- Uncle Larry shares a few rehearsal memories from a super fun gig that happened in San Francisco over the last few days.
He got to see some old friends and play some good old rock and roll with some of his bosses, past and present.... and had an absolutely lovely time.
(and now, Tom Bukovac takes over speaking)
These clips taken from the Jimmy Irsay exhibit that happened on 12/10/22, in San Francisco CA, starring:
Ann Wilson, Little Johnny Fogerty, Stephen Stills, Buddy Guy, Kenny Aronoff, Kenny Wayne, Ebo, Tony Lucido, Mike Mills, Mike Wanchic, Danny Nucci, Stephen Barber, Jeffrey Gorman, Carmella Ramsey, Edgerrin James and others.
Special thank you to Paul Moak for letting me borrow his amazing sounding resonator guitar.
If anyone out there has one EXACTLY like this one for sale i will buy it.
Tony Lucido is filmed here playing the famed Alembic fretless bass that John Mcvie used on this little Fleetwood Mac album you may have heard called "Rumours".
The fretboard is shiny aluminum....pretty cool bass. Jimmy bought it for a song.
Bottom line…let me say once again...i am SO thankful and grateful for all the cool places this instrument that i have worked sooooooooo hard at in this life has taken me....i will NEVER take it for granted.
The magic equation that applies to basically everything in life....it's 99% drive...1%t talent.
Work ethic trumps EVERYTHING.
and way more importantly than all this, i want to say goodbye to a dear friend....Zak Godwin II.
see you down the road bro bro
That bit with the strings at the end is pure bliss
Those players probably don't realize yet what a truly special moment that was. They will, though.
Love it!
Yes it was!
After he walked off, a couple of them looked like they were thinking "Who was that masked man?" 🙂
Hey Tom, so sorry about the loss of your friend.
Oh man, I wonder if this was/is his same friend, where Tom actually walked into his close friend's home & found him deceased. That's just terrible, in every way. Not sure if it's the same friend though. ??????
I feel very privileged getting a peak behind these musical productions with some amazing musicians! Thanks Uncle Larry!
The strings at the end were sublime Tom.
When you just hear strings like this you really are reminded off the fact that they were made to all project perfectly along each other
To me that’s probably the most magnificent piece of human engineering ever created
Thanks Tom. You’re such an important voice in the guitar community….it’s great having a seat in your classroom 👍🏻👍🏻
I was there! You guys were awesome! Took my wife 3 boys and 2 brothers, it was amazing. My 9 year old got home and has been wanting to play his guitar all day today. thanks
Damn, I teared up on the orchestral moment of you leading the strings... Man, just beautiful.
The Weight, with those strings, sounds freaking gorgeous.
Ok the Sweet Child of Mine intertwined lick is awesome. And the look on your face of utter joy when you’re teaching the strings is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen Bukovich. 🙌🏻
You’re like a musical Johnny Appleseed man! Traveling around and teaching pros and noobs alike. Any style of music. Any time. All the time. Sharing the joy. Spreading the joy of music in this Crazy Crazy World. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!!!!
That resonator is cool. It's like a Supro and a Dobro had a baby.
Thanks for the treat Uncle Larry. That part at the end was extra cool. Much respect...
Wish I could like this twice for that string section bonus ending. They’re looking at Uncle Larry like “I don’t know this guy but he has my undivided attention.” Beautiful in all respects.
These views behind the scenes never get old. Watching Little Tommy from Cleveland with those string folks at the end warms the heart.
Tom, condolences on the loss of your friend Zak may he rest in peace.
Tom,
You have certainly earned your place as one of the great musicians of our time.
The recognition of your peers is well deserved.👌
Thank you for sharing your experiences with all of us.
Absolutely amazing!🤙
More proof that we're the luckiest audience of viewers on RUclips in my humble opinion. Such a sincere privilege to have access like this. On top of guest appearances by KWS (a guy who's just incredibly cool and down to Earth for such an acclaimed musician), sweet Ebo and Brother Tony (what a _rig_ btw! Mr. Irsay coming with *THE* Alembic used on _Rumors_ running into a pair of old flip tops? 🔥🔥🔥) we're also given several slick chords and a radical little fifths lick to add into our repertoire. At this point of about two and a half years watching _The Home Skoolin Show_ I can safely say that *at least* 50% of my cooler chords have been copped off Uncle Larry.
Tru dat
The bit with the string players is awesome.
The Weight with strings sounded amazing!!! Good grief…
Best channel on RUclips by FAR!
Loved the ending with Uncle Larry's Philharmonic Orchestra! Magical stuff! 😎
I don't think I've heard strings on "The Weight" before, and considering how many times in my life I've heard it, that's an amazing thing.
But, boy, that was instant goose-bumps! Why hasn't anyone done it before?
The strings on The Weight were beautiful!!
Oh my god the string section playing the weight was so beautiful !!
I bet not only us, the mere viewers, enjoyed those strings... But YOU yourself as well (standing in the middle of it) !!
Hi Tom! My name is Steve. Just wanted to let you know that I live in NorCal, and I was there the night of this concert. It was stunning, and so good that I cannot describe the quality of the musicians, especially you. Absolutely magic. Thanks so much for your giving to our Homeskoolin’ Class. You continue to be an absolute inspiration. All the best to you this Holiday season. Rock on brother!!!
I love Tom working with the string section... Sweet!!!
The strings at the end…beautiful!!!
OH MY GOD "I NEED YOU RIGHT NOW" I think we're done.. You got this...I'm dying oval here Mitch
Is this not just the greatest You tube channel EVER? Thanks Uncle Larry. WHAT kind of dobro is Uncle Larry playing????
can we just give uncle larry a doctorate in teaching already. the man has a gift, i think he could teach ice how to freeze.
❤and make it even cooler
Not many people can live their dream life. You've worked hard for it, you deserve it.
Super amazing to get to be a fly on Uncle Larry's wall once again! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
Pure GREATNESS!!! It’s priceless access to behind the scenes stuff…just hanging with my favorite guitar player on the planet!
Yet another excellent video behind the scenes of a bunch of really great players from good ol uncle Larry, keep on rockin! I'm digging the "National electric resonator(?)" would love to see that guitar on an @ home vid sometime but realize it may be in one of your ready to go boxes. Thanks for your tutelage. The orchestral ending was really nice even the singing!
That was pretty tight. Sounded every bit of how I heard it growing up. Blowing Kenny’s mind was hilarious and 2 nice checks. Was just watching cbs morning and there’s uncle Larry standing behind Jim Irsay. Lol
Really lifts up a rainy Oregon evening to have these backstage passes....man, Stephen Stills and John Fogerty with Tom....that's a hot ticket show
And kenny arnoff on drums.
Uncle Larry, your genuine gratitude for where your drive has taken is one of the real marks of great artists. And i would imagine for most of us, and certainly myself, i am so grateful for your willingness to take us on the journey a bit. Becoming one of your virtual roadies is one of those points of gratitude.
These Fly On The Wall moments have got to be my favourite. Thanks for letting us visit a bot of your world (with no edits) Uncle Larry (although at my age I should be your uncle).
It’s so cool to see how the songs come together for such great musicians. Thank you a thousand times for the peek into the process!
Thank you Tom . . . . Uncle Larry bringing the Real life behind the scenes . . for all you do 4 us pickers and grinners
Tom… Uncle Larry… I have to say that being able to see, hear and interact with a professional musician and learn the intricacies of the trade and the inside look at things is really something. I started playing when I was 9. I’m 51 now and the thought that, between then and relatively recently, of having a window to a side of music that most people would only get to know by some random chance is nothing short of incredible. Thanks a million. I know it’s long winded but really, thanks a lot!!
Loved the ending
I saw David Gilmour, David Bowie, EVH, Keith Richards and other legends. Now I can say I also saw Tom Bukovac play live. Great show last Saturday!!
Where did they play? Was that the Bill Graham? I live in SF and I've not been in that concert hall.
Yea, civic center
@@tszegvary Thanks! Going to see the band Smile there next weekend, cool to see it beforehand.
Uncle Larry living the dream, and letting us take a peak of heaven. Awesome.
Best day ever! Thank everyone who had a part of putting on the show! It was so inspiring!
Uncle Larry the conductor. Dude, you are the coolest.
Tom , you will go down in the history books for of course your studio work but also for sharing clips like these. Simply amazing , thank you Sir.
Great to see Ann and some of the Amazin dogs together in our lovely little city (SF). The Uncle Larry orchestra was an added bonus!
My Goodness....the string playing with Uncle Larry was what the tickets could have been for. Sublime.
CHILLS! Thanks for taking us along.
Uncle Larry you are a freaking Legend kind Sir. your ear an playing are so amazing to me. I just love what you do.
The ending was like a sophisticated skinny version of school of rock. I loved the strings and Uncle Larry in the round! It was cool to see you in that situation as the maestro.
Thanks Tom. The bit at the end with the string section was very cool.
Love the Uncle Larry string band! Cheers Tom!!
That last part was the coolest thing I've seen while, awesome Tom!
Ah hell!! I'll just say it! I love you Uncle Larry!
Great vid, Tom! Love the bit with the strings- Band tune never sounded so good! 😉
Loved the rehearsal with the strings - think I can hire them to follow me around and play all day? Like all line up in the hall outside the bathroom and play "Hail to the Chief" or some such?
Really enjoyed that...hearing the acoustic with the strings puts a smile on your face!
Hey Tom, sorry for the loss of your friend. See you down the road would make a great title for one of your more melancholy melodies on your next album. I have lost a few friends in the last couple of years. It is one of those sad facts of life as you get older. Thanks for bringing this great content and making our lives better while we are still here to enjoy it.
looks like you had a lot fun in San Fran!!
And the string section- how cool is that - music carries on through the young!
Tom I know you hear this all the time but man you are an awesome dude! So humble and talented. I hope you thank the good lord for your amazing gift! Really appreciate you giving us the on stage performance. It shows me how versatile you have to be to do what you do every day. Hope you and your family have a wonderful safe and happy Christmas.
Uncle Larry nails it. The bass, an Alembic is all you will ever need. Great drummer.
The Weight - with violins! I have died and gone to heaven!! OMG, that is gorgeous! 🥰🥰
Love these behind the scenes look at what you and those other amazing musicians do. Us normal people never get to see this, thanks for what you do.
Love me some Ampeg Portaflex tone with Alembic control!
So cool Tom, thx for the inside backstage pass. Love you sir…
Huge bass!! Love it!
Very cool National your playing. Need one of those. Thanks for taking the time to let us into your world uncle Larry
Love it you sound great on this National Reso Electric, this Fleetwood Mac song always shake me ! Love that reharsal with the strings sounds great The Band right ?
I feel like I’m there ! Fabulous !
Yeah the strings at the end were icing on the cake. Awesome
Awesome man! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Tony on that bass!!! Yes! So cool. Wish we could have made it out there to see y’all! Thank you for sharing this behind the scenes treat. All the love for Ann and the Dawgs. 💜✌🏼🔥💜
Just flew in from Eastern Europe and was met by Uncle Larry and this vid. What a great “welcome home.” Love the backstage view! Keep those coming, please.
That... was amazing. Quite the bookends- watch to the end. The resonator was an eye and ear catcher. McVie's Alembic, Kenny Wayne getting his mind blown, Tony and Ebo. That riff you made up has some potential.
Thanks, Tom, for the rehearsal footage. I was at the concert. It was very cool. Probably 5000 in attendance despite bad weather. Thanks again! ps love to hear more about the resonator guitar; it/you sounded great.
Whoooow!! What a KILLER sounding guitar Uncle Larry is playing here! WOW. What a cool song choice especially after losing Ms. McVie which is still bumming me out. So bad to think that band will never be as they were again. What a charmed life Uncle Larry leads. So cool.
Great video, but that shot at the end with Larry surrounded by strings was next level beautiful. X
Uncle Larry - I loved seeing you play in Indy with the Jim Irsay Band. Yall were amazing!
@13:46 - I wasn't ready for that. wow
Man…wish I was you in this moment. Thanks for keeping the dream alive. Joyous for you.
When those strings kicked in toward the end :O !! Beautiful.
Thanks Tom,
Pleasure getting to watch the live rehearsal from a floor wedge view!
Kenny Aronoff the legend, counting the band in. Top notch.
The string section on The Weight, in the hallway… really great stuff. 👌🏻
Uncle Larry leading the Strings. What a musical treat!
Amazing Tom! Damn you got soul
Goosebumps from strings
Man that was great. I’ve always wanted to play with strings (violins) like that. I bet it’s euphoric.
Thanks for these awesome videos!! It was great to see the joy in your face as you worked with the string section. Condolences to you on the loss of your friend.
looks like an old national reso! National ResoLectric 2010 Sunburst
Always Kenny Aronoff.... for good reason!
More singing UL! 😊🎻🎻🎻🎻
Makes you realize what a brilliant player Buckingham is. The National sounded great
I jammed with John at a party in 1996. After we played “Bad Moon Rising” I said to John “I hope someday you’ll have a hit with it”. He replied “I’ll keep working on it”. 😂 Very funny man. And yes, there is a “bathroom on the right”…
Thank you for taking us to work with you!!
Thanks Uncle Larry ! Your killin' me ! 🍻
dude, when those strings hit at the end. i needed that today.
Hey Tom, have you ever thought of launching a series of Homeskoolin Guitar Straps? Then we could say that we were 'skooled with a strap right across our backs!'
Cool Axe. Glad to see you on this gig.
Hi Tony. Saw the dawgs in Dallas and want to tell you RUclips doesn’t do your sound justice. After witnessing it in person I have come to the conclusion your are a beast!! Yall rock
