Rick - It was great meeting you and chatting at Holland State Park. We pulled out this morning around 8:30. I hope you get some film of our beautiful State, you will love it up north and the UP. Wishing you and Lisa safe travels and enjoy the Rally. Craig Ackerson
I pull our 2005 28' Classic with our 2008 Dodge Ram 6.7 Cummins 4X4. We purchased the truck new and it now has 157K on it and just breaking in. The truck has no frills and believe it or not roll-up windows and manual locks. I've never done anything to the engine or transmission except routine maintenance. I did have to change out the tail pipe due to it rusting out, but replaced it myself. I also added a 46 gallon spare diesel tank in the truck bed along with electric switch and pump for long distance RV traveling. We plan to have the truck another 10 years or so. Safe travels!
Our mirrors are manual too. You have continued to up your editing and content, well done! Loved hearing Lisa's voice in the opening. Great informational video you guys! - Jim & Michelle :)
100% with you on keeping the old truck. Still getting around with my 2008 truck. If you were looking to replace Garage Men's Companion,GMC) choose First on Race Day(FORD).
Rick, you're 100% right on with everything you said. The "old" trucks are the BEST really. I bought a new 2023 Silverado 2500 and I'll tell you, it's the plain version with absolutley nothing fancy at all for a whopping $54K. I do love it, but dam the payment. Luckily we're fortunate to afford it but the point is that these new trucks are outrageously priced and for someone like you who has a beautifully maintned truck, KEEP IT!! And with 88K miles, it's still a baby.
We're with you. The original "Luv Truck" was a 2001 Ford F-150 that faithfully towed our Airstream for 18 years. We would still have it but the cruel Vermont winters rusted her out to the point that every now and then when we would close the door, a big piece of random metal chunk would fall onto the street. The final straw was when a transmission line burst leaving us stranded. That fell into the "Peace of Mind" category and we went shopping right after that failure. We currently LUV our 2018 Ford F-150 4X4 XLT Supercab with the 5.0 liter Coyote engine and the 10 speed transmission. Color - "Blue Jeans".
Great program. I identified with just about everything you said. We have a 2009 F250 Diesel with just 92,000 miles. We are the only owners. I do purchase extended warranties every 3-4 years and I do maintaining religiously. The one item for diesel engines like mine that I love is no DEF. I have offers on our truck all the time as folks don’t like the DEF. This is my last truck as I’m a bit older than you and when the time comes to sell “Larry,” (Lariat) we’ll also give up our Airstream, too. Carry on. S
very interesting discussion. We just upgraded our tow vehicle a couple months ago. Nothing really wrong with my old truck. It was 10 years old and over 100K miles and I think perhaps it was the "peace of Mind" factor that was the biggest thing that got me looking to upgrade. Now somebody will probably drive the old truck for another 10 years and another 100K. I was starting to have a few repairs, and little things that could leave us stranded. At the last oil change we noticed an occasional drip from the radiator, and when we touched the hose it fell off. Thankfully that happened with the truck on a hoist and not on the highway :) But have a newer one now, and hopefully will run it for 10 years and then decide from there. Mind you we occasionally see new trucks on the back of tow trucks as well, so one never knows I guess. safe travels...
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer on when to upgrade...just when it's right for you. Peace of Mind is a very valuable asset to consider and one that we will definitely take into consider when the time comes. Anyways...enjoy your new truck and safe travels.
Another consideration if you're still working is timing the purchase maybe to pay for it while working so that you have the note paid-off in retirement. So you start retirement with an all new and hopefully dependable rig. My current truck is 11 years old and I'm hoping to stretch it until a few years before my retirement target and then purchase a new rig and pay it off while working.
That's great advice. Since we are already retired, we have already started saving for our "future" truck. Just need a few more years with our current truck before upgrading.
You should go out and buy a new Chevy and sell that old junker GMC of yours to my son in law in Tenn- cheap. What's $60,000-$100,000 for a new truck anyway?🙂
Iam asking myself the same question. Iam towing with a 2002 excursion. And I love this vehicle. No problems and 248 k miles. I wish they make new ones. My first tow vehicle was a race range rover. Towed good but excursion was a better fit
I have 3 trucks and 1 SUV. They are all GMC. With the cost of new trucks it is time to replace your truck when you can no longer find replacement parts.
We highly discourage anyone from purchasing a 23 or 24 Ford Super Duty. They have a known a/c problem that Ford can't seem to figure out. Our 2023 that we bought in December has not had a/c for 3 months now. For this reason we had to cancel our trip to International Rally! So maddening! We're really regretting that we let go of our 2015 gasser. He might have been slow up hills, but he was COOL!!!!
@@thewrightlife It's ready with the Silverado, for towing you need a 500 mile range which it has. Definitely take a look and a test tow when you're ready for a switch.

Don’t you mean…Fix or Repair Daily (FORD) 🤣

The motor and transmission is still strong. It’s all the plastic parts that are starting to break 🤣
@@thewrightlife as you know, most of that plastic is easy to fix and inexpensive so win-win !

Wow…18 years! We hope to get another 4-5 years from our truck before we need to start shopping for another.

We are already dreading the day when we will have to make the switch. Hope its not for several more years 🤞
88,000 miles? It’s barely broken in. My tow vehicle has 300,000 but it’s got a new motor. I just can’t afford to replace it
We can only hope to reach 300K miles. That is awesome 👏

Agree…The cost 💰💰💰 of new trucks is ridiculous

That’s a bummer. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hope Ford gets it fixed soon so you can continue your adventures. Safe travels
Question…thinking of purchasing the same tire you have in this video. Seriously, how bad is the road noise?
We only run this tires and love them. We have no issue with road noise. 5 Stars ⭐️ HIGHLY Recommend
@@thewrightlife thank you!
Btw…Ford.
@@Michaelmontana08 …they are nice trucks 🛻🙂
I love my old truck. Don't need all the gadgets and gizmos. I like it's looks. But it's getting rusty!
Rust on a truck is like gray hairs on a man…It’s just part of getting older.
If it’s from after 1985 it’s still new.
Agree
Get a Silverado EV with 500 mile range, it's a superior towing experience in every way, with less maintenance and breakdowns.
I've liked the idea of an EV, but wasn't sure if the technology was ready yet. Perhaps in a few more years we when look to upgrade.
