There is no one, NO ONE who can sing like this incredible woman. She has been giving me chills for 30 years. Never fails. She has said how much this song takes out of her every times she sings it. She is also an active Buddhist.
Wow I really like your insightfulness, sensing what’s important and knowing great art is more than entertainment and pretty pictures, it’s about the human soul, and necessary to our inner selves. Lang is incredible, powerful, and unique. You’re right: she is so humbled and moved by this audience LEAPING to give her the ovation she deserves, thanking her for a lifetime of sharing her incredible talents… it appears she’s trying not to cry openly. That they’re people/peers in the music industry makes it even greater. As awesome as this rendition is, find the Canadian broadcast video of her singing Hallelujah at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010: it’s even more breathtaking and beautiful -you won’t believe it. 😎
Thank you (for a big change in reviewers) for NOT INTERRUPTING the performance to give your opinion. kd lang spells her name in lower case. She is incredible vocalist and I subscribed to you only because you did. Not interrupt what you are reviewing. She is gay. I am too, but her gift is for everyone. Spell her like she chose so many years ago and keep NOT inserting your opinion until the performance is over. You go girl!
@@CarolKingButlermost of the time reactors have to pause and/or talk over the video because if they don’t there is a higher chance it will be taken down for copyright. If that keeps happening they can shut down the whole channel. It’s not meant to be disrespectful to the artist
What I love about your reaction video is you don't interrupt the song several times like the other reviewers I've seen. There are so many k d. Lang songs I could recommend, but I'll start off with What A Wonderful world.
Leonard Cohen was in the audience and he said it was his favorite cover of the song and she made it hers. She also sang the song at the Olympics in Vancouver.
kd lang is a great artist. she can simply sing her head off. she was put here with a great gift. we are blessed to get to listen. thanks for posting. I love what you had to say. inspiring.
ps. have a look at her official video for "pulling back the reigns". this is one of kd's early videos from back in the late 1980's. this video knocks me out because we didn't know kd really yet. there she was/is in this video. in all her androgynous/male/female/sexy elvis-y-ness. singing like the world is about to end-so we better listen. no gimmicks. no craziness. just her passion. and that voice. brilliant. check it out. (I've watched more of your vocal reactions. I love your take on things. you are an excellent reactor. thanks.)
Poetry put to an exquisite melody and beautiful orchestral accompaniment with an interpretive vocal passion that expresses the conflicted longing of the human heart.
Another beautiful k.d. song is The Valley. Just gorgeous, achingly beautiful. I think your heart will burst listening to that one too. She has a voice beyond description, and you are so right, she is a humble human being.
K d is an absolutely amazing live singer. Living in Alberta, I have seen her from the early days of her career. The standout for me was a performance on a warm star lit night outdoors in July where Hallelujah and her version of Heaven by Talking Heads were on another level. The two performances you have reacted to are definitely two of her best. Wouldn’t suggest you react to this but I recommend anyone have a look and listen to the version of Crying she does on an Australian talk show. Comes out cold, no rehearsal with the band and just nails it.
Artist like KD Lang only happens very seldom….she is one of the greatest of all time…is the whole package….the voice and her performance….incredible…she not only signs with a masterful voice …but she tells a story with her whole body ..her talent is a delight to watch and experience…
Constant craving was her biggest hit (I think). I only know the studio version. Also her singing crying with roy orbison is great to watch even if you have seen the solo version
Tash you should check out her duets with the legendary Tony Bennett. Really good stuff and if you do any live versions you can see how much they admired & respected each other and just truly enjoyed themselves singing together.

I could see you getting emotional after about the first verse. Such a beautiful voice. I am always amazed at the size of that crowd. Good you brot that up, her live performance is impeccable. I usually am not a fan of 'live' performances, but she takes the cake (along with Bobby Hatfield)
That's funny that you mentioned Bobby Hatfield along with KD Lang because I think those are two of the greatest voices ever And both of them live are incredible
Tasha, your response was right on. Her voice, delivery and humility are everything. She has an otherworldly set of pipes. Disclaimer: I’ve been a fan since the late 1980’s, and I highly recommend checking out her album Torch and Twang. The first phase. And the one that made her a radio/video staple: Ingenue. Excited to catch up on your response videos!
Many react to K.D Lang singing Hallelujah at the 2010 Olympics but this version is at the Canadian Juno Awards which is the Canadian version of the AMA's so this is all the Canadian entertainers, a real jury of her peers. There is a longer version of this clip that show the audience giving a standing ovation for a long long time!
Leonard Cohen (the famous composer) was in the audience. He wrote some different verses for the song as well, which some singers (like Jeff Buckley) omit. This final verse makes it much more than a "love hurts" song, to me: "I did my best - it wasn't much. I couldn't feel so I tried to touch. I told the truth; I didn't come to school ya. And even though it all went wrong, I'll stand before the Lord of Song with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah." The pain was worth it because what is a life without love? As some famous poet wrote, "Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
KD Lang started out in country music in Canada. She can yodel like nobody's business. I remember her in in probably the 80s are 90s and I was just so amazed at her voice. Another person I think you'd like the way they Feel a song and express it to you is then Morrison into the mystic. His style of music is kind of a jazz blues combination
@@joannenosko1663 Well...he is talking about sexual attraction and the feelings that come along with it...also the unfortunate setbacks that can come along with that kind of full force infatuation
It just doesn't get any better than that, all talent. No overproduction, screaming 'fans' with flashing cell phones. Just a grateful audience enjoying pure talent. We've been fans since "Torch & Twang".
She had been out of the limelight of the Canadian Music scene for a long time at this point and Neil Young was supposed to perform. At the 11th hour, Neil pulled out over a dispute or a conflict or something, and they got KD on almost zero notice and she did THAT.....She was emotional not only from the song (written by Leonard Cohen -a Canadian), but it was a heartfelt welcome back for that voice.
now listen to Rufus Wainright's version. both are spectacular in different ways. i'm just imagining the two of them singing it together. k.d. is amazing live. it's been over 30 years since i was front row at Massey Hall. still blown away
have watched dozens of reaction videos of her singing this song, and love it each and every time. Not sure why singers block or censor some of these videos used for reactions because honestly, they are being introduced to entirely new listeners.
Though I love a lot of versions of this song, KD Lang’s version is my favorite of them all. Leonard Cohen, the writer of the song who performed it too, was in the audience when she did a performance of the song. I think it was at an Award show. She sounds about the same in every live performance I’ve seen her do. She’s just magnificent‼️ Her voice sounds a lot like my sister’s did. R.I.P. Charlene 😇. I love and miss you sis 👩🏻🏫🥰🥰🥰‼️
You understood this. You heard the pain. This song is sung a lot in churches. I guess because all they really hear is the hallelujah. But Leonard Cohen said this song is about his divorce.
She is GREAT! There is no doubt. But I still like Lenard Cohens version better. The closest I've come to someone covering one of Mr Cohen's songs is Tom Jones video/cover of the great song "Tower Of Song".

K.D. is a very, very special person ........and so was the great Leonard Cohen !
Her version at the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremony was even better.
The World got a glimpse of how great she is, still sends shivers down my spine whenever I listen to it.
This was at the Canadian Juno Awards. The standing ovation was from her peers.

Ms. Lang can do no wrong. She is perfection. The first time I heard this I was wrecked for the rest of the day and I already had all her CDs.
KD is a "Singers Singer". What she chooses to gift us with is our privilege to hear.
Tasha, you have a wonderfully expressive face. Don't lose that!
I saw her in concert at a small venue and you could feel her voice VIBRATE through your body. It was Amazing and I just sobbed 😢
KD Lang has been overlooked way too long no one can sing like this woman no one
Aside from the brilliant performance, what always gets me is the humility with which she responds to the audience at the end. Amazing.
She got a 7 min standing ovation here
Thank you, Tasha. You get it. So many people don't understand this song. They think it's praise to God, but Cohen said it's about his divorce.
Her version is my favorite. It is more 'angsty' and true to what I think the lyrics mean than some of the more saccharine versions by others.
