@@MasDouc David Wise arranged the compositions for the NES version, that was it. California Games was originally developed on the Commodore 64 by Epyx (it was quite a successful game. 21 different computers/consoles had this game). The original compositions were done by sound designer Chris Grigg (they recently hired him away from Lucasfilm games, mostly to work on designing the sound hardware for the Handy game console, later known as the Atari Lynx).
Nintendo entertainment system 1980 old days 1980´S OMG i remember this game way back to the old school and i love this song California Games (NES) Music - Half Pipe and my favourite song Thanks for uploading! .i can kiss you right now GBelair 2013
The Genesis port was done by: Sega For some reason, the music is the same, but the tracks are in different games on the Sega Version. The (original) C64 and this version have the music in the correct positions. However the Half Pipe music here on the NES isnt exactly the same as the C64 version. Chris Grigg created a handful of different jingles and drum backgrounds that were about 18 seconds long and the C64 would randomly play 2 of those jingles/drum backgrounds at a time while the third voice played all the sound effects.
@@ClassicTVMan1981X ruclips.net/video/lnLK_tQBPus/видео.html There are games where the music is better on the C64, and games where the music is better done on the NES. On California games, the C64 does it much better. Chris Grigg is an underrated composer. He would have had much more attention if the Epyx Handy (aka. the Atari Lynx) succeeded as a console.
It is the best track in the NES version. However the original (Commodore 64) version had a superior sound design, mostly due to the SID in the Commodore 64.
There is no SNES version of this game. There is an SNES version of California Games 2, but not this game, no. Shortly after the time this came out for the NES, there was a fight between Nintendo of America and Epyx over the content and naming of Impossible Mission 2. Impossible Mission 2 was considered "not family friendly" due to its deathly scream when you fell off the screen and the end where Prof. Atombender apparently commits suicide, leaving a bloodpile (blood was a big no no for Nintendo back then). Also, Impossible Mission 2 wasnt an acceptable title because it wasnt the second one to be on a Nintendo system, and Nintendo suggested it be renamed "Impossible Mission." Epyx didnt like Nintendo's strict content requirements and went around them by getting the game distributed on an illegally manufactured cartridge which zapped Nintendo's lockout chip. The rift between Minoru Arakawa and David Morse was quite huge after Epyx did this.
@@scottythegreat1 Huh. Thanks for the information. Isn't there a version of this song that's, for the lack of a better word, less chiptune? Something that sounds higher quality or the like. I've heard something like that before with this song, and it sounds good.
This one was one of the best songs in the game
I rented this as a kid, I was terrible at it. The music is great.
David Wise did it, same guy who created the music for Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2
@@MasDouc I did not know that. Neat tidbit.

Metropolis Zone?!?
"Metropolis Zone" is from the "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" released in 1992, while "California Games" was released in 1987

Once you get it down you go until the timer runs out with no f ups and tip score. Easy win
Unsurprisingly, this theme is also used for the Skating event on the Genesis port.
