    I just canned some more red potatoes because these potatoes are the truth. I'm canning some Yukon gold potatoes today but I forgot to add the dang bay leaves. I know it's still going to be good. Lord these potatoes smell so good right now. Until next time.

      Prepare for a time such as this. Some friends from church came over one day and we have now been dubbed "The Food House"! It took a pandemic to get people to pay attention and realize they have to depend on themselves and not on the grocery stores. I was laughed at because I open so many jars each week, wash the jars and fill them again. My meat jars outnumber my vegetable jars now though 😔 Tip for new canners, grab a box of seals every time you go to the store. It is less of a hit to your wallet that way.

    I recently used this recipe to can my New Potatoes. The only other time I've tried canning them, I was disappointed because they were mushy. But these were perfect. I used half a quart with some green beans & took them to a friend's house for dinner & they loved them. Since I still had half a jar opened, I used them the next night at home. They were even delicious right out of the jar! I didn't have to add anything else to them! Couldn't BELIEVE how good they were. Your tip to turn the heat down to Medium when you start timing, to prevent them becoming mushy was like an AH-HA MOMENT! It just made perfect sense! This is my favorite potato canning vid, most others I've seen blanch but I like the raw pack. Would like to see some recipe vids of using canned goods. I'm getting a stocked pantry of chicken, pork and beef and potatoes and would like to see some good ways to use them, mostly I convert recipes using fresh meats and adapt them by changing the cooking time for canned meats. Love your friendly presentation and sometimes watch your vids when the news of the world becomes a little to sad.

    Thank you Homestead Heart for all your hard work. I am canning potatoes for the first time today. I'm about to do my second batch of 7 quarts of yukon gold potatoes. I just pulled my first batch out of my canner, and these smell amazing!👏 Thank you so much for your tireless efforts and may The Most High bless you and your family.

    Every one who cans potato's just loves them. I think I need to do this. You are such a good teacher at this and I do believe you were to tired. Being older now and having grown many gardens over the years and raising all kinds of animals I sure do know that you do get tired... Thank you for all you do and show us how to do.. Everyone who cans potato's says that the store bought ones don't even compare..

    This is awesome! I love that you cold packed these. The idea of blanching and peeling was making canning potatoes feel too complicated. You get right to the point and don't complicate things! Plus I love the peels. Thanks!

    • @jockeberg4089
      @jockeberg4089 Год назад +2

      The issue though is that there is a safety reason for peeling them and blanching them. Peelng is to reduce bacterial load. If you don't peel, then 40 minutes might be too short to ensure that the end product will be 100 % botulinum toxin free. If you don't blanch, then the potatoes might not get hot enough in the center. Again, 40 minutes might thus be too short to ensure the end product will be 100 % botulinum toxin free.

    Just made this today. I haven't had it yet but it smells so good. I can't wait to taste it tomorrow. I did shake it to get the spices through the jar. It looks pretty and smells good. You know I'm your garlic twin. Thank you for sharing your knowledge especially for us newbies.
    I love you sis. Oh I didn't remember to add the bay leaf in one of my jars but I was telling my dad about you and those bay leaves. He said they just add so much flavor but you just have to remember to remove them. So we're team bay leaves lol. Until next time. Greetings Jaxson.

      @@lorrainemosbylo8717 I heard that when you cut your potatoes to plant, roll the potatoes in wood ashes (shake off excess), then plant in the ground. The ashes keep pests away from the potatoes. Good luck!

      Grow potatoes in tubs ( Rubbermaid are flexible), they hold up through winter as if nothing happened. I think there is enough time to put in a second round and I will do this tomorrow. I have three tubs already planted. I also have 2 tubs planted with sweet potato vines and they are doing well too. So easy. You can make your own slips next season, just start early so they will be mature for planting. I did it the first time just by watching RUclips advice. I have never used a pressure canner for canning, only hot bath. Can an old dog learn a new trick?
