Your video is great. I’m glad you’re talking about this because it was something that also greatly upset me as there were times where I was also briefly homeless. If Shannon would have maybe used a different word, something like nomad like you said, I think people would have had a very different interpretation of what was going on.
They wanted to save money and didn’t like the “culture” in California because there were people from all walks of life there and I guess that pissed them off? What also offended me was at the end of Anthony’s video, he essentially talked about how if you don’t give up everything else for music/art then you’re a sell out and just doing it for the money… ironic.
One of Shannon’s lolcow posts brags about how she “probably makes at least 20k a month” and how she must have “moved into a much nicer place” because she hasn’t been complaining about noisy neighbors. It infuriated me.
Thank you for sharing this. My heart was with you throughout the video. ❤️

Shannon continously used her homelessness to get her fans to feel bad for her. she brought it up so much and I remember watching her videos and feeling so sorry for her and her situation. she victimized herself and made no clarification that her homelessness was by choice. she fully allowed and encouraged her fans to believe she was suffering from a forced and sudden loss of shelter, and thats rly fucked up/manipulative. I can't believe she was able to get away with this shit for so long and I'm glad she's finally losing her platform/influence.
edit: I'm being told she did clarify that she was homeless by choice in some videos, but that still doesn't excuse the way she used her homelessness to manipulate her fanbase into feeling bad for her.

Same, I found her channel while looking for content I could relate to while homeless. Though I do remember a few red flags popping up, but chalking it up to “Well, everyone’s situation is different”. Such as her talking about having a vehicle to live in, and giving advice about getting a gym membership so she could shower. Meanwhile, I couldn’t even afford a dollar menu meal, and was getting sore throats constantly from having to brush my teeth in public restrooms.
What's worse is I distinctly remember thinking "Wow, how come everyone else seems to know what they're doing except for me, even other homeless people? How come she can afford a car to live in but I can't? What am I doing wrong, I wish I was as put together as her". The irony.

I just want to point out, depending on where you are or what gyms are in your area, you might be able to get a membership for 10-20$. Homelessness is messy, scary and not always a one size fits all scenario, so depending on the specifics of your situation, that advice isn't completely unsound. Ive got my own experiences, and unfortunately, I've met a lot of homeless ppl, its sad to say how many of them have jobs but live in tents or cars cuz they can't afford anything long term. That being said, misrepresenting nomadic life as Homelessness is deplorable, but I'm not surprised at this point as it seems misrepresenting things is a personality trait of Shannon's.

This may be very true of places in the us, and im definitely not trying to undermine the point about being understanding about peoples situations. I will say where shannon was at the time it is very expensive to have a monthy gym membership, especially one nice/big enough to have showers. Portland/Tigard oregon dont have the highest cost of living, but some things like rent and gyms tend to be very expensive comparatively. So for her experiences it was unlikely to be a cheap option.

Yeah, I found out through this video here and I'm honestly hurt by how she lied about it for sympathy. I was homeless as a teenager because of toxic parents kicking me out and it was terrible and I almost died because of it.

Unfortunately creepshow deleted this storytime but from my memory there was a storytime that was like "homeless christmas storytime" (that is not the exact title if anyone else remembers this let me know).
It was a storytime where she discussed a cute/wholesome moment between her and her husband while they were homeless during Christmas. In the beginning she talked about how they both made the decision to move out of California and to Oregon and live out of their cars so they can save money (because according to her they had a lot of debt so it was smarter for them to live out of their car until they can make rent). There was also a part where she said it was hard being homeless but because her husband was with her it made the experience manageable something like that. It disappointed me knowing she led people on saying she was homeless without any choice even thought she claimed many times it was a decision her and her husband made.
This was an older storytime and I think she deleted it early on before everything went downhill (along with the other old video "why lolcow helps artist").

She definitely made it seem like she was in a very bad situation. This pisses me off so much. I also know for a fact that most people who choose to live in a van when they can afford a house are fine. My little brother lives in his van because he loves hiking and thinks it is more convenient. He literally has said how privileged he is to have this life style. Shannon made it seem like she was starving, that she built her way to the top because of RUclips.
I am also now curious if anybody ever won her monthly iPad or 1k giveaways

This isn't fanart, this is what's considered a hate piece. If I was drawing it with positive connotations and posting it anywhere without context, that would be fanart. This is negative connotation and the only place you can see this artwork is via this youtube video. If shannon uses this artwork in any sense, i'll be asking her to take it down, and if she doesnt, i'll have to take it to more serious places. It's not fanart. Also, I needed a thumbnail because the artist of shannon's original pfp is very uncomfortable with their art being used everywhere.

Welcome to youtube :) (/j) No, it's not. At the time my video was uploaded, mine was the only one that I could find talking solely about this issue and only this issue. If you'd seen other videos before this that were only about this issue that talked more about it than like, 2 minutes, then i didn't see it, but no, this isn't clickbait because this is one of the first videos talking about it.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐧'𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬!
I wasn't making light of or trying to downplay any trauma she might have gotten. I have nothing against Van life, however what she was doing, marketing it as homelessness, was completely false and it severely hurts actual people who were/are homeless. I don't doubt she has trauma from it, but that doesn't make her lying about what her situation was any less. Homelessness implies a lack of money and an urgency about the situation. She had no lack of money and there was no urgency to her van life. I respect van life people as long as they dont market it as homelessness.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐲𝐦 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞/𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 (𝟏𝟎$ 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡)
You guys have to remember that 1: Planet fitnesses aren't in every town, and 2: when you're homeless and living off the streets 10$ can make or break you. That could be a desperately needed meal, or payment for somewhere to sleep, or for anything else important. 10$ on a gym membership is still ridiculous, when you could use that ten bucks to be able to stay in a shelter and shower there and get food. You guys are thinking very privileged, in that 10$ is nothing, but to a homeless person, 10$ could be their entire life. Not to mention, most gym memberships have things in place specifically to keep homeless people from using their facilities, ranging anywhere from asking for an address, to outright refusing service to people are homeless, or even might look dirty. It's not that easy folks!
I'll add more here if I see any frequent stuff picking up, or ask me direct questions here and i'll try to respond to them i guess!

as another person who has been homeless, i totally agree. finding out she _chose_ to be homeless made me extremely disappointed, and angry.
i was illegally evicted by my "aunt" (she was my mother's now ex best friend) 2 months after me, my mother and sister left our home state to live with her after something awful that happened to her. luckily, we had enough money to bounce around cheap hotels for a bit, then we lived shortly with some family, then took our remaining belongings and headed back to our home state. we were once again stuck in a cheap hotel, in which we lived in for a few months until extremely luckily my dad's roommate was moving out of their shared small apartment about a month later, and he told us we could stay with him. since then we've been living in this apartment. we had a park that we found and knew we would live from our car in if we no longer had the money to stay in the hotel.
i acknowledge that i was extremely lucky in the end, but the fact still stands that shannon both calling her experience "being homeless" and using it to deflect criticism is disgusting. the trauma that comes from being homeless isnt a fucking aesthetic, being homeless itself isnt a fucking aesthetic, and it disappointed me when i heard she and anthony chose that for themselves. i agree that they couldve afforded to rent an apartment, buy a house, or even move away from california. it just,, the whole situation is icky, and her stories that she told about being homeless made me feel like i wasnt alone- and finding all this out honestly had made me feel really tricked.
i enjoyed your video and art, and im really sorry you had to go through all of that.
    i hope you have a good day/night.

Saying youre ‘homeless’ while living out of your can and not having an address is literally interpreted but if you planned for it for a year, spent so much money getting ready for it, and most likely put all your furniture and belongings in a storage unit then you’re *exploiting* the connotations of what homelessness means in reality. They did it for the likes, the lolz, and the money-money they likely didn’t need. No.

Friend, why are you drawing her, stop you're making her more beautiful than she actually was on the inside--
I never heard about van life, but I always have been bothered why she keeps bringing up her homeless experience to deflect later criticisms. I was never homeless so I never could share my input on it-- but I didn't understand how her homeless experience absolves her (at the time) present conflicts. If anything, her experience would make her more appreciative of her audience-- and the many times she refuses to apologize or manipulate things in her favor (ex: addressing Tobi's video, lying about Hopeless Peaches, never addressing misinfo), I didn't feel as if I, as a viewer then, was respected, in contrast to how a lot of viewers respect her. It felt manipulative and dishonest and I'd rather have a content creator who apologizes when they do bad takes rather than one who would continue as if nothing happened.

It really does always rub me wrong when people claim homelessness when it’s not reality. I fled my home on my 16th birthday and lived with my partner ever since. I was escaping such severe abuse that I was more inclined to sleeping on the street than in a bed in that house. I do not consider that a choice. Planning to live in a car, in order to save money is not homelessness. Homelessness is not vain sacrifice. It is not knowing where you’re sleeping tomorrow. It’s not knowing when you’re going to eat. Not being able to fill out forms because you don’t have an address to begin with so you can’t progress up to a way to get a fucking address in the first place.
I was lucky. I had my partner’s family, and then a refuge for youth, and then a friend to crash on their couch. It was rough, but I know I was lucky to have a shower, a place to wash my clothes and usually food.
Right now, I’m still struggling. I know that tonight I will be going hungry, and that tomorrow will be the same. I’m still very lucky and blessed that I have a roof and many other necessities that you don’t realise are so important. I have clean sheets and shoes, a car outside, hot water, etc. just don’t have enough to fully cover everything, but I do have a home.
Hearing someone CHOOSE to want that sort of anxiety and fear and stress? It just puzzles me. Reminds me of a girl I knew. Loved having the worst, most abysmal sob story she could; it was like a competition that she was in with herself. She cried wolf about things until they happened, then let things continue to spiral worse. I know I’m harsh, but she was someone who was very toxic with little regard for anyone around her, trying to help her or not. She copied details of trauma from those around her. Found ways to get into situations for the story of it all. Made it romantic, tragic, something to throw in to shut up anyone who criticised her, and frankly it just sounds like the same with Shannon. Defending yourself with tragedy isn’t a defence. It’s just a shitty way to guilt someone.

some hygiene homelessness advice: If you stay near a fire station, typically during the summer they leave out free water bottles in a cooler. If you can't afford to get water bottles via the store, use those. Also, baby wipes are good to use when you can't shower, but keep those PCB: Pits, Chest, Bottom. You can always use store and library bathrooms in order to quickly freshen up. For those with curly hair: keep your hair in a pineapple style, but take it down and shake it out every day to not cause matting.
There's more but thoughts are slurring. Stay safe

Being a mom, not having food for my kids or a safe place for them to sleep is one of my greatest fears. I’m glad you and your family are now in a better place.

Nobody "plans" or "chooses" to be homeless (for the majority).
Also, homeless people aren't really concerned about the "culture" of an area, just where they will sleep or where the next meal comes from.
I've had some strange, unconventional dwellings in my past, but I've never experienced the hardship of true homelessness.

Their was a time in my life where we were living with my grandmother. I wouldn't call it homelessness but we didn't have our own home. We were in the process of building a new home and our lease ran out leaving us with our grandmother. The fact that someone would choose to live on the street makes me sick. When i heard about this i was shocked and angry. I was sleeping on a air mattress and i was lucky to have that. i used to like creepshow art and now i feel sick even knowing of her existence

When I went homeless with my family it's bc we literally could not find a place to live. For months and months they looked for a place to live. application after application, denied, denied, denied. We were kicked out of the house we were living in bc we were renters meaning we had 1 year to live there. Once our lease was up we got the boot. We stayed in hotels for awhile (December 3rd to December 21st I believe) and it was hard. Packing up every couple of days to find a new hotel. My parents having to use all the tips they got from work that day so me and my siblings could have a bed to sleep in. And then there's Shannon. Saying "oH wElL I WaS hOmElEsS...." But she fucking choose to be homeless... W T F

I was homeless as a kid, we stayed at a homeless shelter and were very lucky to not loose a lot of sentimental stuff. However I still had a lot of trouble with it and I'm lucky in that I was a blissfully unaware kid and my parents were able to frame it in a good light and hid how much trouble it really was.
Edit: homelessness isn't a cute lifestyle, it sucks and it's hard on adults and even harder on children.

Thank you for broaching this topic. This whole weird episode of everyone's livelihood involved in the situation has only shown her to be a legitimate narcissistic sociopath whose only regard was acting in her own interests, at the painful expensive everyone around her. I hope but whatever outcome is the end result of all these events, that everyone she has harmed comes out on top for it at her expense like she planned to do towards everyone else in her life.

I'm grateful you talked about this! When I heard about this part in Emily's video, it was upsetting. I never was homeless, and can only imagine the hardships that come with it, but being without a home by choice is a different story then, if it was involuntary, I'm fairly sure about that.
Anyone can live like they want. What Shannon went through while living in her car was certainly not easy, and if I wasn't so sure she was out for extra sympathy points, I'd wonder why she couldn't have been honest. It would have been very interesting to hear about her experiences.
So, really I'm glad you talked about this. Hearing about this from the perspective of someone that was homeless was something I was hoping for a bit.
Thank you a lot, stay safe and well!

Imagine how privileged one must be to CHOOSE to be homeless. And PREP for it. I agree, it's minimalism and a nomadic lifestyle. Not homelessness. Insulting to those of us who've been there.

I think Shannon said specifically (or maybe it was just context clues) that she got a gym membership at a planet fitness, which is $10-20/month. Granted, even that could be outside the budget for a lot of homeless people, but just thought it was worth noting.
Still, I agree with everything else in this video because I also felt misled after hearing Anthony's version of events. She always admitted that homelessness was a choice for her, but made it seem like it was a spur of the moment decision and because her home life was terrible (as if it was a choice but barely).
I'm glad you're speaking about this and if you're able, I'd like to hear where else Shannon was wrong in her homelessness tips. It could help correct people that are actually facing that and don't have a choice.

As someone who aspires to live a full-time in a van, when i get older i could move into any of the affordable apartments in my area, but i want to live in a van because i find it fun to travel. Creep show treats the fact that she chose to live in a car like its so sad when actually it’s probably more fun than living in a house.

I've been nearly homeless in an uninhabitable slum. I washed my clothes by filling a cooler with water and soap and stomping my clothes like grapes. Bathed with a cup in the sink. Went to bed early to skip dinner. Homeless is not a spartan aesthetic. I had to go to the library for internet as well, so I believed her. She's honestly rly sick and needs a lot of professional help.

sorry for your experiences, and this is a good point to touch on, with all the other chaos it kind of gets lost. But i dont think anyone, anywhere, to my knowledge, said that shannon and anthony were homeless for the aesthetic, until here in your video. I know there are people who do that, go nomadic, gutter punks, squatters etc, where it is part of a look or style or aesthetic, but in the videos i watched, it seems those two numbskulls did it for financial reasons and idk, like a challenge of some sorts. just wanted to point that out.

Hope you read this! This is not to defend Shannon nor her husband but I use to live in San Jose/Bay Area. Anthony is right. The rent is atrocious. There is a lot of homeless people in San Jose alone. I know some of them and they were all working individuals who can’t afford the rent. They have gym membership in Planet Fitness which is 10 dollars a month. I know this because I was a Planet Fitness member before the pandemic. They were not homeless by choice either. As I said, the rent is sky high. The cause of a small bedroom is 800/month minimum. But the jobs are in Silicon Valley so that’s kinda of a Catch 22. I would also like to clarify, that although Bay Area is an expensive place to live, we’re very diverse here. Anthony speaking about “no dominant culture” sound so racist to me. He mention Campbelle which use to be a “white area” neighborhood. He sounds like a deuce. Not all Bay Areans are like that. Glad he and Shannon are not here anymore.

As someone who lived in hotels, and had to sleep in parks very rarely this is so gross, I've only recently gotten comfortable calling my situation back then being homeless because of how lucky I knew I was to not have to be on the street all the time and this honestly makes me take a step back again to look at it because of stuff like this making homelessness look like a choice people make idk

I don't know about this one, shannon doesn't really deserve any benefit of the doubt at this point but we don't actually know the details of it from her perspective. If your deep in debt with garbage credit and can't make money faster then interest accumulates, living out of your car may legit feel like your only viable option. Assuming she could 'easily' get out of it and even have bought a house based just on the general idea of it being a choice and her bf having music equipment is odd, tho i think what bothers me is the idea that a choice means it must not be real. Is someone not really homeless if they could live with family but won't out of shame or feeling like a burden? Is it only real if there's no other options at all? It doesn't justify using the experience to deflect general criticism and doesn't erase all the other shit that is more proven but maybe when all the choices are bad people can choose to be homeless and its still homelessness not just "minimalist" or whatever? I donno, i've never been homeless but living in my car to not burden my family is something i've thought about a lot when depression hits me.

I love this video, it was very well put together and thought out. I can’t believe that there aren’t more people who are covering the situation who aren’t touching on the fact that her and her husband chose to be homeless purely for the aesthetic. There are other ways to save money, if you don’t wanna do it through a bank by a safe and stick it in your house and put 20 or 30 bucks in it every week or every month. It is absolutely disgusting that they would glamorize a lifestyle that is not a choice for so many people.

It upsets me that a RUclipsr who I loved watching every time she uploaded just ruined her fanbase, she's messed up. The fact she chose the homeless route is her fault. Everything that's happened to her by now is her fault. I hate to see someone who made decent content just get torn down, especially by her own actions. She's lost me and so many others as fans.

Okay WTF! I'm glad you spoke about this!
Me and my family NEARLY became homeless 10 years ago and I cannot stress enough how terrifying it truely is to be at the brink of losing shelter! You never wanna be homeless! There's a lot of dangers out there!
I'm wishing y'all whom been homeless or are homeless the best! And for Shannon and Fartony (his name is a trigger for me so just roll with this), I hope you know that this isn't something you get to choose! You both took a life-threatening situation and made it into an "aesthetic"! Good for you! /sarcasm I hope you both learn that homelessness hurts a lot of people around the world!
