  • This week I hook up with Nick Wittman from Happy Paddlin to test our two new Eddyline Sit on Top Kayaks. We put in and floated one of my favorite local rivers. It's class 1 moving water, perfect for these fun in the sun sit on top kayaks. It's always fun to show someone new around your local waters, and Nicks energy always makes for a day of smiles.
    I was paddling the Caribbean 109 and Nick was in the Caribbean12 FS.

    I know this video is Old, but I weigh 210. Would the Caribbean 12 work for me with only a 275 pound weight limit? I know with the weight of the boat that actually becomes 230 pounds, then gear etc. Seems like that a very conservative weight capacity for a 12 foot boat

  • @bradreid6057
    @bradreid6057 4 года назад

    Dan, I see most of the Eddylines have re-calibrated their "capacity" figures. It used to be that their capacity ratings meant "including the weight of the kayak." Has this changed??? The Caribbean 14 has gone from 400 to 350 for example. Anyway, for the new 12 FS, the 12 Angler and the 14 Angler, what would you say are the limits regarding the max size of the kayaker with limited gear? Will the 12s handle a 250 lbs. man? Brad

    • @HeadwatersKayak
      @HeadwatersKayak  4 года назад

      Brad Reid it would be pushing it 250. That’s probably a good max paddler weight. I don’t pay that close of attention to manufactures capacity.

    I have watched many of your high quality videos and especially like this video you made with Nick because you two talked about your pfd pocket contents. I thought that segment alone would be great as a stand-alone video for what to carry. Do you plan to make any new videos on gear? I mean beyond the ones you've already made. It'd be awesome if you made a longer, separate video explaining your essential kit. Selfishly I'd like to get some advice on manual bilge pumps, as I'd bet you've found a few that are really reliable. The comments on specific pumps on retailers' websites seem to be mixed so I'm hesitant to buy one without more research. I've searched for some video reviews on them, but have come up with little real information. They seem to either say "get a bilge pump" without recommending or describing what characteristics to look for, or are what amounts to be a PowerPoint presentation on the first 10 results for that specific item on Amazon! Then I started noticing that there really aren't that many videos that break down not-necessarily-essential (read: not pfd/paddle/whistle/water) but maybe secondary gear you really should have every time out like what you both presented here. Thanks for keeping that part in this video!
    Looking forward to more of your kayaking adventure videos. Stay safe and happy paddling!

    • @HeadwatersKayak
      @HeadwatersKayak  3 года назад

      I’ve used them all and I stick with the Aquabound Bilge. It’s small and not super bulky and is exceptionally reliable even after a ton of use. Metal parts instead of plastic as well. Thanks for the comment. I do plan on doing more videos about gear so be sure to hit the notifications bell.
