Here's a playlist I made with John's videos he has on RUclips: ruclips.net/p/PLrMj15AH99BoaEjcT5kre_oLSOCRVffNE The first two videos are almost full length demos. I am very grateful that he has given us the opportunity to watch his painting process. Thanks for watching!
Always great to see John’s work. Loose brushwork yet every stroke is carefully considered. I’ve had several workshops with John and he changed my thinking about design and use of correct values.
If you view his demo vids you'll know he is now an acrylic painter. He began painting as an oil painter but switched after he seemed to be negatively affected by the solvents associated with oils. I first met him at the initial plein air event we participated in in Sonoma CA where he won the best of show award in 2002. A very nice person as well as a great artist. I've painted in acrylics for many years as a wildlife painter but never as a plein air landscape painter, as I do now. I use oils. Being a water medium, acrylic paint offers challenges, as does watercolor, as a plein air medium, but as witnessed by the work, here, it works well for him. And it is not dissimilar, to the untrained eye, from oils, the "king" of outdoor mediums, in terms of paint quality and effectiveness in capturing the beauty of nature while painting on the spot!!

I would love to take a workshop with him one day!

Thank you, Dane. I got to see a lot more of John Poon's work. I ache to paint like him and have decided to do some master studies.
