- Hello friends, if Toto is your Beatles, this video is for you.
If you are NOT a fan of the 80’s and 90’s west coast session scene, this video is NOT for you….and i suggest you potentially try another video.
Please send offers to:
brandooli.hood@gmail.com
For the record, Dann Huff is one of the most quality human beings i have ever been around.
Anyone that knows him or has worked with him, like the two beautiful fellas in this particular video, will tell you the same thing.
He is just a lovely person on every level, and he has earned all of his many achievements in this world with his absolutely amazing set of ears….
I have spent countless hours on the other side of the glass from this fella over the last 20 years or so…and i will tell you first hand that he hears EVERYTHING…..and i mean EVERYTHING.
You cannot “sneak” ANYTHING past Dann, and trust me, nobody is “sneakier” than me when it comes to “sneaking” stuff on sessions.
Brandon Hood is a straight shooter, a hard worker….one of my favorite producers to work with.
He is the guy who single-handedly pulled me out of my three year retirement from sessions, and i will never let him live that one down.
Seth Morton is a beautiful guy, a FANTASTIC engineer and he is AVAILABLE TO HIRE for all your recording needs.
IMPORTANT UPDATE....the private auction is cookin' kids...i cannot mention the actual number, but i can give you a small hint that the current high bid is somewhere between 2499 and 2501 dollars....i mean, the mesa studio preamp is worth 1500 alone.....ALSO, a Roland SDE-330 Space delay has been located and will be included.
Wow! I predict another zero will be added by sundown to the leading bid.
@@alanpenner3328 you mean like 02500?
Do we have any insight when Brandon plan to close the bid?
@@501chorusecho Haaha! Well Played!
There should be a like button for the peeps who actually read the description on a channel.
Dann is one of my heroes i’m so happy to see this video
We are no longer the knights who say “niche”
We are now the Knights who say “Ecky, Ecky, Ecky, Ping and Née Whom!”
BTW well done!
Neat piece of rock history right there. Giant is one of my favorite 80's groups. Huff is such a bad ass vocalist and guitarist.
The Beatles were my Beatles
The Stones were my Beatles.
Dave Clark Five For Me. but initially it was the Beatles.
It’s an age thing
fwiw - i read EVERY SINGLE video description since day 1. almost as important as the vid itself! also, there's a dan huff instructional vid here on YT that features this rack (along with another one) and the floor unit.
I did not
Those who dont read the description are missing out
it's not our fault we forget to read them. 99% of the other RUclips descriptions are useless. so that's never the first place I go. Tom's descriptions are not the rule they are the exception. They could possibly be one of the best on RUclips. Pay attention other RUclipsrs put a little effort.
I was thinking there's probably a reason why the other RUclipsrs have useless descriptions. I think it might be because they want you to watch the whole video to get your questions answered. There's always a reason for deception. Haha I don't think Tom cares if you watch the whole video.
Howdy Uncle Larry. The reason a lot of subscribers like myself do not read the introductions you provide is because they don't show up if you are watching your youtube videos on a TV. Please don't take it as us ignoring your hard work because your fans are devoted. To all of us retired bar band dudes your channel is a great reminder of the camaraderie that takes place between musicians who in general are just cooler than the rest of the population. Great job and keep em coming, Woodrow
Great point .. I mainly watch Uncle Larry on my TV, not computer. But I recently subscribed and also watch on my computer up in my ofc/studio. The content that Tom puts up under Home Skoolin is incomparable on RUclips !!
I haven’t seen an Alesis QuadraVerb for so long! Brings back some wonderful memories of my old home studio based around my old Tascam 388.
Loved my quadraverb and thought he was serious about them being unicorns now and freaked out lol nah still cheap I should get another!
I saw that Alesis blue from a mile away
Still have mine! And I bought it to use with my tascam 488! Hours spent striping the tape for time code. Learned a lot with that 488 setup- MIDI etc… leave it to Tommy to take us back in time!
It's good for people to recognize the importance of real half and half when having a cuppa
Am I the only one that gets giddy and geared up for these back scenes Unc Larry vids!?!? Lol. Love this stuff!
EPIC. Came here for the amazing acoustic playing and stayed for the bonus flatpicking masterclass and flatpicking shred session! Bryan Sutton is a BEAST 🙌🙌🙌
Toto is indeed my Beatles! :)
This is so awesome... Imagine all of the amazing notes and tones that passed through that setup
Super awesome video. My man does have a cup of coffee sitting on a legendary amp! Bolder than me!
Rock’n Roll memorabilia at it’s best! Thanx for posting!
Brandon revived what's left of my career:) Love working with him and you!
I was just listening to the first Giant record - Dann is a killer player!
Am i the only one hypnotised by that coffee cup on the Mesa?
Uncle you nailed it on the head. Toto is my Beatles!!!! LOL. Researching Jeff Porcaro and Steve Lukather is how i found your great channel. Your are right up there with the guys!!!! Thank you for what you do!!
Boy, I'm a gear junkie, but this is the worst possible time! My very best buddy has been helping me deal with 2 of life's worst possible things over the past couple years. For about a month, every day, he had been staring at this Vola- OZ RV guitar! It's like a 'super-strat', 1 pc mahogany w/sandblasted ash top, HSS, trem bridge, roasted maple w/lockers, fitted HS case. High quality ($$) MIJ. Not really my bag, but he couldn't stop talking about it. So I bought it, and gave it to him. He lit up like a little kid at Christmas!! That gave me a warm fuzzy I haven't had in several years! That was 5 days ago, he hasn't put it down yet! LOL So no LPJ for me, for quite awhile again. But it was all worth it, I'd do it again!! Thanks for reading, Peace --gary
"Hello friends, if Toto is your Beatles, this video is for you..."
Great opening line 🙂
Big ❤️to mr Dann Huff
At least twenty Homeskoolers read the description. Last night the video beat the description like a rug in a Persian brothel. Today it drew a tie. I was a dj from 1979 - 2000. If I had a dollar for every time I read Dann Huff's name in the liner notes...
Thanks very much for sharing fellas, +1, I hope this piece of history goes to a good home, I think a museum, but it would be top if brought back to life and used like it was intended. 👍👍👍🥃Respect to you fellas.
Saw and heard Dann’s rack system in use in the mid-90’s, when I attended a couple sessions with him at LOUD Recording, and The Music Mill.
He then had a VHT Power amp in the bottom of his preamp rack. It all sounded great, of course! He also had some amp heads, and eight guitars at each session, along with various amp cabs. Dann is very nice guy, and he let my try his ‘63 Strat. Also hung out at his house in Brentwood, were he showed me the rack were he recorded the early Giant demo’s on an Alesis Adat. My pics of him in the studio’s can be seen online on various web pages.
😂 “How do you know that”👍🏻
Grail material right there. Wonder how many times I’ve heard that rig and never even known? Hope this yields Dan something he finds total joy in, nice!
Ha how funny! I still have my Wavestation SR and Quadraverb! Always loved Dan's playing and tones, he was like the Nashville version of Micheal Landau or Jay Graydon.
I had a Quadraverb in my 80's rack - what a great unit!
Speaking of the Beatles, that is a great photo on the wall behind Seth of Ed Sullivan, Peter, Paul, and Mary, with Ringo, George and John
I LOVE the video descriptions and the puns in the titles, Uncle Larry.
Dude I read every video description!
same here
I believe Dann went to the 5150 stuff after someone spilled coffee on on his Boogie and it trickled thru the rack. Thus providing interesting paths for current to go zoom zoom.
Dann Huff🎸👍✨❤️
That’s cool stuff. Can’t deny some of the shizzle that went on with those guys on the West coast !!
Tom, I _always_ read your video descriptions. Shame I don't live anywhere near Nashville. I would've made an offer. It's a very cool piece of history and that Strategy 400 with the Mesa pre amp is a very nice combo and something that wouldn't take much to fix if it were not fully functioning. I'd also bet the Bradshaw switcher and foot controller is still operable, especially if first cleaned and had it's jacks hit with Deoxit. Very cool to sell it to a fan and use the money to get something sweet for Mr. Huff. Shame it still doesn't have the TC 2290 or the one marked "Eventide" which I can't help but guess was the _incredible_ H9!. I hope someone gives the fella a fair offer and comes to pick it up!
haha im here, perfect timing uncle T! few beers in its like 20.30, Dire Straits were my beatles and black sabbath along with a few others lol
Nice place to put your coffee! (oh, and nice rack o’ stuff too!)
A particularly long video description for this one but worth reading as every one of Uncle Larry's vid synopsis have been since Corona Lessons 1. Great one here, love that era of session players including Dann Huff. An interesting one Tom, Thank you!
Looks like the mice were feasting on the road case rack foam! Those little critters will eat anything! They get into my ac unit outside in the cold weather and chew on the control box wires, started putting bags of moth balls in there that seems to keep them away.
I read the description before I watch.
I foresee a huge spike in Dan Huffs RUclips views in the very near future
Dan Huff rack gear! Love it!
@501chorusecho Those two pieces with all the ins and outs are Bradshaw system interfaces.
They connected Danns amps to the effects rack and to the board for di.
I think this rack may be featured in the instructional Video for solo guitar and recording experience on RUclips.
I want this rig with every fiber of my being
I see a rack and my mind can’t help but think “tri-chorus.”
I am not a fan of the 80's west coast session scene, however, I do enjoy an education. Thanks for sharing
Tom, you should start putting something in the video descriptions so we can read what the video is about 😉
OMG! This is straight up gear porn! To be able to own pieces of Dann Huff's rig is like the pinnacle... People don't realize this but Buzzy Feiten and Dann Huff were the very earliest of Bradshaw's switching system users and caused legions of guitarists to get on board including Mike Landau and Steve Lukather. Great episode Uncle Larry!!!! My 54th birthday was yesterday and if I'd only known, my better half could have relieved you of this gear but she gave me a ......guitar center gift card instead! lol
Buzzy and Landau were the first.
@@jaycareaga9929 yes, you're correct. My bad.
Still have a Quadraverb! Fun unit.
West coast is the best coast! Cheers Tom!!
If I had to guess, the "special piece" that Brandon is keeping is the Tri Stereo Chorus rack unit.
The Korg Wavestation is a really good sounding synth module. It's worth the $500 alone.
i do read them uncle L - like you clever poetry
Actually, I´m quite sad about the state of the system. Torn apart, corroded, bend. It used to be so glorious and precious once and now, It looks almost like trash. It would be so stunning to see how this beast would be rebuild in detail. Maybe with some quotes of the master himself.
You need a puppy….i think that would potentially help how you are feeling…
Andy Wood might be interested in this.
Ha!! Valley Arts guitars and Bradshaw rigs!! The sound of 90s California.
Actually most players were using Tyler guitars.
@@jaycareaga9929 Not in the studio I worked at.
@@VictorRochaGaming Huff, Landau, Steve Watson, Dean Parks, Tim Pierce we’re all Tyler players.
Sold my Strategy 400 two years ago. Great amp but weighs a TON, and unless you are playing stadiums/arenas, it's kind redundant. any amps now sound as good and weigh a tenth, so I let it go GLADLY. Switching system is cool, but they make new stuff that blows it away. To me, the Quadraverb is the only thing I'd want
I remember my quadraverb from way back when
Hope everyone is having a good day
Strategy 400..key piece for SP in the Mellon Collie era! Killer amp!
pro tip - he STILL plays the same amps, I know because Psionic Audio had them both at his shop the night before their memphis gig last year, because they both shit the bed. Look up the video on his channel.
Cool stuff. The Mesa power amp alone looks like it must weigh about 80 pounds.
Huff's Wikipedia page is a wonder to behold....Looks like he's worked with more people than Tim Pierce!
Is that one of them there rack systems , I heard about them once
Always wanted a boogie studio pre
I loved GIant!!! Man, Dann was (and propably still is) such a terrific guitar player. That intro on "time to burn" gives me shivers! :D
YOu can see the rig in action here: ruclips.net/video/pWThQ0DuJr0/видео.html
Lol this video is targeted at me very specifically. I have tons of this shit and love it…when it’s relevant to use.
Are Quadraverbs really that hard to find? I don't know why but I have three of them. At least one of them worked as of about five years ago.
I read vid descriptions
wow gear from the 1800's
Uncle Larry time
I still have a like new Peavey Valverb, works great.
paging MIchael Nielsen!
Hey Uncle Larry. What is your favorite aftermarket PAF? I know you use the real thing. Thank you.
Ox pick ups are about as close as you get
👍
Coffee ☕️ cup on the amp! 🤦🏻♂️
Is that the anti-Larry set up?
Sure! Film when Seth is there!!! Not me!
I bet RJ Ronquillo would buy the whole kit and kaboodle, delivered on a pallet. Also, lol to the title.
Too many wires for me.
Of course it is…do you still unplug the toaster from the wall every time you leave the house?
@@501chorusecho I do, I blame mom. 😀
@@501chorusecho 😂
I don't leave the house. But I get your point.
@@stringlocker when is your actual court date?
A museum piece ?
YOUR museum piece bob
@@501chorusecho Where do cows hang their art work ? In a mooseum ...apologies to all bovine ...
If gear could talk
Any bid's yet ?
Yeah man its cookin
@@501chorusecho ...I grew up in the castle also. Brings back good memories. I'd buy all of it but I need Kevin Beamish to tell me if we can put it in the studio 🎙 for what we're doing now. What's it up to now with the preamp.?
@@nathanrogers4609 email brandon
Found the video you quoted ruclips.net/video/pWThQ0DuJr0/видео.html - it would be amazing to see someone bring the rack back to life!
Thank you for the link. Fabulous insight. Lots of monster players out there. I'm not one of them. At 65 I'm still trying to be a better player today than I was yesterday. Also trying to be a better person today than I was yesterday . Cheers
9:48 - Curious question - "there is one special piece that I did keep"? IMHO What's missing from the rack is "more important" that what is left over!
Probably the TC2290
@@ndadson Thanks for the info.
Great show as always … consider joining & posting on LinkedIn. Lots more folks need to hear from “Uncle Larry”
@rjronquillo
I really hope this goes to @michaeltoren or @michaelnielsen
