With android I can do much more as long as I'm careful. Repairing it is easier and much more affordable too.

Is kind of like saying that when people put together a budget gaming PC build for say $450 but then when you try to do the same at the same price or about, then it adds up to having to purchase an OS, microsoft office, security for your PC to protect against malware and viruses, monitor, mouse, keyboard (unless you already have those), editing softwares, etc. So those kind of extra features needed to make a complete PC. Oh yeah and a wifi adapter or an ethernet cable to connect your PC to the internet.

GeekBoy - So he should have said 'per component' - still pretty cheap. Each component he used is about $5 or less especially on sales. Even regular prices it's all about $5, maybe $6 bucks a piece on Amazon. You could grab the 3D file and have someone custom print and send those small parts to you for about $5 or $10 if you don't already know someone to print it for you even.
I have to say, although not an exact description... I'm gonna defend the kid on this one. It's nowhere even close to the diamond ring example. This is uber-cheap to build.
Hell, if you're willing to wait 2 weeks for shipments - you can buy most of the stuff on Alibaba or Ali Express for like 5pc for $6. So... he's not far off anyway. lol
