OMG! That lady was hilarious. I had to rewind and watch it again because after that lady showed up I stopped paying attention to you. Great video and you sir are a professional. I don't think I could of kept going. I would have asked her to leave.
Another great video Bill. All of your videos have been so helpful with my venture into creating still shots and videos with my DJI Phantom 4. Keep them coming :)
Thanks for another awesome informational video... I have never cared to much about vids and or pics.... Well I care but never quite understood all the meanings of each setting and honestly it seems overwhelming at times.... lol. All the time... Do ya have any suggestions on where a guy can learn about video and picture taking ??? That’s like the Dos for dummies books. User friendly info. Funny I have now 2 day old P4P V2 and very nice digital cameras but never learned basic pic taking and trust me you can tell... I’ve messed up on some pic moments I’ll never get back...Thanks again and keep doing what your doing because it really helps old guys like me. I can fix any piece of equipment and Hyd, pneumatics, plumbing, electrical but can’t get a decent vid or pic to save my soul. Take care ttul!
In regards to that lady walking up to you. That is literally every time I fly my drone LOL. God for bid I shoot a video like that teaching someone how to use a drone. Keep up the good work I enjoy your videos.
Bill, how many stops of light do you feel you can recover from either end, obviously not completely blown out or floored, when recording in D-Log? Also, have you noticed any aliasing when capturing video with full sensor (4:3)? I ask the about the latter because it's well documented with 4K and 2.7K recording on other similar cameras. Thanks!
As always very nice presentation. Thank you Bill. To be honest it is hilarious (it happens to me also quite a few times) to attract curious people asking whatever comes in their mind when I am flying... I remember once someone said if it is possible someone with this drone to travel up to the International Space Station.... (crazy people!!!).
I found this very helpful, I also like how you explained your reasons for using RAW or JPEG. What are your thoughts about these ND filters that are adjustable (ND 2-400)? Are they any good and how do they work?
They are good (potentially) by their nature you are putting two ND filters together and rotating them to change their configuration and let more or less light through. With this, you can get moire patterns with some. I would do some research, then when you get it point your phantom at some patterns fabric or brick wall or something while you rotate the filter and see if you get any of the effect.
Hi Bill, Can you do a video about flying the Phantom over deep water and if you have any tips on the best settings to use for the same. It terrifies me at the moment :)
Neither did I! She got a freebie! She was right out of the frame the entire video, and this lens I was only about 12 - 18 inches from the camera, she was about the same from me. No personal space boundaries for her!
Hey Bill! Thanks for the vid it is very usefull. I have a couple of questions. 1.- If my frame rate is 29.97, do you recommend to use twice the speed for the shutter too? 2.- At 2:33 you write that the custom settings you changed were actually the custom settings of the Vivid color style.... does this mean that the style settings for the D-Log color setting were on default?... Thanks in advance for the help! You answered many good questions already!
Bill, I like your no-nonsense, informative style. Thanks for getting me started with the Phantom 4 on the right foot. I've had it for 2 weeks now. I am a filmmaker, shoot D-log and have all settings at -2. After my initial awe of every shot the Phantom produces, I started to look more critical at the footage and have noticed 2 major drawbacks: mushy trees/grass and what appears to be chromatic aberration. Most notably reddish/purple fringing across water surfaces. I guess the mushiness is something we have to live with but have you noticed any purple/red and green fringing as well? It can be quite strong, on the surf of a wave for instance, or more subtle like a haze over a large surface.
thanks for this walk-through. I am trying to decide if I want the 3 Professional or 4. DO you know about both? If I can get away with getting the three then I can buy some other stuff for my business. my budget is $1600
+Guardian's Creed look at the 3 as just not having obstacle avoidance (and some design changes, mostly appearance) mostly a bit quieter, a better battery, obstacle avoidance and subjectively it has a better external appearance. Not much difference camera wise. You should feel Comfortable saving the couple hundred bucks and putting elsewhere. If you were talking about the phantom 4 pro vs it that is a whole new ball game and a significant difference. Hope that helps!
Hello Bill: I would be interested in seeing a video that shows examples of all the different frame rates. Perhaps seeing the same scene, but each one is at a different frame rate.
Chinese old ladies are always curious about everything due to their low education background, but they have no bad intention though, pretty funny to watch them. Great videos and very helpful, cheers and continue
Im 13 years old and bought a phantom 4 with my own money. I almost always fly after school, which leaves the sun really bright in one directoin and regular in the other. I saw the movie on youtube that should not, and apparently this exchange.Guy exchanged four times before he came good . Should I replace it or do not care? I like to catch the next giveaway :P I'll be grateful for the advice. And one more thing, apparently a lot of Phantoms have this problem anyone had similar? sorry for my English
I haven't seen this problem across any so far, there is at time a slight whine, but nothing major. If you are having issues I would get in contact with support.
You should have said "um ma'am, I am filming a porno, so please either get naked or find some towels please...". But seriously, I love your videos. I'm an avid drone pilot and teach people who want to get their FAA remote pilot license so that they can fly their drones for commercial purposes. Btw, if your videos are monetized, make sure you have a FAA remote pilot license. The fines for operating a drone and making money from it are $10k per incident. Two well known videographers just recently received FAA warnings because their RUclips page is monetized and the are licensed pilots. I am also a regular commercial pilot so I know the FAA quite well. All someone has to do is report you and your videos are all the evidence they need to nail you. Government at its finest! Take care.
The title ART was the name of the programmer. ART CHANG, It's funny how when the camera makes the footage pop and colorful it's too much, but when the guy doing "color grading" makes it pop It's creativity.
Is that for real, his name was art? Ha. For grading, depending on what you are doing any type of grading may be appropriate. The point isn't how you, or Fred or I grade it's that shooting in a flat color profile gives you the option and latitude to then grade how you see fit, and go back later to that footage and do it again, and again, etc. If you are shooting in something like Vivid and you want to go a different direction all the tweaking the software has already is going to limit what you can do with the footage.
WOW The people walking up asking about the drone. Most of the time it's ok but it does distract from the experience for me. Hopefully the lady subscribed!
Rotciv lol that's why I launch mine from my backyard. Can't get as close to the cool creek right by my house since I am worried about hitting something since I can't see the drone but I hate people staring at me lol.
6:00 Hidden feature of a DJI Phantom 4, make a lot of friend, intentionally! (Happens to me all the time!) PS: I PM you on Instagram about a couple of questions. Sorry, didn't find your email at that time.
Hey Adrien - I'll answer you back soon, quick answer though is that he doesn't worry about it and just does it until someone says not to. For me, that's not an option. For anyone reading this, Adrien had asked me about someone that fly's their drone in their videos all the time at 800' + and how do they get away with it.
I'm just really curious to know how many people do register their drone etc etc. Because its always the people who do everything correctly (registered, fly safe, etc) that get in trouble for a small incident where other just do whatever and still don't have issues. There is also the question of monetizing videos on RUclips where drones are used and so, do we basically need the E333 from the FAA for that! Anyway, we can debate about things like that for hours.
I'll be registering once I get mine. It's hard not to when it's only 5 bucks. However, I think it's kinda silly for anyone to think registering is gonna protect anyone's safety or stop me from flying higher than recommended. I like to look at the history of car accidents and safety for insight. People disobey the laws, speed, and drive drunk all the time. There's nothing anyone can do about that... it's impossible to control what someone else does. Eventually car manufacturers add safety features to their products, whether it's mandated by law or from their own decision. That, combined with traffic guideline enforcement is really all we can do as a society... and it works fairly well. I'm not sure how that progression ruined anything for other people. Right now, with drones, we don't have much guideline enforcement yet. If eventually we do, I'm okay with that. Nothing changes for me. I'll be used to flying safely already. It'll really only affect the people who aren't. And it's not like the built-in safety features of our cars are that restrictive to worry about. We're not forced to wear seatbelts or blow into breathalyzers before our cars will start. And I still have the freedom to drive faster than the speed limit when my judgement indicates that it's safe and when I've accepted the risk of getting a speeding ticket or crashing before doing so. If drones start falling from the sky and hurting innocent people, then I can see a call for stricter laws and licensing. But until that happens, I'm not even gonna pay attention... let alone worry.
The purpose of the registration is that you have to carry a little printed card with your FA# in your wallet while you operate the drone (which also lists all the basic rules like 5 miles radius to an airport, not above stadium, etc etc), PLUS, we are supposed to have the FA# printed on the drone too. I used my Dymo and made a little sticker with my phone number too! I hope people do the right thing... the FA# is just, as an example, if your drone crash into an airplane or something like that, well... they can find you now. I understand the rules, I'm ok with it but you'll see that one day they gonna try to make an example of someone who had a small accident and they will all scream "Drone!" Side story, I was close to the Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, 2 weekends ago, in a small grass area. I had a park ranger come to me and shouted at me to put my drone down. She said we can't fly in Federal Park (which, I wasnt aware I was on a tiny green piece of land owned by the Fed. I apologized and put it away.) I still got the shots I wanted (its on my channel) but still, she was nice and told me that I could get fine for operating my drone there and that I should go to one of the streets around instead (which was like 50 feet away). A cop was also walking around with his dog and was reacting to the ranger's comment "Oh really? we cannot? but this thing is awesome!"
John MacNeill the pan shots were definitely too fast if that’s what I was demo’ing, etc. I was looking for areas to show color styles, not anything about panning. All the same though John, I really appreciate the time taken to watch and give me feedback
That woman. She's not weird. She's just being chinese. No seriously! It's a normal chinese trait. They have no sense of personal space. I follow a youtube channel (ADVchina) with two non chinese guys and when they are on the streets talking to the camera random people will come up to them, talk to them or just stand in the shot.
Great video!! That woman shows the stupidity and how nosey human beings are. Stupid in the sense that obviously ur doin somethin important on camera and she can't realize it, then when she does realize it, she's staying in the frame. Smh!!
lol that lady tho! 'ma'am I'm working' *continues to stare and hang out in the general area*
She was hilarious
+BillNicholsTV too funny, good video though! and nice intro.
I have watched every video you have made, AND they just get BETTER, and BETTER every time. Thanks a lot
+Richard Hada Pine Barren Modelers My thought exactly Richard
Thanks guys!
Uhhm ma'am he's working...you're interrupting our class! LOL
Wish I was smart enough to understand all that you say, but just keep up the pace and I'll keep watching. Many many thanks for your efforts.
Of course you are! Just get out there and work with it!
Excellent Job Bill going to watch all of your vids...
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your assistant, it helped bring some real life to the video.
haha - she was hilarious
That lady had me cracking up..lmao.. great work very informative.
OMG! That lady was hilarious. I had to rewind and watch it again because after that lady showed up I stopped paying attention to you. Great video and you sir are a professional. I don't think I could of kept going. I would have asked her to leave.
I think she is the weirdo
Great info. Watched a few vids now. Subscribed!
Double thumbs up! Super informative
Thanks Adam!
I love how you handled the walk-on guest! :)
You are such a pro. You were not phased by her at all. Well done man 👍🏻 that was hilarious 😂
Thanks Max - she was great
BillNicholsTV she's clearly a fan lol 😜
Please keep up the good work really enjoying your tips!!
Thanks Woody!
Another great video Bill. All of your videos have been so helpful with my venture into creating still shots and videos with my DJI Phantom 4. Keep them coming :)
Again, thank you for such great content. Being new to photography this is very helpful in understanding what the settings do and when/how to use them.
Thanks!
Excellent video, just what I was looking for
Thanks for sharing, keep doing what your doing...
great video always great to get tips

haha
Thanks Bill. Would love it if you could post a few RAW stills for folks to play with in post.
Great work, Bill! Love your videos!
Awesome video showing all the modes. Your videos should be called "Bill Nichols Phantom 4 Manual"!
LOL!!!!, love how you kept your cool. She is your groupie
yOy
Great videos man, noticed you are using a ND filter, what rating of ND do you use most often? Like ND6, ND 8 etc.
Thanks!
wow!! great shots!
Thanks!
Great video going to try these settings out on my new flight!
Glad to hear!
Great tutorial Bill, subscribed :-)
Thanks Dean!

haha - that sounds about right! Thanks for watching
Yep. Professional even in adversity! :) Great videos. Thanks.
Great video! Helped me a lot!
Glad to hear!
Very good!
Thanks!
Bill who's your new best mate hahaha xD every video I'm watching I'm learning something new, keep up the good work!
That;s my friend Betty - met he that day. By the way, you should watch the new giveaway video, you might have a reason to like it.
+Bill Nichols just watched it now. Can't believe it ^^ I never win anything lol

Vivid looks great but that doesnt exist anymore, any recommendation for a colorfull setting for a non editor like me? Like to hear your thoughts!
Good Info, Keep up the Good Work!
o
That lady cracked me up lol, but another excellent video and it definitely helped me learn a few new things.
Hi Bill,
Can you do a video about flying the Phantom over deep water and if you have any tips on the best settings to use for the same. It terrifies me at the moment :)
Great idea - will put on the list of requests!
+Bill Nichols as always thank you
Great video. I didnt know you were holding live classes in the park lol.
Neither did I! She got a freebie! She was right out of the frame the entire video, and this lens I was only about 12 - 18 inches from the camera, she was about the same from me. No personal space boundaries for her!
great video by the way!!
Thanks Duke!
Hey Bill! Thanks for the vid it is very usefull. Thanks in advance for the help! You answered many good questions already!
Shutter should almost always be twice the frame rate for the smoothest / most natural video
Great video! 👍🏻
Great info, thanks
Welcome!
Did DJI remove Vivid from the color styles? I cant find it on the Phantom 4 Pro settings?
rjackjames same
Great tutorial thanks!
ppp
Bill, I like your no-nonsense, informative style. Thanks for getting me started with the Phantom 4 on the right foot. I've had it for 2 weeks now. I am a filmmaker, shoot D-log and have all settings at -2. It's true. You are no fluff, you get right to it. Thanks.

Hello Bill: I would be interested in seeing a video that shows examples of all the different frame rates. Perhaps seeing the same scene, but each one is at a different frame rate.
Thanks David! Will look at that
phantomology 101 class in shesh
Bill, you should invite your new friend in for the Lightroom tutorial , Ha !
Oh man - we would just sit there for an hour trying to talk slowly to each other in hopes that somehow makes us more understandable to on another.
great video thanks!
Thanks Yoni!
Hey Bill where do you colorize your videos_ thanks for all the info
I use speed grade by Adobe.
Chinese old ladies are always curious about everything due to their low education background, but they have no bad intention though, pretty funny to watch them. Great videos and very helpful, cheers and continue
She was great ;) pretty funny
Nice work! Anyway you would make a tutorial video on editing (specifically import and export settings)
Also any compression settings you use to achieve that great Phantom quality!
Will put on the list, appreciate the feedback
Im 13 years old and bought a phantom 4 with my own
money. I almost always fly after school, which leaves the sun really bright in one directoin and regular in the other. What would be the best settings for very bright sunlight? My only problem is if i turn the quad copter to face a diffrent directoin it is super dark and i end up usually only flying in one directoin, beacuse i dont want to edit out, and color grade the really dark spots since i dont have the most time.
great video ... big help to beginners like me :) ....cheers
Glad to hear it was helpful to you!
What setting would be the best if I wanted to colour grade
I find that this video is kind of dark. I guess your using an ND filter. However the information is great. Thanks for the videos.
great videos I have the p4 to great machine learning video work I am sometimes in the videos purple streaks onscreen is that interference or my settings can u help me thks
good thanks man!
Glad it was helpful!
What are your photos like, mine tend to come out grainy? I am trying to figure out how to eliminate the grain without having to edit.
Look at your iso , what you are shooting in size wise as well to start
in D-Log mode you don't need a ND filter ? i got the 4 , 8 and 16 NDPL filters
You need an ND filter based on what ISO, Shutter, Aperture you want. The ND filter is there to enable you to get the proper exposure at the settings that you want.
Good to know sir
Great Video thanks for the help. Looks like there young lady was smitten 😀
Haha - seems so
so, vivid color mode 0 sharpness, -2 , -2 contrast ? :D
Man! That lady make me like you video a little more! auhauhhua very funny. That's why I am subscribing.
Put this lady in all your videos.
Thanks for watching! She was great
an nd filter will do wonders
I just bought a Phantom, and I have a question. or gimbal may seem there any sounds when the drone is on? I like to catch the next giveaway :P I'll be grateful for the advice. And one more thing, apparently a lot of Phantoms have this problem anyone had similar? sorry for my English
I haven't seen this problem across any so far, there is at time a slight whine, but nothing major. If you are having issues I would get in contact with support.
Tomorrow I will try to record it so that everyone can see (hear), but I do not know how it will be heard on video
if you shoot RAW plus JPEG at same time that takes up more space on SD card right?
Yes it does
Haha, the lady was the vivid mode to your class.... Lol
What does it mean the M in the camera settings icon? Do you know?
M "Manual" you control all setttigs, shuttter, iso, etc
Wow thats a good neighbourhood
haha thanks
I have no idea what that lady is doing but I've been dying laughing for like 10 mins now... wow lol
You should have said "um ma'am, I am filming a porno, so please either get naked or find some towels please...". But seriously, I love your videos. how do u record ipad sceer?
There is a video for that on my channel - look for how to record DJI Go App Screen
WOW The people walking up asking about the drone. Most of the time it's ok but it does distract from the experience for me. Hopefully the lady subscribed!
Oooh looks like clonesville Irvine, CA! P.S. I go to UCI :P
Haha - total Clonesville - I actually say that Irvine is "50 Shades of Beige" if it's not beige it's not Irvine
Art mode style looked like pastel colours (not colors :p ) to me
What was that lady trying to talk to you about? lol!
No idea - she was funny, just curious. She didn' speak a word of english, it went on for about 10 minutes,
Really helpful tips thank you for the info. Said hi to the Chinese women lol.
Rotciv lol that's why I launch mine from my backyard. Can't get as close to the cool creek right by my house since I am worried about hitting something since I can't see the drone but I hate people staring at me lol.
Rotciv whoops replied to wrong person
Love the lady ..haha
The Phantom is a chick magnet ...lol
Creepy lady for the win
hahaha
saturation was -1 not sharpness
How can I win the Asian lady?
haha

Watch the video! Just went up today, next giveaway will be announced this week.
Im laughing at the lady!!!!!!!!! LORDY!!!
She was great! Just curious :)
Even for a demo I think your pan shot is too fast
John MacNeill the pan shots were definitely too fast if that’s what I was demo’ing, etc. I was looking for areas to show color styles, not anything about panning.
All the same though John, I really appreciate the time taken to watch and give me feedback
BTW I watched three of your videos and did find then easy to watch and informative. Thks.
Photo bombed. Ironic?
I feel bad, that must have been awkward making a video with her standing there.
Haha - not at all , she was hilarious
Isn't it the law that you can't fly closer than 400 feet to buildings
🚌
That lady was creepy!
poor gal ignorance is bliss
That woman. She's not weird. She's just being chinese. No seriously! It's a normal chinese trait. They have no sense of personal space.
I follow a youtube channel (ADVchina) with two non chinese guys and when they are on the streets talking to the camera random people will come up to them, talk to them or just stand in the shot.
she was great
I thought vivid was a porn company 😂
Great video!! That woman shows the stupidity and how nosey human beings are. Stupid in the sense that obviously ur doin somethin important on camera and she can't realize it, then when she does realize it, she's staying in the frame. Smh!!
Funny, here in Japan flying a drone only attracts bored old men, we never get the chicks coming around to watch..
