Sorry but I really disagree, Endgame did more to setup the future of the MCU than actually be a good movie. It was just an excuse to stop paying Robert Downey Jr 70 million per movie.
Would have been more cathartic if Tony hadn't already made the sacrifice play back in 2012, with the nuke. Seriously, what was the point of giving Tony the same arc AGAIN in Endgame? WE DID THIS ALREADY.
SpankMeSanta phase 1 was the golden era? I hate to break it to you, but phase 1 is nowhere near that. It had 1 good movie (iron man), 3 decent movies (Avengers, Iron Man 2 and Cap) and 2 that were bad. Second phase had 2 that were good, 2 that were decent and 2 that were bad. Phase 3 (thanks to the Russos and some new talent) had 7 good movies and 3 decent ones.

The difference is that one of them killed his own daughter to Wipe out half the life in the universe and the other one did what he had to in order to save the universe but his daughter and all the billions of people are safe atleast for now.
@inrealtime23 yeah there is a difference between having the right intention and what actions you take to complete that goal. Thanos had the right intention but wiping out half the Universe was not the right action to take. I see no way how he is helping people by wiping out like 4 billion people.

I never bought the idea that Marvel planned all the details in the mcu movies from the very first iron man movie, but damn, your refernece makes me think twice.
My favorite callback to previous MCU films was when Captain America went into the elevator in role reversal to the scene in The Winter Soldier. His idea of saying "hail HYDRA" shows how clever he is.
The only thing I didn't like about that scene, ironically, was the delivery of the line itself. It was too loud and not nearly sneaky enough. Chris Evans should have been inhaling that man's ear
Nebula "They didn't suspect a thing." Thanos "The arrogant never do." I loved the irony of this line. Thanos has seen that by staying the course, he achieves his goal, yet in his OWN arrogance, goes back in time to change things, dying in the process.
petore6 well to be fair, they were moving to to get the stones and undo his win, so he did have to act otherwise staying the course would just have him die and his work undone
Alexander Cave if Thanos didn’t travel to the future then it would’ve been the main time line Thanos, taking no action would’ve made it his future, taking action would make it not his future, but still wins, then he could travel back to his universe to do it, if he knew to do it

I liked that this Thanos showed his true colors. The original Thanos died fulfilled thinking that he did right. But when the past Thanos saw that it didn't worked he became almost jealous, his "grateful universe" didn't occurred, nobody was thanking him, so he really wanted to became a god to the new universe. Like a twisted Doctor Manhattan
I personally thought Black Widow's death was the best type of send off for her. Her whole life, she's been a secret agent/spy who've killed hundreds of people, and throughout the mcu, by joining the Avengers, she's been given a chance to prove to everyone and more importantly herself, that she's not a monster. Having her sacrifice herself for not only the only family she's ever had in the avengers, but for trillions of beings in the universe, is greatest ending you can have for her character arch.
I totally agree, I don't think that the movie would have worked as well thematically if Hawkeye would have gone off the edge. Widow would just feel more guilty, have more red on her ledger, and have failed to bring Clint back to the good side as he had done for her back before Avengers.
Also, the difference between Hawkeye and Widow with Thanos and Gamora is superb. It helps really cement what an utter sack o sh#t Thanos is. No-one would jump for him, plenty of the Avengers would jump for each other.
James Burgess yeah also the fact she was so sad she couldn’t “bring life into the world” when she was made infertile in her youth, and now she basically “gave life” to half the universe by sacrifcing herself is so beautiful and earned
the only thing i didn't like about that is that scene was the fact that her death shared the same shots and score as Gamora's. It kinda took away from it being her sacrifice as opposed to Thano's sacrifice of his daughter.
I think Thanos had a lot more bravado in Endgame because he never had the weight of the journey and victory he experienced in Infinity War. He was several years away from it.
well the avengers pretty much screwed Alt Thanos from his journey when they went after the stone in his alternate timeline. Which I think makes since for the way he acted.
@@preddyshite6342 actually you get the sense that he was biding his time and waiting for the bigger threats to be vanished. Ego, the Krees, Odin&Asgard, all of them could've stopped him if they knew what he was up to. The moment he knew Odin was out of the game, it was time to strike.
Yes and considering we only see him in IW after having the power stone. When winning, he is this respectfull and wise master, but loosing and desperate, he reveals the total psychopath he actually is in the last action scene, wonderfull.
Not quite from scratch for Quill, and I have to wait for GOTG Vol. 3 but I feel like it kinda ruined the film for me. It will not be the same Gamora just like in this film I felt like they were not fighting the actual Thanos, the one who succeded, but just another random guy.

I feel since Adam warlock is in gotg 3 or atleast was teased they might do something with the soul world and they could go there and get the real gamora back
I hope Quill tries to find the Gamora he knew instead of awkwardly trying to build that back up with this new Gamora. Let them get their own character arcs now that everything's changed.
The finale may have been fan service, but it's fan service we waited years for. It was payoff to everything that had previously been teased like: Cap wielded Mjolnir Cap said "Avengers... Assemble" Tony and Peter hugged We saw insta kill mode in action Falcon finally got his "on your left" revenge And finally "I... am... Iron Man" The reason it was so impactful was the same reason all other big Marvel action scenes work, we love the characters because of the time we've spent with them as people, seeing them just live. We feel like we know them deeply so we feel like we're right there with them in the fight. I straight up cried during the battle because it was so earned.

RDJ last line wasnt even supposed to be that. He was just supposed to smile and snap his fingers. The Russo's just found that that take was lacking and consulted with another writer and they camr up with the homage to the last line of the first film that bore the MCU. So I dont think it was fanservice at all because the fans never really asked for him to say that line; it was never a thing like all the other running jokes or references. I classify cap ielding Mjolnir as fanservice because fans have been waiting to see that.

I honestly thought Black Widow's ending was...perfectly in line with her character. I know most people might've wanted or expected Hawkeye to die for the soul stone, but from the very start, Natasha's always felt burdened by what she had done in her past (the red in her ledger) and so her sacrifice is like, the ultimate way of earning redemption in her own eyes. At least, that's how I interpret it. Not to mention, The Avengers were her family and she clearly would've done anything to save the people she loved.
I think part of Thanos being different is that he's younger. I think he gained a lot of his complexity during Infinity War and just before. To me it feels like Thanos mellowed out due to the losses he suffered. With the Thanos of 2014, he suffered none of the losses and was shown his win. He was given a vision of his future as successful. This gave him a confidence and belief in his inevitablity without the mellow he gains. So basically everything that boosts one's ego without any of the things that mellows a person out which gave him a more truly tyrannical personality
They just didnt have a villain so they just gave us comic book thanos packed with an hour of rehashed of infinity war. The loss you are probably talking about doesnt exist until the soul stone. The loss you forget is Titan and seeing his people perish. Main timeline Thanos had a noblility to him that straight up disappeared which diminishes the amazing MCU adaptation he got. Hell, I didnt know he got out of his floaty chair before this point. Why even send Ronan to get the power stone if he is actively doing things? Time travel ruins everything.
@Sword Of The Stars 5 years makes a massive difference. Just look at basically every character after the 5 year timeskip. Yes they specifically went through heavy tragedy but still the point stands. I believe that the years sitting on that chair allowed Thanos to mellow out enough to be the protagonist of the Infinity War the way he was. Plus both people replying have ignored the fact that his daughter turned against him in 2014. We know that he loved Gamora dearly and that would be a massively blow to him. 2014 Thanos was arrogant in his idea of being inevitable and then with the stones in his grasp with none of the loss he experienced, he simple was more of a stereotypical villian. He lost nothing in his quest.
The way I saw it, Infinity War Thanos is a man on a "holy quest," shown by his lack of armour, leading to him being more calm, collected, and sympathetic. Endgame Thanos is still in his armour and is therefore still just a warlord with a dream
I think you could look at it as excessively pandering to the fans and not really driving the plot forward all that much. Like, when Cap is fighting Cap, does that really advance the story or his character? Yes, they have to get the stones, which are the Mcguffins, but that scene doesn't really add anything. But at the same time, what people have to remember is that, as you said, it is the 22nd and final chapter of a 22 (well with one epilogue) episode Movie serial. 22 episodes is a complete season for TV (well between that and 26 episodes), so having the final main episode pay homage to the other episodes is great. Furthermore, I think it really shows how the brothers and the franchise as a whole feels towards its audience. They are rewarding you for being invested in the series and watching all the movies. Those who watch a few or who don't invest themselves won't get as much out of this film as someone who has been there from the beginning. Now, this doesn't mean that someone who was a diehard MCU fan would never dislike this film, but the film itself is more geared towards those fans.
@ArronZ M. I do see what you're saying, and to an extent I agree. But I think that the prior more somber part of the movie already showed that he's not as idealistic and hasn't really moved on. We already know that he hasn't moved, and so this fight isn't really emphasizing anything new. I agree that when he sort of makes fun of his catch phrase, it does show he's less idealistic, but the rest of the fight doesn't really serve that purpose. Again, I don't mean to say that I didn't like the fight or enjoyed Cap saying that, but I am trying to provide a balanced view on the movie and what it is trying to accomplish.
@@jaredpoon5869 Uhmm I think you got wrong that thing with Cap. First, it did add up for the tension that the whole time travel thing did, the dangersw of failing. While for Cap, I mean, he hasn't moved on with Peggy because they agreed to remember each other, but she got Alzheimer, so she died thinking Cap was still in the ice. It was a tragic element perfect for TWS, here, Cap is going back to her since he's already done everything he could, he became worthy, helped literally save the universe and had the bravery to stand up over a huge army. Well the thing is, Peggy Carter is the only thing he won't forget something, of course ignoring the whole Sharon Carter thing that finally got totally scrapped.
I hated that ending for one of the greatest comic book character adaptations of all time. It seemed forced. An easy fix would've been if the reason Black Widow touches her stomach after "The Snap" is cuz she was pregnant with her & Steve Rogers child. The added trauma of that and Widow's death would've at least made Cap's cheesy ending more acceptable.

I fell in love with Nebula's character. Never would I thought she would be a favorite. They portray her so well of what she was then and she is now. It's almost like I needed to review how on earth she changed over time. Thinking about it, everything she stood for and talked about was so refreshing to me to explore more of the dysfunctional family of Thanos. And yet even after all that, She doesn't take pleasure in Thanos death or death of her past self despite her arrogance. This is jarring since she was so hellbent on killing him and pretty much staying a psychopath. Although very exaggerated, it struck a chord with me for those characters who seemingly cannot have a redemption.
I find the mere fact that Nebula is such an important character in this movie fascinating. It's one of the best examples of the foresight and planning ahead that makes the MCU so great. If any other company had adapted the Guardian of the Galaxy, Nebula would have just been a secondary villain in the first movie and then probably been killed off by the end, never to be seen again. But James Gunn and Kevin Feige kept her around, developed her and now she's ammong the best characters. That's how you make a 22 movies heavy franchise work.
To be honest, I think the lack of action is what helped gravitate this film more. Don't get me wrong we all watch the marvel movies for that sweet bit of engaging action sequences and showdowns, but the first two hours of this movie helped make that last hour really worth watching. The concept of Banner merging with Hulk embodying best of both worlds was a good concept and him actually SPOILERS bringing everyone back is much more of a feat than him just smashing everything in sight. The reason why most of the flagship and main avengers got the most screentime in this movie was because this was a sendoff to them, a goodbye note for 11 years. Yes you can argue that some scenes did feel dragged out, but to be honest this movie felt more like character development rather than an action movie in my opinion, and of course like a good time traveling back to the future movie. The theme of this movie was the concept of what they lost and nearly every character had something to fight for. Captain America wanted to fight for the deaths of Falcon and Winter Soldier, Hawkeye lost his family to the decimation, Thor let thanos win and lost his dignity and lost nearly all of his loved ones and the list goes on and on. Some people don't understand that we can't always just have action flicks to tell a story. We can have good superhero movies that delve into character growth and development. SPOILERS Black widows death was important because was the reason she sacrificed herself wasn't because she had 'nothing to live for' or she wanted the team to simply beat thanos and resurrect everyone, but she wanted her 'family' to succeed in the end and in the end, was willing to give her own life to do so, Barton still had a chance to see his family come back and she wanted him to have that chance. There are many heartfelt scenes that I don't think get enough attention and people just go straight to the action. This movie wouldn't mean as much if it were just balls to the wall fighting every single frame no. This is the culmination of 11 years of filmwork. This was the right way to go out guys. Endgame might be one of and if not THE best marvel film. Thank you RDJ, Chris evans. Thank you all for your amazing work. Thank you for giving us the experience we needed and most of all, thank you Josh brolin for giving us one of the most amazing villains in fictional history.
The lack of constant action is exactly what makes the presence of the action so special. I mean, portals may as well be THE most bombastic fight scene in the history of cinematography
The problem with MCU Hawkeye is that he's always stuck in a supporting character role, so he doesn't have nearly as much development or plot importance as the others. Hopefully the Disney+ show helps remedy this.
I loved the fact tbat Cap stayed, because he was always an outsider in this time and for him to go back home and live the life he wanted to was perfect

Michael Vessel ikr, smh that's what annoys me, if they had just cut the nonsense and just dove right into the action this movie would prob be better than infinity war, but imo it wasn't, the end battle for sure was better than most scenes in infinity war but as a whole infinity was better. That's true, but I think for a lot of people the trade hurt a bit more than it would have the other way around simply because she was a better, more developed character by this point in the franchise. As an audience we have more invested in her. Don't get me wrong, I actually like Hawkeye a lot and he did have a family to get back so it makes some sense, but, arrow to my head, I'd have picked him to jump instead of Nat.
RedSkull had nothing to lose-so he was stuck there. BlackWidow had nothing to lose she shouldn't have gotten the stone. Hawkeye lost his family & became a Chinese Punisher. a Soul for a Soul. he should have given up his life for his Family. what would you do to bring back yours?
For me it's a little disappointing. Josh Whedon did a really poor job developing her character, and the Russos were definitely the antidote. I wish there had been more time for their more nuanced and complicated Black Widow to make an impression on the audience.
Plus she gave her life for millions. Clint already had a family and dude tried to sacrifice herself. Its subjective but BW death was a good choice imo.
I would have redone the time heist and had more action and the og 6 would have fought thanos rushed to get the soul stone she would sacrifice herself out of nowhere and they would have to go back to their universe could go more in detail as I'm not satisfied with this movie especially in the middle
@@RyanRuark I believe character development was never an option with her. She's of such LIMITED use in a super hero universe. Imho, she was ALWAYS in the movies as eye candy, hence the perpetual skin tight outfights.
I think this film will go down in history. Not just because of the box office, but because of what the MCU has given people over these 11 years of adventures of our favorite heroes. Endgame concludes the main story of the 6 original Avengers(at least 3) and I'm pleased that it went that way. Despite the shortcomings, I love this movie probably 3000?
BlueCorp I doubt it. Sure they were good and brought new things to superhero movies. However, to say a cheesy 2000s trilogy did more than an anticipated movie of 22 movie build up. That had to juggle tons of characters, storylines, and conclude in a way to satisfy fans and movie goers. That seems like a meh statement.

Tony's arc in the mcu is one of the most brilliant character works I've ever seen. There is a reason why grown adults where literally sobbing in the theater when he died. And more in general, marvel has almost always put characters before action, and that's partly the reason why so many people are invested in this universe, so the first act of the movie makes perfect sense to me.

My favorite scene is where tony sees peter for the first time since the snap and while Pete is rambling Tony’s face expression then the hug made me cry
True that scene was great. It reminded me Tony's dialogue to Peter while dropping him in Homecoming "We are not... we are not there yet" and now he actually hugged him. That was really satisfying.
RDJ deserves a frickin Oscar for his portrayal of Iron Man. He is PITCH PERFECT, every mannerism, every word, its all a perfectly crafted character to the point where you dont know if youre watching RDJ or Stark sometimes, it is just fantastic

did you hear that line was added after viewing the days footage? originally there was no come back from Stark. The film editor said "This is Tony Stark. He has to have a witty come back". now that everyone had a chance to think it over they are coming up with better lines.
The hype and excitement for Avengers Endgame will never be repeated. My favorite movie of all time. I saw this movie the morning it came out with my Brother and Dad, April 26th in IMAX theaters at 2:45 AM.
Honestly those first 15-20 minutes up to the five years later card felt like a whole full movie. I felt it a bit rushed but when they showed what happened the next five years I understood why it was like that

Be careful of your use of "Fan Service". That term is associated with cynicism and this film doesnt use it in that way, the fan service in Endgame is a reward for fans who followed these charcters for 11 years, and it isnt used to cover up its own flaws like most uses of fan service like Solo.
I thought what they did with Iron Man was...perfect. "We're going to be okay Tony. You can rest now". I cried. With that statement, Pepper Potts got to the heart of Tony's character since day one. I also liked what they did with Captain America. It made perfect sense to me. My favorite Marvel Films? "Iron Man", "Captain America: The First Avenger", "Endgame", "Guardians of the Galaxy", "Black Panther", "Civil War"
I liked Pepper's reaction, too. I was afraid she'd scream and have hysterics but they were smart and remembered her character... smart, together, prepared for anything, and well-accustomed to expecting the worst when it came to Tony's hero work. She felt it, of course, but knew bad crap was going down and knew what he needed to hear in the end. She got to say good-bye. And with that, Tony had one of the most satisfyingly heroic, badass deaths in the history of heroes.
@@BeeWhistler she complains every time tony goes to be a hero. She ever broke up with him between age of ultron and civil war because he wanted to keep making suits. This is the first time she stopped whining and accepted it.
MarenAnne66 Time has treated Age of Ultron very well. AoU sets up the character journeys all the Avengers end up taking through the following two movies, as well as in Ultron’s mission of extinction, teasing the mass genocide Thanos ends up committing.
Ultron's motivation makes more sense since he perceives a threat that would eventually make the world extinct so might as well be the one to do it and start from scratch by multiplying himself ti stand against Thanos. But still he was still weak power scale wise in Age Of Ultron he was defeated too easily.
@@heyheyronn I so agree. I watched it back in 2015, and while I liked it, it wasn't one of my favourites movies. But in rewatching it for Endgame, I really appreciate how well it carries the story of the Avengers. It sets up Hawkeye's family, the relationship between him and Wanda, the split between Steve and Tony, Thor's journey in Ragnarok, the need to do something drastic for Thanos, the Endgame title, Nat and Bruce's small arc, and Hulk's appearance in Ragnarok. It may not be the greatest MCU movie, and it may in fact be one of the weakest ones, but it really does tie in well to the series as well as set up a number of character arcs.
@@fatezero8662 There's a small bit of thought where I wish Ultron had stayed alongside the Avengers and followed Tony's original plan of a "suit of armor around the world," and how he'd change the battle against Thanos, cause he'd definitely be one of the strongest threats against him. Plus just seeing MCU peak performance Ultron fight Thanos would be awesome. Sucks that lore of Ultron (at least from what I remember) always turns him into a villain.

many people give lots of love to the actors on screen. this love is not misplaced. one thing that makes the movie is that the actors are fully invested into their character and believing that it is all real. it makes the viewer believe it is real too. however what many people don't think about is that without the tech people, these actors would just be a bunch of folks running around in cosplay doing role play. they would look like the average anime nerd in cosplay. rocket would just be a sock puppet. thanos would just be some guy in a barney costume. let us have a moment of silence for the tech people who made these movies possible.
Yeah man, the CGI guys for this entire 11-year MCU run are the MVP's for bringing this comic book universe to life. They should be commended like crazy =)
Also for John Favreau and his odd style of directing. As an actor himself, he gives actors massive creative control in his movies. Most of Iron Man is ad-libbed. This had a huge impact on the way future MCU movies were directed. Thank goodness we didn't get any "auteurs" stepping on the actors toes.
Brendan Corey it also could be considered a handing of the baton as the main drive of the MCU going forward so Tony and the OG avengers were the focus of the infinity saga then Peter and the new avengers are the new focus for the next era
The question was answered in the first Avengers movie. Iron Man guided the nuke into space not knowing if he would survive. He did lay down his life for others.
@@coastersplus I would disagree that he made mistakes in several movies. In age of Ultron he was hexed by The Scarlett Witch which induced a possible future. Out of fear he accidentally created Ultron with the help of Banner. It’s interesting that only Tony gets the full blame for this. But his actions are balanced out when he helps create Vision (thanks to Banner and Thor). As for the Sokovia accords, he feels the registration act is necessary after being confronted by a mother who lost her child. He’s the one that gets blamed for the death…..none of the other Avengers feel her wrath. His actions are borne out of guilt. But if you fast forward to the end of the movie, he learns (as do we) that both of his parents have been brutally murdered by the very person Rogers is protecting. That’s the beauty of Civil War. You route for Steve at the beginning but by the end you can sympathise with Tony, and may even switch sides. I can’t think of any other movies where he’s been in the wrong.

I think black widow dying the way she did was a perfect ending, a lonely assassin who was brought in and given a chance to prove herself, her sacrificing herself for the universe is the story telling us she’s not just a robot emotionless killing machine which it felt like in all the past avengers films.
I feel she got fucked over. She never got a proper love story. She just got 2 relationships that were kind of hinted at being something, that never lead into anything. Also, she just got forgotten about. She got about two minutes of mourning after her death and a 30 second "I wish she could see that we won" talk at the end, that was sandwiched between Tony's death and Steve's retirement.
Ti, Hero of the Starlight, Stardust, and Superstars everyones the hero, or did u forget about black widow LITERALLY jumping to her death in order to get the soul stone when there was someone willing to take her place. LITERALLY ANY1 OF THE MCU UNIVERSE would have done whay tony did if they were that close to thanos..... Dr strange didn't conclude he was the only one "willing" or "worthy", it wasn't his destiny whatsoever... He basically was the nearest to thanos in all possibilities... Does that mean hes not A hero.... No but hes not THE hero...... Everyone who has been fighting for the fate of the universe deserves that title..... Smh
@@malacyszn4392 For the purposes and thematic ideas of the movie, as well as the poetry of the MCU as a whole, Tony Stark is the hero, the real hero. Everyone did their part, but it started and ended when Iron Man built that suit in 2008 and took on his own demons and the world, learning along the way and proving he could be more than he was cracked up to be. Black Widow's place in the MCU wouldn't exist if Iron Man and RDJ didn't take the first step. You have HIM to thank for Endgame even being conceivable. Stark and Downey are THE heroes, and you will never take that away from them.
I didnt enjoy the time travel that much, mostly because those events were pretty boring and stakeless. The 1st and 3rd act of the move still rock though.
It was the perfect sendoff when Avatar the Last Airbender did it, and it still is when Endgame did it. A series finale without a recap of the series' best moments is a waste of potential

Another important part about thanos being less layered in this version is that this thanos is from 2014, not the 2018 thanos from infinity war. The thanos in endgame was still in conquest mode, so him being a better fighter too makes sense. Just my take
Yes. And many people think after he got the soul stone he mellowed out, not trying to kill anyone. The past Thanos is not holding back. And that's scary. I just think he should have killed at least one hero in that final fight.
ALSO we do see some of this Thanos in his dialogue with Nebula in A:IW when she says “you should have killed me”. And he bitterly retorts “it would have been a waste of parts”. Thanos pretends to himself that his aims are noble but when he’s pushed the mask slips and what you see is the unmoving, narcissistic sadist behind it that he doesn’t want to acknowledge. Thanos is a b@st@rd, he just hides it very well in IW.
Another thing is people bitching about a Stone-less Thanos being that strong. Did people forget that Thanos whooped the Hulk's ass almost effortlessly in Infinity War with no stone?
Another way that argument was proven wrong was Tony telling Captain "Everything you have came out of a bottle" but only Cap's will could allow him to whoop Thanos' ass with Mjolnir...

In AoU he tries to lift Mjolnir but because of the secret he is keeping he isn't worthy. In Civil War once Cap came clean with Tony and partial with himself he became worthy to use Mjolnir.

Cap couldn't choose Bucky. The world has only known him as the Winter Soldier: Assassin/Russian tool. Now he's the next Captain America? YIKES Also, it's probably something he and Bucky already spoke about offscreen. I couldn't imagine Bucky willingly stepping into the spotlight again either.
I walked out of the theater more shook than ever, but when I got home I was depressed. Really the only thing I could think about other than the movie was, "Man, when is Captain Midnight gonna post his video?" lmao
I loved Endgame. I cried when Tony died and Peter was saying “we won Mr Stark” and I nearly cried with joy when everyone came back. The ending the stories were great with Iron Man marrying Pepper, having a kid with her and those two teaming up in there own suits in Avengers Endgame (that bit should have lasted longer), I thought the way Captain America left was perfect and him dancing with Peggy was amazing. Also Iron Man had a lot of ACDC songs. When he landed in front of Loki in the first Avengers film Shoot to Frill was playing. Why didn’t Back in Black play when all the hero’s where running at Thanos and his “children”. It would have hinted even more at that it is The Endgame and is one of the first songs herd in the MCU and it fits with everyone coming back. I don’t know what do you all think.
I loved seeing pepper showing up to fight. After all these years of HATING seeing Tony go out and risk his life, when it counts mlst, no words....she just shows up and kicks ass. I wish they used Pepper to start the female avenger scene instead of captain marvel since captain marvel doesn't need ANY help whatsoever (she seriously took down a capital ship by flying through it a second earlier). Maybe Pass the gauntlet to her at the end.....maybe have Proxima Midnight in the teams way to make it more high stakes than generic baddies. That would have made that scene more memorable because I actually dont remember anything about it other than them posing.
Black Widow's Sacrifice was actually a nod to the comics that shes ready to die if she needs to. (It was a fight between avengers, correct me if im wrong. FilmTheory explained it better) And in MCU's story, its like a given that Hawkeye saved BW life, instead of killing her. And as a way to pay back Hawk, she sacrificed herself for the universe.
I personally thought that the Widow sacrifice scene was one of the best in the whole movie. I thought what happened was totally true to their characters and was really heartbreaking to watch. I don't think that the movie would have worked as well thematically if Hawkeye would have gone off the edge. Widow would just feel more guilty, have more red on her ledger, and have failed to bring Clint back to the good side as he had done for her back before Avengers. It just wouldn't have worked for Widow's character arch at all. Also I think that Hawkeye has really been given the short end of the stick in nearly every single movie he has been in. I think there is a lot more to do with that character, while Black Widow has had plenty of screen time, and even her own movie coming up soon. It was pretty sad not to see her with the A-Force team tho.

@@RyanRuark I will admit that would make an interesting pitch for a movie, but I feel it will be much more interesting to see this darker pre-SHIELD widow do all the awful things current day Natasha is desperate to be erased. It will make her character arch feel much more impactful & bitter sweet once we see what she used to do. Also on the note of who to develop further on screen, I feel that Widow has already got a great story arch and her time to shine, while Clint has been sidelined a lot, so his character has a long way to go. There is plenty of stuff in the comics to go on with his character, and I can't wait for his Disney+ streaming service show. Besides, who's a more interesting character worth developing further on screen? Pistol lady, or Hawkeye? (See how that's kinda irritating and not a fair argument? There is so much more to a character than just what weapon they wield.)
@@RyanRuark Would like to point out that Hawkeye is so so so much more interesting in the comics while Black Widow is less so. It's just that in making the first Avengers, Whedon decided to focus on the less developed one since it let him mold the characters the way he wanted to, while screwing over the fan-favorite, which Hawkeye's character could never really recover from.

After Endgame, I was very interested in the films "Black Widow" and "Eternals" because I wonder what kind of parents were the Widow and the operation in Budapest with the Hawkeye. But "Eternals" I would be interested to explore the world of MCU long before the main events. You can include Thanos and his family. Expand the universe. In my opinion, it would be very interesting to learn to many fans not only comics, but also MCU.
Endgame Thanos ACTUALLY IS less sympathetic than Infinity War, and that's for two main reasons. First, he still has not lost either of his daughters, Nebula for his treatment of her, and Gamora twice, first as a daughter, then as the only thing he loved and that he had to sacrifice. At the end of Infinity, Thanos has been through an emotional rollercoaster for the entire movie, after having failed time and time again in the previous years. Endgame Thanos hasn't lost anything yet. He still has his devoted daughters, he knows the Avengers just because they twharted his plans a couple times, and he's still waiting for other people to bring him the Stones, even when he sits down in his last battle ground. The only thing he realizes in the whole movie is that his plan is flawed, that even if he succeeds, those that remain will mourn too much to move on. He becomes a complete villain, desiring only to eradicate what he once wanted to save, to now build a whole universe in his image. A sympathetic protagonist turned by the circumstances into an arrogant and abhorrent mad god.
Sorry but this spits in the face of the amazing adaptation infinity war gave us just to give us comic book thanos. Your logic is flawed too because he has been doing this way before he hunted the stones and is shown being compassionate hence him adopting Gamora while killing half her planets population. The Thanos they gave us in endgame was boring and just a comically evil bad guy.

To me, there simply wasn't enough in the movies to explain the fact of Thanos. I mean, how is he that big fat badass? I still know him from my childhood comic reading times, but the movies did a bad job of introducing him. Smashing the Hulk like it's nothing, taking on the Avengers in what seems to be regular, no tech-armor and some sort of sword and thrashing them all, all this after just sitting around on his hoverchair and not doing a thing for 20 movies. Even Infinity War just introduced the man, but not the super.
I agree, the part that made me almost cry the most was when Happy showed up. There's just this innocence he has that almost got me. Maybe it's the fact that most films would treat a character like that as if they were an afterthought, but not the MCU, they never forgot about Happy.
10:23 I think the real reason Thanos acted a lot more villainous in this movie is because he didn't have to go through the heartbreak that Infinity War Thanos had to go through. 2014 Thanos didn't go toe to toe with Iron Man and told him that he respected him, and 2014 Thanos didn't even sacrifice Gamora yet. Also, seeing how he wins in the future really made this Thanos much more scarier and unforgiving.
I guess we saw two different movies because I thought the narrative flowed and made a lot of sense to me. Especially the sacrifice of Black Widow. It was 100% on point!
I think that black widows death actually made a lot of sense. Her character has always felt guilty for her past actions, and I think she wanted to do something that could redeem herself for what she had done. So her killing herself to get the stone, and bring back everyone, playing a major part in the destruction of Thanos, is a redemption for her.
The final battle was actually pretty awesome. My highlights (if anyone cares): 1. Cap badassery while wielding Thor's hammer. 2. T'Challa joining the battle just when it seemed like Cap was FUUUUCKED. I was impressed by the look in his eyes, which basically said "you're not alone, there is still hope, and I'm fighting by your side until victory or death". Such a powerful moment. Chadwick Boseman didn't even have to say anything, his facial expression said it all. 3. Thanos' relentless fighting style. Personally it made me feel physically uncomfortable, knowing that he'd doubled down on the crazy and was ready to wipe out not just half, but every living thing in the universe. If he got his hands on the stones - that would've been a wrap. It's not just that you can't bounce back from that - there simply wouldn't be anybody around to bounce back in the first place. 4. Scarlett Witch's rage. Awesome. There were a few annoying moments (when all of the women assembled - not to sound sexist, but it felt too deliberate - plus I didn't really like that they'd nerfed Thor, although it sort of made sense, given that he'd let himself go), but regardless - otherwise it was epic and worth watching over and over again.
Finally someone agrees with me about Thanos' intensity in this film, the dude almost ripped Tony Stark in half, When that happened I was like "OH SHIT" 😮
Thanos in Guardians 1: "Yeah I'm just gonna sit here and wait for you to bring me the orb" Thanos in Endgame: "yeah I'm just gonna sit here and wait for you to bring me the stones." Notice how 2014 Thanos is consistent between the 2, as at this point, this Thanos hasn't yet decided that he'll go for the stones himself. I thought it was nice that 2014 Thanos obviously acted differently and more evil, because it changes the Holy Warrior mindset he has in Infinity War from a retcon to the result of offscreen character development, and it lets the previous depictions of him stay accurate.
Thanos lost three infinity stones by relying on others; Loki lost him the mind stone, Gamora kept him from the soul stone, and Ronan stole the power stone. It only makes sense he'd decide to collect them himself after that. Ronan's actions are also probably a big part of why Thanos went after the power stone first once he knew where they all were.

Honestly, CaptainMidnight needs to check his comics. MCU!Hawkeye's built on Ultimate!Hawkeye because 616!Cap and 616!Hawkeye were really very similar, narrative wise, until Fraction's run... which starts a couple of months after Avengers (2012) was released. I like how it was a miscast because the movie runners weren't precogs who could predict how Fraction would write Hawkeye and how well it would do. But I don't get the hate either. Renner does a good job with what he's given and he's playing a very good version of the Hawkeye they've actually written.
The final battle sucked. It was a bunch of mindless action that didn't advance the story in anyway. It was just a bunch of 5 second hero roll calls and cheap fan service. The heroes just played keep away with the gauntlet. It was a CGI sploogefest of mayhem. There was no back and forth struggle between good and evil. The Black Order were wasted and were just canon fodder. Sanctuary II rains fire on the Avengers compound and an open field and can't injure or kill anybody. None of the heroes could defeat Thanos in combat. Tony 'Aladdin' Starks had to wish upon a gauntlet to 'win'. That final battle sucked. It wasn't really a battle. On on hand, the ensemble heroes were just stomping on the Chitauri, Outriders and the Black Order. On the other, Thanos kicked the shit out of the Trinity. It was the stupidest fan service battle without any meaningful story and tension.

Endgame has a ton of _cheap, unearned fan service._ For example, Steve goes from nudging Mjolnir to wielding the hammer like he was Steve Rogerson the Last Asgardian without any weapons training. He uses the melee weapon as well as Thor, does trick shots off his patriotic shield, and uses the lightening enchantments effortlessly. It's like he trained with the weapon his whole life. It looked cool, but it was also really stupid. Good fan service is just when you make a good film. Endgame had cheap, unearned fan service that just _pandered_ to its fans. That's cool popcorn flick stuff, but doesn't make a great film. That final act wasn't a 'battle'. It was just an over-the-top video game trailer of awesomeness, but sucked as an actual story. The new Star Wars trilogy has been getting criticized for its cheap fan service, but the fans loved it.
Remember, in the first IM movie, the headline on the Rolling Stone cover in that presentation about Tony Stark in Las Vegas for the Apogee Award? "Tony Stark Wants to Save the World". He sure did live up to his statement.

It had 1 good movie (iron man), 3 decent movies (Avengers, Iron Man 2 and Cap) and 2 that were bad. Second phase had 2 that were good, 2 that were decent and 2 that were bad. Phase 3 (thanks to the Russos and some new talent) had 7 good movies and 3 decent ones.

My favorite callback to previous MCU films was when Captain America went into the elevator in role reversal to the scene in The Winter Soldier. His idea of saying "hail HYDRA" shows how clever he is.
The only thing I didn't like about that scene, ironically, was the delivery of the line itself. It was too loud and not nearly sneaky enough. Chris Evans should have been inhaling that man's ear

I loved the irony of this line. Thanos has seen that by staying the course, he achieves his goal, yet in his OWN arrogance, goes back in time to change things, dying in the process.

I liked that this Thanos showed his true colors. The original Thanos died fulfilled thinking that he did right. But when the past Thanos saw that it didn't worked he became almost jealous, his "grateful universe" didn't occurred, nobody was thanking him, so he really wanted to became a god to the new universe. Like a twisted Doctor Manhattan

I personally thought Black Widow's death was the best type of send off for her.
Her whole life, she's been a secret agent/spy who've killed hundreds of people, and throughout the mcu, by joining the Avengers, she's been given a chance to prove to everyone and more importantly herself, that she's not a monster.
Having her sacrifice herself for not only the only family she's ever had in the avengers, but for trillions of beings in the universe, is greatest ending you can have for her character arch.

the only thing i didn't like about that is that scene was the fact that her death shared the same shots and score as Gamora's. It kinda took away from it being her sacrifice as opposed to Thano's sacrifice of his daughter.
I think Thanos had a lot more bravado in Endgame because he never had the weight of the journey and victory he experienced in Infinity War. He was several years away from it.
well the avengers pretty much screwed Alt Thanos from his journey when they went after the stone in his alternate timeline. Which I think makes since for the way he acted.

I was pretty sad at the fact that Quill and Gamora’s relationship will basically have to start from scratch now.
Not quite from scratch for Quill, and I have to wait for GOTG Vol. 3 but I feel like it kinda ruined the film for me. It will not be the same Gamora just like in this film I felt like they were not fighting the actual Thanos, the one who succeded, but just another random guy.
Not sure if she is even alive, tonys snap killed thanos and his troops maybe also gamora and nebula that came from that reality.

The finale may have been fan service, but it's fan service we waited years for. It was payoff to everything that had previously been teased like:
Cap wielded Mjolnir
Cap said "Avengers... Assemble"
Tony and Peter hugged
We saw insta kill mode in action
Falcon finally got his "on your left" revenge
And finally "I... am... Iron Man"
The reason it was so impactful was the same reason all other big Marvel action scenes work, we love the characters because of the time we've spent with them as people, seeing them just live. We feel like we know them deeply so we feel like we're right there with them in the fight. I straight up cried during the battle because it was so earned.

RDJ last line wasnt even supposed to be that. He was just supposed to smile and snap his fingers. The Russo's just found that that take was lacking and consulted with another writer and they camr up with the homage to the last line of the first film that bore the MCU. So I dont think it was fanservice at all because the fans never really asked for him to say that line; it was never a thing like all the other running jokes or references. I classify cap ielding Mjolnir as fanservice because fans have been waiting to see that.

I honestly thought Black Widow's ending was...perfectly in line with her character. I know most people might've wanted or expected Hawkeye to die for the soul stone, but from the very start, Natasha's always felt burdened by what she had done in her past (the red in her ledger) and so her sacrifice is like, the ultimate way of earning redemption in her own eyes. At least, that's how I interpret it. Not to mention, The Avengers were her family and she clearly would've done anything to save the people she loved.

I think part of Thanos being different is that he's younger. I think he gained a lot of his complexity during Infinity War and just before. To me it feels like Thanos mellowed out due to the losses he suffered. With the Thanos of 2014, he suffered none of the losses and was shown his win. He was given a vision of his future as successful. This gave him a confidence and belief in his inevitablity without the mellow he gains. So basically everything that boosts one's ego without any of the things that mellows a person out which gave him a more truly tyrannical personality
They just didnt have a villain so they just gave us comic book thanos packed with an hour of rehashed of infinity war.

The loss you forget is Titan and seeing his people perish. Main timeline Thanos had a noblility to him that straight up disappeared which diminishes the amazing MCU adaptation he got.

@Sword Of The Stars 5 years makes a massive difference. Just look at basically every character after the 5 year timeskip. Yes they specifically went through heavy tragedy but still the point stands. I believe that the years sitting on that chair allowed Thanos to mellow out enough to be the protagonist of the Infinity War the way he was. Plus both people replying have ignored the fact that his daughter turned against him in 2014. We know that he loved Gamora dearly and that would be a massively blow to him. 2014 Thanos was arrogant in his idea of being inevitable and then with the stones in his grasp with none of the loss he experienced, he simple was more of a stereotypical villian. He lost nothing in his quest.

I just don't understand how fan service in the 22nd and final chapter of a Comic Book Movie saga could ever be referred to as a bad thing.
I think you could look at it as excessively pandering to the fans and not really driving the plot forward all that much. Like, when Cap is fighting Cap, does that really advance the story or his character? Yes, they have to get the stones, which are the Mcguffins, but that scene doesn't really add anything.
But at the same time, what people have to remember is that, as you said, it is the 22nd and final chapter of a 22 (well with one epilogue) episode Movie serial. 22 episodes is a complete season for TV (well between that and 26 episodes), so having the final main episode pay homage to the other episodes is great.
Furthermore, I think it really shows how the brothers and the franchise as a whole feels towards its audience. They are rewarding you for being invested in the series and watching all the movies. Those who watch a few or who don't invest themselves won't get as much out of this film as someone who has been there from the beginning. Now, this doesn't mean that someone who was a diehard MCU fan would never dislike this film, but the film itself is more geared towards those fans.

@ArronZ M. I do see what you're saying, and to an extent I agree. But I think that the prior more somber part of the movie already showed that he's not as idealistic and hasn't really moved on. We already know that he hasn't moved, and so this fight isn't really emphasizing anything new.
I agree that when he sort of makes fun of his catch phrase, it does show he's less idealistic, but the rest of the fight doesn't really serve that purpose.
Again, I don't mean to say that I didn't like the fight or enjoyed Cap saying that, but I am trying to provide a balanced view on the movie and what it is trying to accomplish.

While for Cap, I mean, he hasn't moved on with Peggy because they agreed to remember each other, but she got Alzheimer, so she died thinking Cap was still in the ice. It was a tragic element perfect for TWS, here, Cap is going back to her since he's already done everything he could, he became worthy, helped literally save the universe and had the bravery to stand up over a huge army. Well the thing is, Peggy Carter is the only thing he won't forget something, of course ignoring the whole Sharon Carter thing that finally got totally scrapped.

I hated that ending for one of the greatest comic book character adaptations of all time.
It seemed forced. An easy fix would've been if the reason Black Widow touches her stomach after "The Snap" is cuz she was pregnant with her & Steve Rogers child. The added trauma of that and Widow's death would've at least made Cap's cheesy ending more acceptable.

I fell in love with Nebula's character. Never would I thought she would be a favorite. They portray her so well of what she was then and she is now. It's almost like I needed to review how on earth she changed over time. Thinking about it, everything she stood for and talked about was so refreshing to me to explore more of the dysfunctional family of Thanos.
And yet even after all that, She doesn't take pleasure in Thanos death or death of her past self despite her arrogance. This is jarring since she was so hellbent on killing him and pretty much staying a psychopath. Although very exaggerated, it struck a chord with me for those characters who seemingly cannot have a redemption.
A seriously underrated performance throughout all the MCU characters. The paper football scene was great.
I find the mere fact that Nebula is such an important character in this movie fascinating. It's one of the best examples of the foresight and planning ahead that makes the MCU so great. If any other company had adapted the Guardian of the Galaxy, Nebula would have just been a secondary villain in the first movie and then probably been killed off by the end, never to be seen again. But James Gunn and Kevin Feige kept her around, developed her and now she's ammong the best characters. That's how you make a 22 movies heavy franchise work.

To be honest, I think the lack of action is what helped gravitate this film more. Don't get me wrong we all watch the marvel movies for that sweet bit of engaging action sequences and showdowns, but the first two hours of this movie helped make that last hour really worth watching. The concept of Banner merging with Hulk embodying best of both worlds was a good concept and him actually SPOILERS
bringing everyone back is much more of a feat than him just smashing everything in sight. The reason why most of the flagship and main avengers got the most screentime in this movie was because this was a sendoff to them, a goodbye note for 11 years. Yes you can argue that some scenes did feel dragged out, but to be honest this movie felt more like character development rather than an action movie in my opinion, and of course like a good time traveling back to the future movie. The theme of this movie was the concept of what they lost and nearly every character had something to fight for. Captain America wanted to fight for the deaths of Falcon and Winter Soldier, Hawkeye lost his family to the decimation, Thor let thanos win and lost his dignity and lost nearly all of his loved ones and the list goes on and on.
Some people don't understand that we can't always just have action flicks to tell a story. We can have good superhero movies that delve into character growth and development. SPOILERS
Black widows death was important because was the reason she sacrificed herself wasn't because she had 'nothing to live for' or she wanted the team to simply beat thanos and resurrect everyone, but she wanted her 'family' to succeed in the end and in the end, was willing to give her own life to do so, Barton still had a chance to see his family come back and she wanted him to have that chance. There are many heartfelt scenes that I don't think get enough attention and people just go straight to the action. This movie wouldn't mean as much if it were just balls to the wall fighting every single frame no. This is the culmination of 11 years of filmwork. This was the right way to go out guys. Endgame might be one of and if not THE best marvel film. Thank you RDJ, Chris evans. Thank you all for your amazing work. Thank you for giving us the experience we needed and most of all, thank you Josh brolin for giving us one of the most amazing villains in fictional history.

That's true, but I think for a lot of people the trade hurt a bit more than it would have the other way around simply because she was a better, more developed character by this point in the franchise. For me it's a little disappointing. Josh Whedon did a really poor job developing her character, and the Russos were definitely the antidote. I wish there had been more time for their more nuanced and complicated Black Widow to make an impression on the audience.
Plus she gave her life for millions. Clint already had a family and dude tried to sacrifice herself. Its subjective but BW death was a good choice imo.

Not just because of the box office, but because of what the MCU has given people over these 11 years of adventures of our favorite heroes.
Endgame concludes the main story of the 6 original Avengers(at least 3) and I'm pleased that it went that way.

Tony's arc in the mcu is one of the most brilliant character works I've ever seen. There is a reason why grown adults where literally sobbing in the theater when he died.
And more in general, marvel has almost always put characters before action, and that's partly the reason why so many people are invested in this universe, so the first act of the movie makes perfect sense to me.

Be careful of your use of "Fan Service". That term is associated with cynicism and this film doesnt use it in that way, the fan service in Endgame is a reward for fans who followed these charcters for 11 years, and it isnt used to cover up its own flaws like most uses of fan service like Solo.
I thought what they did with Iron Man was...perfect. "We're going to be okay Tony. You can rest now". I cried. With that statement, Pepper Potts got to the heart of Tony's character since day one. I also liked what they did with Captain America. It made perfect sense to me. My favorite Marvel Films? "Iron Man", "Captain America: The First Avenger", "Endgame", "Guardians of the Galaxy", "Black Panther", "Civil War"

I liked Pepper's reaction, too. I was afraid she'd scream and have hysterics but they were smart and remembered her character... smart, together, prepared for anything, and well-accustomed to expecting the worst when it came to Tony's hero work. She felt it, of course, but knew bad crap was going down and knew what he needed to hear in the end. She got to say good-bye. And with that, Tony had one of the most satisfyingly heroic, badass deaths in the history of heroes.

I rewatched Age of Ultron after Endgame and I thought there was a lot of small hints to what was to come in Infinity War and Endgame.
MarenAnne66 Time has treated Age of Ultron very well. AoU sets up the character journeys all the Avengers end up taking through the following two movies, as well as in Ultron’s mission of extinction, teasing the mass genocide Thanos ends up committing.
Ultron's motivation makes more sense since he perceives a threat that would eventually make the world extinct so might as well be the one to do it and start from scratch by multiplying himself ti stand against Thanos. But still he was still weak power scale wise in Age Of Ultron he was defeated too easily.

But in rewatching it for Endgame, I really appreciate how well it carries the story of the Avengers. It sets up Hawkeye's family, the relationship between him and Wanda, the split between Steve and Tony, Thor's journey in Ragnarok, the need to do something drastic for Thanos, the Endgame title, Nat and Bruce's small arc, and Hulk's appearance in Ragnarok.
It may not be the greatest MCU movie, and it may in fact be one of the weakest ones, but it really does tie in well to the series as well as set up a number of character arcs.

many people give lots of love to the actors on screen. this love is not misplaced. one thing that makes the movie is that the actors are fully invested into their character and believing that it is all real. it makes the viewer believe it is real too.
however what many people don't think about is that without the tech people, these actors would just be a bunch of folks running around in cosplay doing role play. they would look like the average anime nerd in cosplay. rocket would just be a sock puppet. thanos would just be some guy in a barney costume.
let us have a moment of silence for the tech people who made these movies possible.
Yeah man, the CGI guys for this entire 11-year MCU run are the MVP's for bringing this comic book universe to life. They should be commended like crazy =)

Also for John Favreau and his odd style of directing. As an actor himself, he gives actors massive creative control in his movies. Most of Iron Man is ad-libbed. This had a huge impact on the way future MCU movies were directed. Thank goodness we didn't get any "auteurs" stepping on the actors toes.
I can't help thinking that Mysterio's gang all being movie technicians in Spider-Man FFH is Marvel's tribute to the creative people.

That third act to me was pretty incredible. I fucking cried when I saw everyone come back through the portals and when cap said “Avengers assemble”
The question was answered in the first Avengers movie. Iron Man guided the nuke into space not knowing if he would survive. He did lay down his life for others.
He did, and then he had several movies where he kept making mistakes, so I think this time still feels like a payoff.
@@coastersplus I would disagree that he made mistakes in several movies. In age of Ultron he was hexed by The Scarlett Witch which induced a possible future. Out of fear he accidentally created Ultron with the help of Banner. It’s interesting that only Tony gets the full blame for this. But his actions are balanced out when he helps create Vision (thanks to Banner and Thor). As for the Sokovia accords, he feels the registration act is necessary after being confronted by a mother who lost her child. He’s the one that gets blamed for the death…..none of the other Avengers feel her wrath. His actions are borne out of guilt. But if you fast forward to the end of the movie, he learns (as do we) that both of his parents have been brutally murdered by the very person Rogers is protecting. That’s the beauty of Civil War. You route for Steve at the beginning but by the end you can sympathise with Tony, and may even switch sides. I can’t think of any other movies where he’s been in the wrong.

I think black widow dying the way she did was a perfect ending, a lonely assassin who was brought in and given a chance to prove herself, her sacrificing herself for the universe is the story telling us she’s not just a robot emotionless killing machine which it felt like in all the past avengers films.
She should have been with Banner.

I feel she got fucked over. She never got a proper love story. She just got 2 relationships that were kind of hinted at being something, that never lead into anything. Also, she just got forgotten about. She got about two minutes of mourning after her death and a 30 second "I wish she could see that we won" talk at the end, that was sandwiched between Tony's death and Steve's retirement.
Johanna Geisel that relationship was so forced and was easily the worst plot point in Age of Ultron for me, so I’m glad they pushed it to the side.

Dr strange didn't conclude he was the only one "willing" or "worthy", it wasn't his destiny whatsoever... He basically was the nearest to thanos in all possibilities... For the purposes and thematic ideas of the movie, as well as the poetry of the MCU as a whole, Tony Stark is the hero, the real hero. Everyone did their part, but it started and ended when Iron Man built that suit in 2008 and took on his own demons and the world, learning along the way and proving he could be more than he was cracked up to be.
Black Widow's place in the MCU wouldn't exist if Iron Man and RDJ didn't take the first step. You have HIM to thank for Endgame even being conceivable.
Stark and Downey are THE heroes, and you will never take that away from them.
Tbh, the whole time travel section felt amazing, it was a glorified boss rush of the entire MCU movies.

Another important part about thanos being less layered in this version is that this thanos is from 2014, not the 2018 thanos from infinity war. The thanos in endgame was still in conquest mode, so him being a better fighter too makes sense. Just my take
Yes. And many people think after he got the soul stone he mellowed out, not trying to kill anyone. The past Thanos is not holding back. And that's scary. I just think he should have killed at least one hero in that final fight.
ALSO we do see some of this Thanos in his dialogue with Nebula in A:IW when she says “you should have killed me”.
And he bitterly retorts “it would have been a waste of parts”.
Thanos pretends to himself that his aims are noble but when he’s pushed the mask slips and what you see is the unmoving, narcissistic sadist behind it that he doesn’t want to acknowledge.

In AoU he tries to lift Mjolnir but because of the secret he is keeping he isn't worthy. In Civil War once Cap came clean with Tony and partial with himself he became worthy to use Mjolnir.

I loved Endgame. I cried when Tony died and Peter was saying “we won Mr Stark” and I nearly cried with joy when everyone came back. The ending the stories were great with Iron Man marrying Pepper, having a kid with her and those two teaming up in there own suits in Avengers Endgame (that bit should have lasted longer), I thought the way Captain America left was perfect and him dancing with Peggy was amazing. Also Iron Man had a lot of ACDC songs. When he landed in front of Loki in the first Avengers film Shoot to Frill was playing. Why didn’t Back in Black play when all the hero’s where running at Thanos and his “children”. It would have hinted even more at that it is The Endgame and is one of the first songs herd in the MCU and it fits with everyone coming back. I don’t know what do you all think.

I loved seeing pepper showing up to fight. After all these years of HATING seeing Tony go out and risk his life, when it counts mlst, no words....she just shows up and kicks ass.
I wish they used Pepper to start the female avenger scene instead of captain marvel since captain marvel doesn't need ANY help whatsoever (she seriously took down a capital ship by flying through it a second earlier). Maybe Pass the gauntlet to her at the end.....maybe have Proxima Midnight in the teams way to make it more high stakes than generic baddies. That would have made that scene more memorable because I actually dont remember anything about it other than them posing.

Black Widow's Sacrifice was actually a nod to the comics that shes ready to die if she needs to. (It was a fight between avengers, correct me if im wrong. FilmTheory explained it better)
And in MCU's story, its like a given that Hawkeye saved BW life, instead of killing her. And as a way to pay back Hawk, she sacrificed herself for the universe.
I personally thought that the Widow sacrifice scene was one of the best in the whole movie. I thought what happened was totally true to their characters and was really heartbreaking to watch. I don't think that the movie would have worked as well thematically if Hawkeye would have gone off the edge. Widow would just feel more guilty, have more red on her ledger, and have failed to bring Clint back to the good side as he had done for her back before Avengers. It just wouldn't have worked for Widow's character arch at all. Also I think that Hawkeye has really been given the short end of the stick in nearly every single movie he has been in. I think there is a lot more to do with that character, while Black Widow has had plenty of screen time, and even her own movie coming up soon. It was pretty sad not to see her with the A-Force team tho.

@@RyanRuark I will admit that would make an interesting pitch for a movie, but I feel it will be much more interesting to see this darker pre-SHIELD widow do all the awful things current day Natasha is desperate to be erased. It will make her character arch feel much more impactful & bitter sweet once we see what she used to do. Also on the note of who to develop further on screen, I feel that Widow has already got a great story arch and her time to shine, while Clint has been sidelined a lot, so his character has a long way to go. There is plenty of stuff in the comics to go on with his character, and I can't wait for his Disney+ streaming service show.
Besides, who's a more interesting character worth developing further on screen? Pistol lady, or Hawkeye? (See how that's kinda irritating and not a fair argument? There is so much more to a character than just what weapon they wield.)
@@RyanRuark Would like to point out that Hawkeye is so so so much more interesting in the comics while Black Widow is less so. It's just that in making the first Avengers, Whedon decided to focus on the less developed one since it let him mold the characters the way he wanted to, while screwing over the fan-favorite, which Hawkeye's character could never really recover from.
Endgame is the best movie ever made in cinematic history. Nothing can beat Endgame.

After Endgame, I was very interested in the films "Black Widow" and "Eternals" because I wonder what kind of parents were the Widow and the operation in Budapest with the Hawkeye.
But "Eternals" I would be interested to explore the world of MCU long before the main events. You can include Thanos and his family. Expand the universe.
In my opinion, it would be very interesting to learn to many fans not only comics, but also MCU.
Gunslinger I’d love a vignette of some post snap world. Maybe a few days and months after. I feel as if it would be really enthralling to watch that
I want the Black Widow movie to start or end during her funeral and is an account Cap, Bucky, Fury and others about her interactions and her life
Endgame Thanos ACTUALLY IS less sympathetic than Infinity War, and that's for two main reasons. First, he still has not lost either of his daughters, Nebula for his treatment of her, and Gamora twice, first as a daughter, then as the only thing he loved and that he had to sacrifice. At the end of Infinity, Thanos has been through an emotional rollercoaster for the entire movie, after having failed time and time again in the previous years.
Endgame Thanos hasn't lost anything yet. He still has his devoted daughters, he knows the Avengers just because they twharted his plans a couple times, and he's still waiting for other people to bring him the Stones, even when he sits down in his last battle ground. The only thing he realizes in the whole movie is that his plan is flawed, that even if he succeeds, those that remain will mourn too much to move on.
He becomes a complete villain, desiring only to eradicate what he once wanted to save, to now build a whole universe in his image. A sympathetic protagonist turned by the circumstances into an arrogant and abhorrent mad god.
Sorry but this spits in the face of the amazing adaptation infinity war gave us just to give us comic book thanos.
Your logic is flawed too because he has been doing this way before he hunted the stones and is shown being compassionate hence him adopting Gamora while killing half her planets population.
The Thanos they gave us in endgame was boring and just a comically evil bad guy.

To me, there simply wasn't enough in the movies to explain the fact of Thanos. I mean, how is he that big fat badass? I still know him from my childhood comic reading times, but the movies did a bad job of introducing him. Smashing the Hulk like it's nothing, taking on the Avengers in what seems to be regular, no tech-armor and some sort of sword and thrashing them all, all this after just sitting around on his hoverchair and not doing a thing for 20 movies. Even Infinity War just introduced the man, but not the super.
I agree, the part that made me almost cry the most was when Happy showed up. There's just this innocence he has that almost got me. Maybe it's the fact that most films would treat a character like that as if they were an afterthought, but not the MCU, they never forgot about Happy.

10:23 I think the real reason Thanos acted a lot more villainous in this movie is because he didn't have to go through the heartbreak that Infinity War Thanos had to go through. 2014 Thanos didn't go toe to toe with Iron Man and told him that he respected him, and 2014 Thanos didn't even sacrifice Gamora yet. Also, seeing how he wins in the future really made this Thanos much more scarier and unforgiving.

I guess we saw two different movies because I thought the narrative flowed and made a lot of sense to me. Especially the sacrifice of Black Widow. It was 100% on point!
Infinity war was the better movie, but Endgame was the better conclusion
I think that black widows death actually made a lot of sense. Her character has always felt guilty for her past actions, and I think she wanted to do something that could redeem herself for what she had done. So her killing herself to get the stone, and bring back everyone, playing a major part in the destruction of Thanos, is a redemption for her.
The final battle was actually pretty awesome. My highlights (if anyone cares):
1. Cap badassery while wielding Thor's hammer.
2. T'Challa joining the battle just when it seemed like Cap was FUUUUCKED. I was impressed by the look in his eyes, which basically said "you're not alone, there is still hope, and I'm fighting by your side until victory or death". Such a powerful moment. Chadwick Boseman didn't even have to say anything, his facial expression said it all.
3. Thanos' relentless fighting style. Personally it made me feel physically uncomfortable, knowing that he'd doubled down on the crazy and was ready to wipe out not just half, but every living thing in the universe. If he got his hands on the stones - that would've been a wrap. It's not just that you can't bounce back from that - there simply wouldn't be anybody around to bounce back in the first place.
4. Scarlett Witch's rage. Awesome.
There were a few annoying moments (when all of the women assembled - not to sound sexist, but it felt too deliberate - plus I didn't really like that they'd nerfed Thor, although it sort of made sense, given that he'd let himself go), but regardless - otherwise it was epic and worth watching over and over again.
SwapBlogRU cap wielding mjonir put up more of a fight than any other single avenger did. At least in hand to hand combat. I friggin loved it.

Notice how 2014 Thanos is consistent between the 2, as at this point, this Thanos hasn't yet decided that he'll go for the stones himself. I thought it was nice that 2014 Thanos obviously acted differently and more evil, because it changes the Holy Warrior mindset he has in Infinity War from a retcon to the result of offscreen character development, and it lets the previous depictions of him stay accurate.
Thanos lost three infinity stones by relying on others; Loki lost him the mind stone, Gamora kept him from the soul stone, and Ronan stole the power stone. It only makes sense he'd decide to collect them himself after that. Ronan's actions are also probably a big part of why Thanos went after the power stone first once he knew where they all were.
Give RDJ his Oscar already, he's earned it. His Tony Stark is the greatest superhero in cinema ever, bar none.
I'm not into the comics so I thought Renner is badass as Ronin here.
This is why people need to stop hating on the movie because it is boring. It is more of a storytelling movie or character arc movie.

Honestly, CaptainMidnight needs to check his comics. MCU!Hawkeye's built on Ultimate!Hawkeye because 616!Cap and 616!Hawkeye were really very similar, narrative wise, until Fraction's run... which starts a couple of months after Avengers (2012) was released. I like how it was a miscast because the movie runners weren't precogs who could predict how Fraction would write Hawkeye and how well it would do.
But I don't get the hate either. Renner does a good job with what he's given and he's playing a very good version of the Hawkeye they've actually written.

The final battle sucked. It was a bunch of mindless action that didn't advance the story in anyway. It was just a bunch of 5 second hero roll calls and cheap fan service. The heroes just played keep away with the gauntlet. It was a CGI sploogefest of mayhem. There was no back and forth struggle between good and evil. The Black Order were wasted and were just canon fodder. Sanctuary II rains fire on the Avengers compound and an open field and can't injure or kill anybody. None of the heroes could defeat Thanos in combat. Tony 'Aladdin' Starks had to wish upon a gauntlet to 'win'. That final battle sucked. It wasn't really a battle. On on hand, the ensemble heroes were just stomping on the Chitauri, Outriders and the Black Order. On the other, Thanos kicked the shit out of the Trinity. It was the stupidest fan service battle without any meaningful story and tension.

Endgame has a ton of _cheap, unearned fan service._ For example, Steve goes from nudging Mjolnir to wielding the hammer like he was Steve Rogerson the Last Asgardian without any weapons training. He uses the melee weapon as well as Thor, does trick shots off his patriotic shield, and uses the lightening enchantments effortlessly. It's like he trained with the weapon his whole life. It looked cool, but it was also really stupid. Good fan service is just when you make a good film. Endgame had cheap, unearned fan service that just _pandered_ to its fans. That's cool popcorn flick stuff, but doesn't make a great film. That final act wasn't a 'battle'. It was just an over-the-top video game trailer of awesomeness, but sucked as an actual story.
The new Star Wars trilogy has been getting criticized for its cheap fan service, but the fans loved it.
Remember, in the first IM movie, the headline on the Rolling Stone cover in that presentation about Tony Stark in Las Vegas for the Apogee Award?
"Tony Stark Wants to Save the World".
