- Today we are canning Red Potatoes!!! I love my home canned potatoes. I have used them to make so many different recipes and they are great as fried potato hash. If you love the idea of having home canned potatoes in your pantry, Ready To Go, I hope you'll find this video helpful.
My potatoes of choice are the Yukon Gold, & the Red Potatoes.

• Let's Do This TOGETHER...
I just canned some more red potatoes because these potatoes are the truth. I'm canning some Yukon gold potatoes today but I forgot to add the dang bay leaves. I know it's still going to be good. Lord these potatoes smell so good right now. Until next time.
You ARE ON A ROLL🤣🤣

Can I use this same cooking time and method to make sweet potatoes? Thank you in advance 🤗
Fruit concentrate preparation
@Pink Salt cause she doesnt want the spices getting stuck between a potatoe and the jar but be freeflowing in the jar

I just love this woman she makes you feel like you can do anything. And her canning knowledge is tops!!!
She truthfully does make me feel like I can do whatever she does. Makes all the fear just disappear.
Yes, I do too! She's so sweet and pleasant, and very entertaining. And what a beautiful, powerful singing voice she has!!!😮☺👏👏👏👏👏🥰💗
She sure does! Love her! And I have learned so, so much in such a short time. Nobody that I have found explains things the way she does...completely.
Totally agree she rocks
@ Antoinette McKanna
As soon as this video started (10 mos after you posted- 2 years after video made it showed up in my recommended even though I have long been a subscriber, lol) I just wanted to post “I love you!” And your comment was first under the pinned. She is so loving and kind but firm. I am very glad she took this journey with us. ❤️🙏🏻
ETA: it was actually 1yr after you posted.
I love how she includes/explains the same basic rules over and over...because it helps to build confidence. At least it does for me. The more I hear these basic rules, the more it becomes entrenched in my brain.
This old man really appreciates your sage advice and helpful hints for preserving foods. Those of us with eyes to see; know that something terrible is coming and preservation of food is going to be so very important in the future for all families big and small.
Just made 7 quarts. In these times, so much is unknownwhen it comes to food supplies at the grocery stores. I just started pressure canning February 2020, at the age of 60.
I can't express, how much i appreciate all the RUclipsrs like yourself, that have taken the time to pave the way for us newbies, through instructional videos. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤
I just started making some videos too, in the hopes of helping someone.
Thank you for all you do!!!
I am new do you know what kind of pressure cooker she has and what size I'm 62 lol

There is nothing prettier than a pantry full of home canned food!
I started canning again. Done over 200 jars. Im feeling so good about it. My newest addiction.
You are helping a lot of people with these videos, especially in times like the ones we're in. Thank you for the constant uploads, I'm using this channel is my guide to being more self reliant. Much love from the A ✊🏿
Thank you! That's exactly what I'd hoped to do, be a help to somebody
@@HOMESTEADHEART Yes you are helping me alot. I am sharing with my friends. Don't change a thing. You make it look so easy that anyone can use a pressure caner.
So happy I found your channel
Yes...so am I
I love the way she breaks it down and make it so simple.
Very pretty colors in the jars. Glory to God for leading us to you. We need more compassionate and peaceful folks like you to teach us these basic skills that have been lost. Thank you!
Usually 20 minute videos feel so long, but because you explained in such awesome detail, I just ate up every word! And it went by so quick! Thank you soooo much! I know what I'm doing this weekend!!
I just found you, the other day. You are a great/natural teacher. Not everybody can teach. Thank you so much, for your efforts. I am learning so much.
They didnt teach any of this in home economics. Glad shes on here doing her thing. 👍 yes im a guy that took home ec. Glad i did too.
These videos remind me of my great grandmother. She died 3 years ago at the ripe old age of 103. She knew how to grow, preserve, and cook everything!
Y'all see how simple this is?
Yes because youve done such a great job at talking us through.
I am so glad that there are people out there to teach others the art of canning. Keep on teaching others. I have done this close to 10 years.
You are such an inspiration! I am a canner and I keep my pantry stocked...always. My extended family made fun of me and called me a hoarder for having a fully stocked pantry for only my husband and I. But when this pandemic hit I did not worry one bit because I was prepared. No one is laughing at me now!!! And this is not over. They are predicting another wave of this virus. Keep putting the word out how simple canning is. It takes time and energy but is so rewarding!!!
Yup same here n i had a good supply of toilet paper too!!!!! They seemed to think i should be their local free grocery store too when it hit !!!!! Nope. I warned them!!!!💞💞💞💞😸😸
I too always look ahead and literally my stock is from sales all yr- Some laugh but when pandemics come I donot worry
@@coloradopackratprepper LOL we almost ran out of TP! I made my husband buy one of those booty sprayers to hook onto the toilet though, so when the loonies buy all the Charmin next time we will be sitting pretty (and clean haha)
Prepare for a time such as this. Some friends from church came over one day and we have now been dubbed "The Food House"! It took a pandemic to get people to pay attention and realize they have to depend on themselves and not on the grocery stores. I was laughed at because I open so many jars each week, wash the jars and fill them again. My meat jars outnumber my vegetable jars now though 😔 Tip for new canners, grab a box of seals every time you go to the store. It is less of a hit to your wallet that way.
@@godlygirl7353 How do you can meats?
I am 64 years young and you've reinspired me! I gave up canning after my husband passed, gave everything away and now, I may just go buy another pressure cooker. Thank you.
Oh my gosh! The same with me. I'm 66 and my husband passed a few years back. I thought why bother there's only me. I also gave lot's of canning supplies and my jar's away. Now watching these canning and gardening video's by Homestead Heart (so glad I found her channel) I realized how much I miss it and who Care's if it's only me. Plus I have been learning great thing's from her videos.
Good luck...they are hard to come by right now.
Yes ladies. Do exactly that. You are important and will enjoy canning again. You can always invite a friend or give as gifts. Cook dinner for elderly who may not have the strength to do what you’re doing. Enjoy!👩🌾❤️
@@ritahopkins7213 Go for it! I would bet there are plenty of people would love a jar here or there for gifts! ❤
I’m a 61 year old single man and have Never canned anything before. For the last few months, I have been buying jars and lids whenever I can find them. Just Got some canning books and a set of canning tools. My new presto 23 quart pressure cooker arrived just this week. Hope to start canning very soon. Thank you 🙏 for your inspiring videos.
Absolutely thrilled with your videos!! I have been canning since I was six years old. So many people have been asking me to teach them how to garden and can. I love teaching but there is only one of me...teehee. I searched many, many RUclipsrs to find someone I could recommend to them. You are my first pick!! You are not only, sweet and hilarious, you are extremely thorough for these first time canners! I have used several of your recipes myself. I love to try new recipes. Thank you so much for being you and bringing canning to a new group who are just starting their canning journey. Have a very blessed day girl!!
I just want you to know I started canning because of your video. Thanks so much.
Soaking your potatoes in baking soda water for a few minutes gets them clean and removes the dirt easier.
Thanks, I didn't know that. I will do that next time for sure.
Thanks I'll do that
How much baking soda? How much water? How long do you soak?
Boy, that's my kinda lady right here. I'm working on 8 acres by myself, walking the land enjoying the breeze when the when blows it's like my ancestors talking to me.
Oh Gosh I can't wait to get some land! I'd love to have those acres.
Are you gardening on the whole 8 acres? I can't imagine the work that must entail. I will be doing my thing alone as well. I am thinking an acre would be enough of a garden to grow most of what I need. I would love to see your set up? Happy gardening. Janice
Beautiful sentiments, you are connecting with your ancestors. Lucky you!
They are there and will be guiding you! You just have to be still and Listen! That’s why the stillness of this pandemic is so prolific to us. The universe has SLOwed Us down. We have to reconnect us!
sweetdkinkycurls grow some potatoes in tubs if you have room to set them. There’s good tube videos for tub gardening.
Thank you for making these canning videos! I just started getting into canning recently & I was SO nervous to try my first batch, but after watching your videos you gave me the confidence to make the jump!
Last night I tried canning my 1st batch of potatoes & everything sealed perfectly. 🎉 Now I'm hooked & can't wait to keep canning even more lol

Thank you so much! I am completely new to canning and have searched the Internet like mad. While there are some good videos on RUclips, yours make me feel like I can do it!
FAM. You make me so proud!! You're doing more in two hours of canning, than some do all day. Isn't it great, when you pop a can of your own veggies open. Now, that's a "pop star," in my book. Much Respect. Peace always.
😁Heyyyyy I like that!!! I'm a Pop Star!
I have been canning for 30 years, never thought to put seasoning in the potatoes before canning them! I will be trying this today!
Isn't that smart! Can you imagine how good they taste when you open that can!

What brand and size of canner do you recommend?
@Nettie Reynolds yes
We need a tour of your PANTRY soon🤗🤗🤗
NO!! I mean I would love to see that also... but maybe we might all need to be a wee bit cautious about what the world sees since food shortages are planned around the world. I don't mean to sound such a fear monger. The times they are changing....way to fast.... Jesus is on His way.

So happy to have found your channel. We canned everything when we were raising our kids. We gave so many jars away when we moved a few months ago. I’m now buying jars, at a ridiculous price, and am canning again at the age of 71. Bless you!
This is one of the best videos on the internet. It will keep a lot of brothers and sisters from starving. Hard times are on the way. THANK YOU!
Totally motivated me, thank you! You made it so easy! A couple years ago I was canning chicken soup, I’ve done lots of water bath strawberry jam, but haven’t done much pressure canning. The way this world is going, may start! Thank you ❤️ “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
I too have been canning for years but stopped when we became empty nesters. Well now 3 daughters, a son in law, 1 dog and 4 cats have moved back home recently. You have motivated me again! There is a 100 pound bag of red potatoes in my kitchen waiting to be canned up tomorrow!
Sure wished I lived next door to you. I would love standing in your kitchen learning from such a knowledgeable woman.
You are a treasure! I so appreciate you sharing your expertise with us novices. May God continually pour out His blessings to you and yours!

Mama Bricette canning supplies are hard to find right now. I’ve been getting most of mine from Amazon. I did find cheap lids and rings at Walmart though.
Sent my sister to your RUclips channel. She subscribed to. We love you wonderful laughter and teaching us things like our mom did. We used to can getting back into it. You can more than our mom did. So we are learning how to do new canning.
I love this lady and watch her often .
Most complete and natural video that I've found on canning. Thx.
I am learning so much about canning from you it's insane! I am trying to stock up a pantry full of food for the winter. Thank you for all you do.
I love learning from you....but you are so much fun even if I didn't want to learn to can...I would want to be your neighbor and friend! Thank you for always, always making me smile!
I recently used this recipe to can my New Potatoes. The only other time I've tried canning them, I was disappointed because they were mushy. But these were perfect. I used half a quart with some green beans & took them to a friend's house for dinner & they loved them. Since I still had half a jar opened, I used them the next night at home. They were even delicious right out of the jar! I didn't have to add anything else to them! Couldn't BELIEVE how good they were. Your tip to turn the heat down to Medium when you start timing, to prevent them becoming mushy was like an AH-HA MOMENT! It just made perfect sense! I just shared your recipe, and the link to this video on Facebook! I'll be following you again. Thanks so much!
I made these Mrs. H. Ohhhh my goodness. We got into them yes we did.
Im canning another batch right now mrs. H.. God bless you all... Thank you for being YOU! Mr. And Mrs. Homestead Heart..

God bless you. Because of your videos, I was able to can potatoes. For the first time. I just wanted to say thank you. I've watched your channel for a very long time. I just had to say thank you because of what you're doing is encouraging me and many others.
This is my favorite potato canning vid, most others I've seen blanch but I like the raw pack. Would like to see some recipe vids of using canned goods. I'm getting a stocked pantry of chicken, pork and beef and potatoes and would like to see some good ways to use them, mostly I convert recipes using fresh meats and adapt them by changing the cooking time for canned meats. Love your friendly presentation and sometimes watch your vids when the news of the world becomes a little to sad.
Thank you Homestead Heart for all your hard work. I am canning potatoes for the first time today. I'm about to do my second batch of 7 quarts of yukon gold potatoes. I just pulled my first batch out of my canner, and these smell amazing!👏 Thank you so much for your tireless efforts and may The Most High bless you and your family.

Every one who cans potato's just loves them. I think I need to do this. You are such a good teacher at this and I do believe you were to tired. Being older now and having grown many gardens over the years and raising all kinds of animals I sure do know that you do get tired... Thank you for all you do and show us how to do.. Everyone who cans potato's says that the store bought ones don't even compare..
We just got a HUGE box of red potatoes from a local ministry... And thanks to your vid, I'm going to try to can them. TY so much.
thank you for sharing I'm 58 and I've never canned before but going to give it a shot God bless
This is the third video of yours I have watched and I have learned so much, thank you. You make me laugh and are a real joy to watch your bubbly personality shine through in your videos.
This is awesome! I love that you cold packed these. The idea of blanching and peeling was making canning potatoes feel too complicated. You get right to the point and don't complicate things! Plus I love the peels. Thanks!
The issue though is that there is a safety reason for peeling them and blanching them. Peelng is to reduce bacterial load. If you don't peel, then 40 minutes might be too short to ensure that the end product will be 100 % botulinum toxin free. If you don't blanch, then the potatoes might not get hot enough in the center. Again, 40 minutes might thus be too short to ensure the end product will be 100 % botulinum toxin free.
You make my heart happy and inspired me to buy a canner and teach my daughter and DIL

I love you sis. Oh I didn't remember to add the bay leaf in one of my jars but I was telling my dad about you and those bay leaves. He said they just add so much flavor but you just have to remember to remove them. So we're team bay leaves lol. Until next time. Greetings Jaxson.

If you can, grow them yoself. They have lot's of videos for urban farming. The hardest part is starting.....
@@lorrainemosbylo8717 I heard that when you cut your potatoes to plant, roll the potatoes in wood ashes (shake off excess), then plant in the ground. The ashes keep pests away from the potatoes. Good luck!
Grow potatoes in tubs ( Rubbermaid are flexible), they hold up through winter as if nothing happened. I think there is enough time to put in a second round and I will do this tomorrow. I have three tubs already planted. I also have 2 tubs planted with sweet potato vines and they are doing well too. So easy. You can make your own slips next season, just start early so they will be mature for planting. I did it the first time just by watching RUclips advice. I have never used a pressure canner for canning, only hot bath. Can an old dog learn a new trick?
