My Dad had this album on vinyl, still does. I used to bug him to play the full 12 minute version of this song. Really captured my imagination. RIP Vangelis.
I was lucky to have had an older brother. 7 years older than me. He taught me some new type of music that I never would have know. May he be blessed. Almost 2 years since his passing . But it is all good
I once got on Virgin radio, DJ asked me what song I wanted playing, I asked for this one, DJ never heard of it, couldn’t find it in their music library, shocking, haven’t listened to Virgin since , this song an absolute classic and year’s ahead of it’s time
Slam Dunk Cosmos How old are your friends? This music is timeless if you ask me. Every friend I've turned on to this song has absolutely loved it and every time they here it I usually get a shout out on Facebook or something saying how it reminds them of me! That feels so amazing! It reminds me of the person who first played it for me as well! It's a wonderfully gentle, spiritual piece for sure! I love the way you described it. We are lucky to have it to enjoy in the years to come! Peace! Tammie Parrish Miller
My husband and I loved Vangelis. One day he brought home this album and we just went insane for it. When my kids were little we had it on our big stereo all the time. Thanks you Vangelis for all your music. You are the Greek God of music forever.
Such a marvellous album.I bought it on vinyl when released in 1981.Jon and Vangelis.Pure magic together.Inimitable and so unique. What an amazing collaboration over several stunning albums in the early 80's.
Not sure how many times Vangelis actually appeared in his promotional videos (I can only think of a couple (and they involve Jon Anderson!)). We've lost a really special figure in music and an exceptionally gifted person. We have these little snippets to remember him by. Rest in Peace and Thank you.
I think this is the first time I have heard the single edit and whilst it is nice I imagine folks who have not heard the full album version must wonder why so many people are waxing lyrical about this song. You have to experience the full 12-minute version, simple as that. A friend of mine at college in 1988 put me on to this song, I was blown away, and it has gone on to resonate brightly through the decades. It was certainly out of step with the music fashions of the day but that didn't bother us 17-year-olds in the slightest. It's one of those songs where I hang on to every moment of the journey, and it simultaneously pulls me back to special times as a teen.
40 years ago I discovered this song on French TV while on holidays. I didn't wait long to find the LP (yes LP) of the Friends of Mr. Cairo. Epic. Ground braking songs with Jon. And then my discovery of China album and much more. In all your songs you have just that moment where the angels just kindly touch the notes and we listened together with you. RIP Maestro
People are complaining about the short length of this edit, but I seem to recall a short edit as a single that was played on radio. Makes sense that the video would be the same length as the radio single was.
This vividly brings back memories of sailing on the Alaskan ferry Tustumena, back in 1984 listening to cassette tapes. Much of the Vangelis track complimented the beautiful scenery...
Been listening and captured by Jon’s voice since “Yes” days but his collaboration with Vangelis is superb. Never tire of the clever junctaposition of voice and backing !
Jon Anderson rocks!!! Of course, YES is him! Vangelis was a very brief gig (snark), but boy how this thing rocks it! I didn't even know about this song until I was watching Fringe for the 20th time. I knew it was Anderson. Hard to believe I was 23 ATT HEH, just bought the original vinyl DELECTUS.
I have this on vinyl, and play it every once in a while. Gives me chills every time I listen to it. What a perfect song from an unsung duo! They really worked well together. This video doesn't include it, but there's a brilliant tempo/beat shift at the end of the song that I've been trying to figure out how they pulled off so flawlessly since 1994 when I first heard the song.
I'm obsessively listening to Jon and vangelis, bro in law funeral 2 days ago,he loved these, had every album,I can't stop crying listening to find my way home 😓
My husband, Michael, saw these two open for King Crimson at The Mann Music Center in Philadelphia in the summer 1982. He still talks about their performance!
Classic album period! What more can you ask for, Jon Anderson and Vangelis. All 4 albums they released are outstanding. Thank you, Vangelis, for so many years of truly outstanding music. 👍
I was in 8th grade when this was on the radio and I'm just so thrilled to find it once again! Didn't know the title but searched,"really kind of useless though, don't you think so Mary?". And finally found the title! Happy Day!
Friday night FM radio in the very early 80s. This, and Gary Numan, Huey and News "Do You Believe", and Dire Straits, and Men At Work, and "Tom Sawyer", and Payola$ "Eyes of a Stranger", and "Bette Davis Eyes", and "Take It On the Run", and Christopher Cross and "Emotional Rescue"....
My partner of 28 yrs micky loved this as do i ,he died in 2012 every song by vangelis reminds me of him x you don't get over it ,you learn to live with it x brilliant track x
Never listened to this track, only “I’ll Find My Way Home” which is beyond beautiful. But this is very unique and unusual from what I’ve heard of there’s. I can see why this is the title track, since it’s just purely excellent. RIP Mr V 😔😔😔❤️❤️❤️
One of the biggest spreads between chart position in the US and Canada - this song was #1 in Canada for three weeks but never even charted on the Billboard Hot 100...
Canadians have historically had more eclectic tastes in popular music styles. Progressive rock and new wave in the early 80s got tons of airplay no matter from whence it came.
Canadians had great bands Prism Streetheart ,Pinheads , Triumph, Toronto , Chilawack ,and of course the Payolas eyes of a stranger........then the more common one Rush!
Have a look at the yes album cover, tales from topographic ocean, France 1917 art by Roger Dean Listen to the album, on the LP label Friends of Mr Cairo there is picture of Menin Gate war memorial and Keys to the tales album art Whole new universe for some
This song brings together the real history and the artistic voice/visual effects of the cinema. So beautiful masterpiece to make us understand these long hard years by emotional feeling. Thank you from Istanbul and RIP Dear Vangelis.
I remember Senior year 1981-82, fall 1981 going to school waiting to hear this song, KSKU Hutchinson KS used to play it the same time every morning. Really liked it.
The horns and screeching tires at the very beginning is from the movie The Mechanic with Charles Bronson, it's here on RUclips, right about 1:05:51 mark
one of my favorite albums PERIOD. My favorite movie is the Maltese Falcon. This song really captures that spirit..I cry every time I hear this....Thanks for posting!
One of my favourite albums , my wee brother bought it .Between us we had some brilliant 70’s and 80’s albums s, such a great time to grow up . No internet , just the NME or Melody Maker a packet of king size rizzlas little sprinkle of Moroccan or Pakistan black , yes truly innocent days with a great soundtrack
I remember this song at number 1 for a while here in Canada back in the day when i was in grade 4 or 5 or so. I had almost forgotten it until I came across a reference to it somewhere. Blast from the past! Haha, thanks for the up.
I was a kid when my parents bought a music cassette with this album. It was back in the 90s, but I still listen to this album with the same joy I used to do it back in my childhood, imagining the whole visual scenario of the album story.
What a story! And the delivery? Pure excellence! Wore the 45 right out! Dark and deliberate, it's 2020 and still sends chills down my spine when I hear it. This song should have been in a movie or a movie based on this song!
My Dad had this album on vinyl, still does. I used to bug him to play the full 12 minute version of this song. Really captured my imagination. RIP Vangelis.

@@jbg101 like listening to a story..my favorite series boardwalk empire. I agree with you
Amasing how she does that chorus, let alone rest
40 years later and I'm still listening to this tune.
Your not the only one
My dad loved this song , I looked for it for a long time and finally remembered the name, thank you!
Same here , i just had a part of the melody. I mumbled it to google! My father had a cassette.
The full version of the song is much better.
Dla mnie jeden z najlepszych utworów lat młodości ❤
In their prime, and glory.
The original 12 minute version still holds as a wonderfully gentle, spiritual piece. I kinda wish my friends liked this.

My three kids used to act this out in the livingroom! All these years later, they can still jump into that scene without a hitch! So funny.
Oh my friends are nearly 20 but their taste is decent while Jon & Vangelis might not be their jam, haha
@@robinhenderson6032 Good parenting!
The Bass And Synth reminds me of DEVO !
RIP Vangelis. Thanks for the great music.
My husband and I loved Vangelis. One day he brought home this album and we just went insane for it. When my kids were little we had it on our big stereo all the time. Thanks you Vangelis for all your music. You are the Greek God of music forever.
I grew up playing the piano and cello and didnt care much for rock music until I heard this.
Such a marvellous album.I bought it on vinyl when released in 1981.Jon and Vangelis.Pure magic together.Inimitable and so unique. What an amazing collaboration over several stunning albums in the early 80's.
Such a great riff, worked really well in The Untouchables soundtrack too.
Yep, Ennio Morricone used the Vangelis melody and changed a bunch of things but it's repurposed as Al Capone's theme.

Yes, I was very disappointed to find someone had removed the best part of the song. Though it's lengthy, it is well worth every single second...

One of the greatest acheivements of the eclectic genius of Vangelis. Love you, Evángelos
I like him cause my name is in his :D jk he is amazing. I love me some Blade Runner and Bounty
And Jon Anderson.
I've listened to this track regularly for over 25 years. Never tire of it. Almost spiritual.
Cool shit. I heard this forty years ago sitting in back of a taxi. I said, "please turn up the volume"
with that face alone, Vangelis would be a perfect villain. mesmerizing eyes, dark gaze, and the overall "dark, sexy & mysterious" stuff. I like it
A great James Bond perhaps 🍸⚔
This vividly brings back memories of sailing on the Alaskan ferry Tustumena, back in 1984 listening to cassette tapes. Much of the Vangelis track complimented the beautiful scenery...
Timeless. When we were kids we always played this album in the car and sang out loud as a family. Still my favourite musicians in my 40s

Vida eterna a Vangelis. Nos dejó en cuerpo pero su música será para siempre!
I've been listening to it since 1995 and I keep coming back to it
40 years has gone by. I remember listening to this on the radio as a teenager
"And I was privileged to be as I am to this day, To be with you. To be with you," the words that resonate through my soul.
Le walkman dans la poche, le casque sur les oreilles et j'avalais les kilomètres dans mon buggy avec insouciance. Cela s'appelait la jeunesse 😊
remember rewinding this with a Bic pen so as not to drain the batteries on my Walkman

Jon is an absolute legend, the only choice for Vangelis.
Espectacular as músicas de Jon and Vangelis

In full HD, finally! For ages the only copies of this amazing video in here had poor quality.
The Greek maestro! And Jon with his silky voice.
Heard this in '82... proud to know all the world (and do a decent 'James Stewart' to boot!). Thank you for the memories J&V! #tessaslegacy♥
Had this album. Wore the grooves down on this part of the record.
Ravie d'avoir enfin trouvé une vidéo sur cette magnifique chanson, voix incroyable de jon ....quel plaisir !!!

Known this from when I was a toddler. I lived with most of the songs from Vangelis.
I remember this song freaked me out as a kid, but loved it anyhow. Still do.
This track MUST have the last epilogue where Jon sings about the silver screen… this song is all about the movies 🎥
Such a shame the other half is missing ... to me ... that was the best bit. Dreamy, Inspirational, a starlit Fantasy.
I love this song - have done for decades. I have never seen this video before - indeed, I had no idea there was a video! Thank you!
Increíble...
Casi 40 años sin volver a oír éste tema...
Me ha transportado a mi adolescencia.
Geniales J & V ...
...when congeniality can no longer be surpassed...musically, compositionally, in terms of arrangement, emotionally...
I don't like using this word but this- This ; this is an underated masterpiece
Happy Birthday today(October 25) to vocalist Jon Anderson. Cheers!
Now thats a synth duo from the 80s you never expected. Jon/Vangelis.
I've been listening to it since 1995 and I keep coming back to it
In college I accidentally ordered the album from Columbia House Record Club. A great mistake.

I was about 10 and my brother listenned to the long version in the car. I now have this on my spotify playlist
One on the best songs of it`s time. RIP Vangelis we will miss you!
Great music thanks
I have heard it zillion times during playing Manic Miner in the '80s
Totally original. I remember listening to it in my teens and thinking it was ok now I think its genius.
What a story! And the delivery? Pure excellence! Wore the 45 right out!
Dark and deliberate, it's 2020 and still sends chills down my spine when I hear it. This song should have been in a movie or a movie based on this song!
A bit from the longer version did get used in an episode of Fringe (4x15)
vangelis personality in this video is fantastic.
RIP Vangelis.
Remember buying this album, incredible
Without Vangelis we wouldn't have the Blade Runner or Chariots of Fire soundtrack...and this. Be still my heart Vangelis. My favorite composer! 💗💖💕
Mine too. I am blessed with a huge collection
