Lidl's food products have really gone down the toilet since Covid. Poor quality food and prices in general. Their products were good pre Covid. Fresh vegetables, good range and reasonable quality for the price. But in the last year or two they have become expensive as Tesco, Sainsbury's. Certain products have reduced in size but increased in price at the same time. Shrinkflation has become rife in Lidl's, but its the quality that has taken the biggest downturn. Curry ready meals now contain tough fibrous, chewy chicken. Chicken breasts are more expensive than Sainsbury s and are chewy. Vegetables and fruit are poor quality, much of it overripe ( pale yellow cucumbers, shrivelled tasteless tomatoes, tiny avocado's or fruit (especially pears and plums) that claims to be ripe and ready but in reality they remain hard and never ripen properly and get thrown in the bin... Lidl's quality has really taken a tumble and they are no longer the bargain basement of food products. Most of it is a tasteless concoction of various chemicals ( mostly salt) that do nothing. They must be bad as I have now started visiting Tesco again after avoiding them for the past few years
Totally agree with what you say. I went in our local Lidl last week . The fresh bread was OK but the fruit I got apples and pears tasteless and never ripened as you said. Prices no longer reflect the quality of the produce they have gone downhill rapidly which is a shame as you said pre Covid they definitely were a lot better
you should try Aldi. Its the same there too. I'm going back to British supermarkets. I suspect Brexit must have had an impact on those German Supermarkets somwhere.

In the 70s, lots of pubs have toastie machines. 2 bits of bread, a filling of some sort, all put in a "plastic" bag and grilled both sides at the same time. Some places had a press, similar to a drill stand, that was used to squeeze the edges together to stop them leaking. I tried all sorts, but sliced hotdogs with cheese ALWAYS smelled rank and tasted worse.
Especially with these off branded fake American products it’s honestly a hit and miss glad your still okay Gaz after this revolting experience but I guess the bin enjoyed it Thanks for the review Gaz

I don't think they care about the taste, they're just looking for a way to use stuff that would otherwise be thrown away. This way, people pay THEM to dispose of their waste.

@@GavinColbourne being out of date is only one way it can go off, the whole batch may have been frozen then accidentally defrosted allowing spoiling. This happens more often then you'd like to think, or possibly just a bad batch, baldy is usually very easy to please and doesn't overreact like some so this would suggest these toasties are spoiled.

Gareth on most toasters the numbers relate to shading. ie number 1 the lightest 10 the darkest
