your vehicle. Its best to check what you have and get one for it. Then use the universal harness for the radio to connect to that.
1) no the lights on the panel do not light up, which sucks 2) yes there is a screen brightness setting, you can access it by pulling down the screen. Unit also dims when you turn on your park/headlights on 3) I don't know of any updates. Having said that these units runs jusy fine with older android OS.
Where did you find the wires for (1) reversing switch or reverse light wire, (2) park light/tail light wire? These are the two mixing wires I can't find.
For this install I did not connect anything for a reverse camera. I am not sure of the location of those wires up front. Your best bet is to go to the rear panel and trace the reverse light wire.
GPS works good, not the beat but works. You can download offline maps directly to the unit and use them without issues. I recommend getting a unit with expandable memory because you will use up the memory quickly when updating maps and other apps you download
Do you have any advice for what to do in order to improve the radio reception on these X-Trails. I changed my head unit some time ago hoping that the reason was in my old one however, it seems to be the antenna.
I would first check to make sure your antenna is pushed all the way into the new radio, perhaps it cane loose after you put your dash back together. Also check on the roof where the antenna is located and move forward and back (mine does move) to see if a different location fixes the issue.
@@esqu3l3to It is fully pushed and tight. I believe it could just be old and probably there is some damage to the cable from the antenna to the radio. I'd like to change the antenna and any cables that go with it.
Didn't you run gps cable? Why not not show navigation. No one takes out OEM radio/CD to just replace with radio only. Its of interest to to tell model and features of new one also costs.
1) did you watch the video? I clearly show where I ran the GPS antenna at 4:18 to 8:06 2) I did not show all the features because that is not what the video is for; it's installation video not demo 3) Yes, a lot of people replace their stock head unit with a single din or double din but not always with GPS, everyone gets what they want and need. 4) links are in the description box to which you will get detailed information on the head unit and price.
Correct, I did not need to cut any wires from the oem harnesses. I just soldered all the wires from the new radio harness to the adapter harness made for the nissan.
@@esqu3l3to I purchased the ebay harness in your link if you look at the pictures what do you think the red and black connectors are om the end. Are they for putting stripped wires in for a clean finish. Or should I just cut them off and make my own connection even if thats the case!
You will have to remove the radio in order to access and unplug it from the radio. Then trace it up to the roof and remove/replace. I have never done it so I dont know how easy or hard it may be.
I believe so but most likely you will have to replacw the entire top dash and thats if anyone makes it. From what I have seen, all these xtrails are the same regardless of location.
@@esqu3l3to I'm facing this issue as well. It looks like the harness will need to be cut as it is slightly larger and it gets difficult to put back the panel. I used the ones from the older model and it has aligned with the stereo panel cutout, but it ain't closing off completely.

The connections are fairly simple, just as any radio install its easier to have the adapter harness(ses) to make it simpler to have all your wires connected. As for this specific radio the connectios for the gps there is only one which looks like the connection for your tv coax. All the other rca/video/usb etc are simply made by matching each port (not labelled) but can only go into one port.
