Shunelett Myintthu because they usually have this huge degree of realism that instantly gets you invested in the story .. reading about stuff that could happen in real life affects us more than reading fantasy
In the end, wether we want to accept it or not humanity is a complete mess, though some of us live with peace and happiness through out our life, there are also those who expirience and get to see first hand just how evil and disgusting we can truly be, and unless we begin to strive for change, and instead continue on fearing it, we will never evolve into something better, and will always remain shrouded in drakness.... like the fools we are.
I'm prettt happy you decided to review this in such a serious way. The author of the novel that this manga is based on is said to have committed suicide shortly after he finished. It's said to be an autobiography. The series deserves a tone like yours in this video.
5:37 the only thing I slightly disagree with is this take that the guy was a COMPELTELY awful person that you wouldn’t want to be around; he was highly intelligent and charismatic, but unfortunately very SAD and broken. everyone at school thought he was cool, then all the commies thought he was charismatic for a young student, he was NICE to the prostitutes, he was nice with the woman’s daughter whom loved his manga even after he was gone, the bar community loved him, the manga business thought he was a promising talent and the intern envied him. the story is about a man who had everything and lost everything; he even was handsome and good with women which is almost the most primal of all things that men most desire.
If u haven't heard of this yet I recommend reading Oyasumi punpun which is a series with similar themes to no longer human, except a lot more faqed up.
I made the mistake of reading that series as soon as I finished the semester. Needless to say I became depressed as soon as I gained happiness from being on break. It was good though
Ozamu Dazai's life was really interesting and tragic. I think this novel was meant to be kind of an autobiography and is actually the last novel he published before commiting suicide after several suicide attempts in previous years.
i recommend you to watch ''Aoi bungaku series'', the first 4 episodes are the adaptation of the novel, produced by studio MADHOUSE & Takeshi Obata(Death note, Bakuman) did the art!!
Awesome!!! so glad you got around to reading this so soon! its one of my favourite manga's. And once I learned about the author, (Osamu dazai), it gave a whole other dimension to the story. Great review. =)
I just found out there's an anime series based on this story... or at least the 4 episodes of that series. It's called *Aoi Bungaku* an anthology series. Thanks for the help guys.
Okay this is a followup now that I have taken the time to contemplate this. This series really does paint a picture of despair and is very eye-opening. I suppose if I'm not careful I could end up much like our unfortunate protagonist; I do use people and while I know it's wrong, I'm trying to work on it. If that doesn't work, I will get worse. When I get worse, I will probably turn to booze or drugs to put myself apart from the reality of the person I become. And after that, well there really is only one conclusion. It's not that I'm expecting any responses whatsoever for this comment, I just need to use it as a wake up call to myself, if anything.
Tenos I'd like to think so. In the recent months I began smoking a lot of weed, but the other side to that is that I met a girl who made me change my life. Granted I'm still only 16 so this is coming from the mind of a teenager, but she made me want to change. We started dating not too long ago, and since then I've stopped smoking entirely. We broke up on monday, which tore me apart a little, but even if I can't get her back, I'm still a lot happier.
Yeah man, I'd like to check up on you too. I went through something something very similar when i was your age, but it was more align with the book. I was able to get out of the nasty habits but it always feels like i'm one panic attack away from giving in. Get support, you can't do it alone (you can, it's just much easier with people who care). best of luck to you my friend. nothing's wrong with weed as long as it's not a gateway & don't depend on it for happiness.
In India, we recently had a case where a 16 yrs old girl shot her mother and brother while they were sleeping and also she wrote on her personal mirror "disqualified human". and also shot on that mirror. She said she was suffering from depression and some people claim that her act is a result of this book.. Is it true??
What is ironically is that the writer did die in a suicide. On June 13, 1948, Dazai and Tomie drowned themselves in the rain-swollen Tamagawa Canal, near his house. Their bodies were not discovered until six days later, on June 19, which would have been his 39th birthday.
The original book was very similar to a self-biography because many of the actions made by the main character was made by the writer. Sadly the writer successfully committed suicide in the same year.
Following up on a realistic take on life and its unfortunate realities, i'd really like for you to check out and eventually review a manga called Oyasumi PunPun, if you haven't already. Its sounds like something that would go along well with what you just read, a character experiencing the harsh realities of life and its punishments on him and those around him.
The actual novel by far goes deeper than the manga/anime. It shows that no matter how fucked up Oba was, it was his rather harsh view of himself that drove him to his destruction. Basically, he was just a guy. And he couldn't handle that truth.
oh my god!! i am so lucky, when i read the first Vizbig of vagabond in the same week you make a review of it.. And i read the last volume of No lunger Human Yesterday, and now you make a review?? o.O I'm so lucky xD
I've read one of the volumes about a year ago, was really good but made me question human nature more. One of the two manga that can call a depressing read, along side Oyasumi Punpun.
I read this series in one sitting today for the first time, and it was incredible. This is the single most refreshing and haunting manga I've ever read. It's not for anyone, but I think it should be experienced by everyone (if you're not too young). I don't think anyone can say they found this series enjoyable, but it's incredibly powerful and really hit me more than I ever thought it would have. Read this masterpiece if you haven't already!
I remember this to originally be a famous novel by an author renowned for having attempted to kill himself over and over until he managed to success in taking his life away.
naruto uzumaki It's not al that great an adaptation though. I saw Aoi Bungaku first and I have to say, the manga b=is by faaaaaaaarrrr more imoressive.
I might do a review of this myself, I have read the novel, the manga, and the 3 episode series of Aoi Bungaku. My personal favorite is the Novel, darker than the Anime and Manga combined! Good review Chibi, give the novel a shot if you can.
Hey, Chibi. Have you ever read Oyasumi Punpun? I think this, Oyasumi Punpun, and Aku no Hana are the best psychological/seinen mangas there are out there.
It's kinda true in a way that humans can be the biggest assholes in the history of the universe and that saying alot when you read these kinds of stories
Chibi Reviews Chibi, I just sat down and used 3 hours to read this, and omg what i can say is the manga is so realistic and I cannot even handle what has happened to the main character. The story is so depressing and it is totally fucked up... But I really glad to read this manga, it is so entertaining, thx for ur recommendation. Definitely gonna recommend this to everyone but wow.. the ending is so fucked up
Just curious Chibi. Are u far into Tower of God or taking it slowly? I want to know because I also started reading with u XD Have u gone past chp20 (where I am ^^;)? This series sure is reminding me of HxH with the hunter exam and Tower of heaven arcs mixed together. Loving it.

Oh man, Chibi you finally got to this one, huh? The novel is a classic . Nearly every Japanese reads the novel at one point in their life
Cool
Why are the depressing ones always the best
Shunelett Myintthu because they usually have this huge degree of realism that instantly gets you invested in the story .. reading about stuff that could happen in real life affects us more than reading fantasy
Human doesn't like depression but they're living in it... so subconsciously they're attractive to it...
Shunelett Myintthu cuz we’re edgy
Just like Texhnolyze
In the end, wether we want to accept it or not humanity is a complete mess, though some of us live with peace and happiness through out our life, there are also those who expirience and get to see first hand just how evil and disgusting we can truly be, and unless we begin to strive for change, and instead continue on fearing it, we will never evolve into something better, and will always remain shrouded in drakness.... like the fools we are.
Excalibur That's deep
Heavens Crow Very realistic and deep. Humans are imperfect beings.
we need more compassion

There's a book called No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai. The anime and manga are based on it.
usaPyon ウサぴょん ...and then, Bungou stray dogs appeared.....
Dream Drawer and everyone started loving Dazai.
Is this the junji Ito manga?
@@bennichol1510 No the junji ito manga is all white and all in one
@@dylano473 wait so another mangaka did no longer human as well or is this one not based on the ozamu Dazai novel?
The fucked up thing is that the author commited suicide shortly after the first book was published
dawolfman Holy shit really?
Chibi Reviews yeah check the wiki man en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Longer_Human
dawolfman Damn.............
Yup was sad too. Great sad book.
That is Really sad
I own all 3. I cried. Really hit close to home, and it does a good job of really conveying the nature of humanity.
I don't read manga... But I love Osamu Dazai... So...
If u haven't heard of this yet I recommend reading Oyasumi punpun which is a series with similar themes to no longer human, except a lot more faqed up.
I just finished Punpun a few days ago, really good but depressing.
Enma Ai Just gave it a quick look, definitely going to read it soon.
I made the mistake of reading that series as soon as I finished the semester. Needless to say I became depressed as soon as I gained happiness from being on break. It was good though
Yusuke Urameshi Its definitely worth it
Pun Pun is the best Seinen manga ever
A depressing manga about life?
Maybe I should step out and give it a try
I still start reading it now
Natasha Newwonders Buy this manga ASAP. It's such an important story.
Ozamu Dazai's life was really interesting and tragic. I think this novel was meant to be kind of an autobiography and is actually the last novel he published before commiting suicide after several suicide attempts in previous years.
isn't this mainly an autobiography of the original novel author Osamu Dazai?
Yup
i recommend you to watch ''Aoi bungaku series'', the first 4 episodes are the adaptation of the novel, produced by studio MADHOUSE & Takeshi Obata(Death note, Bakuman) did the art!!
Light Yagami character design is written all over the first MC. Cute and as evil as fuck
Similar to NHK? Sounds like a more deep version of NHK, not plot wise but how it depicts humans. Sounds interesting, will definitely check it out.
Awesome!!! so glad you got around to reading this so soon! its one of my favourite manga's. And once I learned about the author, (Osamu dazai), it gave a whole other dimension to the story. Great review. =)

If your looking for another series that features a main character like Oba, Chibi, I recommend reading Shamo whenever you get the chance.
10/10 review, absolutely loved this fucking book. Unreal experience, wish I could re read this for the first time so bad man
Hey Chibi, I wanted to ask you if you've ever read Homunculus and Ichi the Killer. If not, I recommend you to do so they are really incredible manga.
