KD Lang started her career in Canada in mid 80s, she was at the time what was called Country Punk. She had a infinity for Pasty Cline and ended up being produced by Owen Bradley (Patsy Cline's producer) in 1988, for the album Shadowland. Roy and KD won a Grammy for a duet of this song Crying, which was Roy's hit from decades earlier. After Roy passed, she inherited the song. She performed it at the Roy Orbison Tribute concert (and received a 4 minutes standing ovation), and at the request of Roy's widow Barbara at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction. Her album Absolute Torch and Twang was one of her best. The songs Trail of Broken Hearts, Pullin' Back the Reins and Big Boned Gal (from the Album) solidified her at home in Canada. She was at the top of her game. She got more attention with the album Ingenue, which contained Constant Craving (Grammy for Pop Female) and MIss Chatelaine, her best know songs. She was not the most commercially successful artist, as at the time, records companies had no idea (and were afraid - especially the Country Market) how to market an openly gay female artist. Her covers of fellow Canadian Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Dionne Warwick's "Theme from Valley of Dolls," The Hollies "Air That I Breathe", first rate.

KD Lang is a gift from the gods. Sooo incredibly talented! This performance is a prime example of how she rarely, if ever sang the same song the same way twice; She'd create each performance in the moment, as if for the very first time. I saw her once in the mid-90's in downtown Vancouver, just walking along the sidewalk... as unassuming and "human" -looking as the next person. Displaying no outward sign of the power-house of talent and ability she really is.. Love this woman!

You are definitely right about the song being old. KD was under Roy Orbison's wing. Which this song was. The 2 together can make you cry. They both had old souls. She dearly loved his. They also both have dramatic voices. She can sing anything. Even the highbrow type music. Give this lady a country band or and orchestra, and you have a concert. Plus Canadian country does sound a little different as well as music from Keith Urban's Aussie. Shania, Gordon Lightfoot, Ann Murray etc. Its a little different but still country.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

"Constant Craving" is another song, and she did an incredible cover of "Hallelujah" (If I remember correctly she performed it at the opening ceremonies of the London Olympics a few years ago.) I was already familiar with this performance, so I was watching you. I immediately saw how you were 'feeling' her voice.
