I use the RC to book in Maui. $1,200 hotel for a $450 annual fee. I use the $300 airline credit to pay for Alaska+ lounge membership, which also gets Admirals lounge membership.
I already used the Ritz-Carlton Card this year for its free night certificate at a 950.00 night at a Ritz-Carlton NYC. I already used all of the 300.00 travel credit. I've already used 4 lounge visits and 2 airport restaurants' visits this year. I used 4 days free primary car rental insurance this year. And last I have 2 trips next month October both stays in Ritz-Carltons where I already applied club level upgrades to both stays saving me upto 600.00 on one stay and upto 1500.00 on another. And both stays I'm applying the 100.00 property credit. Sweet!!!!
I used my Ritz free night certificate to stay at that very RItz in Tokyo. Went during Cherry Blossom 2023 and base rooms were over $1500 per night. I am Titanium and was upgraded to a corner suite.
Love having both. Just got them both this year. Being platinum and hitting 50 nights, gets you 5 Suite night upgrade certificates. I just got upgraded at the St Regis from my base room to a suite. The room im paying for is 600-700$ but the suite is 1700$ a night! Looking forward to my 2 Free night certificates next year!!
Cool new setup Chase!! As someone who is a Marriott loyalist, I’m a fan of both so I’m all about getting those 2 85k FNAs as well as the other benefits! Like Platinum status (very close to getting Titanium soon)!
Unless I missed it somewhere in the justifying the cost section at the end - the added benefit is that automatic platinum status with the Brilliant card gives you 150% bonvoy point credit for each stay starting day 1 if you stay at platinum or 175% (since it is a shorter path to)at titanium. While the Ritz card starts at gold so only 125% bonvoy point credit for each stay starting day 1 - so essentially Amex gets you more points for redemption towards award stays. So I would imagine there is a $ value that translate towards the annual fees. :)
Yas! Great video! I'm keeping the Brilliant now for the next 4 years until I hit the Lifetime Platinum status. I'll cancel it afterwards, if I still want a Marriott card at that time I'll go for the Ritz Carlton card. But I'm sure something else will come out by then.
Great call on holding the card for the minimum amount of time to gain lifetime Platinum status! You then get all the benefits of Platinum status and so t have to pay the annual fee for the card!
Keep in mind also that although the Brilliant does not have Plaza premium access it is an AmEx and that should gain you access to Centurion lounges which are considered quite nice if im not mistaken.
Great video! I’m definitely need more info on hotel credit cards so this helped to show how great both these cards can be. Congrats on the move! Also the height rounding was hilarious. I’m in the same height bracket and definitely have told people I am 6ft.
The Brilliant will be my final card as I'm in my endgame. I'm a Hilton loyalist, but as the Surpass is best for my spend habits instead of the Aspire, I'm choosing The Brilliant as my top tier Hotel card. It will fit nicely in the ecosystem my fiance and I our building going forward. Great video.
Besides the Chase Sapphire Reserve, the Ritz-Carlton Visa also grants unlimited visits to the growing network of Chase Sapphire lounges. Other Priority Pass accounts only give one per year gratis. Could be a consideration if you’re regularly flying out of Boston or NYC now, with places like Vegas and San Diego opening up like later this year.
I have the Brilliant. For the year + it takes to get the ritz and then only gold status? Its not worth it. Free breakfast and room upgrades for the GF and I, while we travel, more than makes up for the annual fee.🤑🤑
No Brainer for both. As someone who is loyal to Hyatt, I'm planning on getting both soon. Already has Bonvoy Business card for my business. I just need to get out of the pop up jail with Amex first LOL
Ok this is not because I usually prefer Amex anyway but I generally feel that the brilliant will generally be a better card and sure that $650 is extremely high but my justification for it is let’s say if you have the ritz card will still need to spend way way way over $650 to get plat plus 35 nights. That’s my reasoning
The SUB would be yet another win for the Bonvoy Brilliant as the cash value of those points is another way to "offset" at least the first year annual fee. Even at a measly 0.5¢ per point thats still about $900 cash value which can be juiced up with a cool redemption.
Also don’t count the free hotel stay into the fee of the first year paying for the bonvoy brilliant. The benefit is only provided upon card renewal after the first year. Then you have to wait 8-12 weeks for it to show up in your Marriott account. So you basically have to pay $1300 in membership fees to get it.
The lounge access that the card gives you can easily be baked into the equation as a $$ amount benefit offsetting the annual fee. Add in the fact that with the AmEx you should be able to access Centurion lounges as well...which again has a $& value.
Think I am going for the RC. I like the yearly "free night". I am a Marriott guy since I travel a lot for business over the years and am blessed enough to have achieved "Lifetime" Titanium, so I am not in it for the status, but it does give me a higher multiplier on points which is very cool. Where is the info on the Priority Pass restaurant. I do not find any details on it.....That makes it a no brainer for me. Thank you.
Holy smokes. congrats on the lifetime titanium! 👏🏽 Good luck with the RC application. Thank you for watching and commenting. 🤙🏽 here is a link with some information upgradedpoints.com/news/chase-sapphire-reserve-losing-priority-pass-access/
get both. that means you get two ritz or jw or st regis every year. w ritz, you get three ritz club lounge passes a year and brilliant offers m club lounge so you have a pretty sweet two day vacation every year. add another free day or two if you are a big spender on your ccs. subtract out the ritz $300 airline credit and the $300 brilliant restaurant credit, and this is a no brainer. early check in and late check outs give you pretty much two half days which is way worth it to enjoy the superb resorts. all the other perks are gravy all ovah.
@@ChaseYokoyama Yeah, it was because of work. I had to move back because I had to show up to the office a few days a month. I am actually from California, but was working remotely in Honolulu during the pandemic. People say Hawaii is expensive, but I always felt it was less expensive to live there. Anyway, I hope you enjoy living in California. Without knowing which part of LA you're in, just be careful there since it is probably not as safe as Honolulu and the people are less friendly.
@@ChaseYokoyama yea but it's one of the best redemptions I've found because for 104k that same room was between $1900-$2400/night. Cash prices are just absurd
Brilliant wins because of automatic platinum. unless you stay a lot at the ritz with cash and a true ritz fans like literally stay at the ritz 9 out 10 times
I have a boundless card and looking at switching to RC. I also have delta Amex platinum. I just want to keep one out of the 3, which do you think I should keep/have?
How about if you have 2 cards, the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card and the RITZ-CARLTON visa from chase? what are the benefits? Will I get the benefits from each card?
Okay so i would book one night or 2 at a Ritz-Carlton to get the 100 dollars benefits? And after booking do you have to pay in advanced? When exactly do you ask for club level?😮
it would have to be " two-night minimum stay at The Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis using the Member Rate named “$100 Property Credit, Luxury Credit Card Rate,”" You do not have to pay in advanced. You can call RItz Carlton before booking to use your club level certificate. Disclaimer: the club level certificates can only be used on certain rates. Most of the time, it may not be worth paying the extra cost on the rate just to use the club level certificate.
I used the RC 300 credit to buy Marriott points to top off. The RC PP allows you to bring in unlimited number of guests. Plus Chase is opening a chain of new lounges all around.
If I get the Brilliant card first to get the 185k SUB, one I get that can I then get the Boundless, switch over my 185k points and keep for a year to get the Ritz?
If you get the Brilliant card first you have to wait 24 months to be eligible for a SUB on the Boundless. I don't advise it but you can still have the Boundless card within the 24 month period, you just won't get the SUB. the 185k points would be tied to your Marriott account so there is no need to "switch it over" .

RC card lets you use airport restaurants and Plaza Premium lounges, while the Brilliant does not. That in addition to the RC has a $200 lower AF.

I just got the bonvoy brilliant but I’m not seeing the value of the Ritz Carlton card. It seems disappointing. I was expecting more from it
Most of the RC's value comes from the Free night and $300 travel credit. So if you wouldn't use either then it will be harder to justify
Also don’t count the free hotel stay into the fee of the first year paying for the bonvoy brilliant. The benefit is only provided upon card renewal after the first year.
