Nice review. This is my helmet, because I'm dutch military. I trust your review more than any. Only complaint I have with the pads on the liner is that they soak up sweat and take a long time to dry. This might become a problem in winter conditions.
Seeing you talk about the Velcro tabs for the helmet cover, reminded me of one of the most useful, and versatile, accessories you can have in a combat environment. Industrial-grade sticky-back Velcro. I just happened to have some in my basic overseas travel toolkit the first time I went to Iraq. The security folks with whom I was working had a requirement to be able to quickly change license tags on vehicles, and the Velcro (augmented with some contact cement) was the quick solution. They also used it to modify indigenous clothing for use as concealment over their IBA/Molle rigs when driving. It also got used for innovative mounting points for gear in vehicles, including on ballistic panels that were used on the doors and floor of "thin-skin" (i.e. non-armored) vehicles to create some protection from small arms fire and shrapnel. It's small shit like that (coupled with folks thinking outside-of-the-box) the leads to simple, effective solutions to all kinds of problems, big and small.
I absolutely agree, I have stripes of sticky Velcro always around, and it saved so many little issues! Glad to hear that it's a public knowledge, not just me doing random stuff haha
@@valgear5525 at work we have a giant 2 meter tall roll of velcro tape and a paper slicer, i've probably borrowed at least 5 km of it throughout the years haha
You can say what you want about Tanner, but the purchase decisions she signed off on are the best of any Austrian defence minister of the last 50 years. She's gathered a very competent group of advisors in a board, which, let's face it, is rare in the Austrian history of procurement. I still remember the awful decisions against the Viggen and for the Draken. We'd still be flying the former and would have saved a fortune in the meantime.
I still don't understand why we get issued a Midcut when no one gets issued electronic earpro and you see it rarely anyway, a full cut MICH would be better imho
Surprised the Austrians don't use Ulbritch's helmets. As an American I am trying to get my hands on their new titanium composite helmet cause you can't be too careful.
The MSS is most likely designed as a semi-disposable part, with the idea that a peacetime army will likely have helmets that are shared among different soldiers (i.e. recruits going through basic training) where the use of pads would make it more difficult to reissue the helmets to the next group.
I believe as well, that it might be designed as a breaking point I'm case of snug hazard, same like jarm on PVS 14, it's not an issue in big army with logistic, spare parts etc, but I'm our situation it's an real issue...
I dont mind if our own military isnt prioritized if it means Ukraine can be well stocked at all times. The defence of Scandinavia starts at the Ukrainian frontline.
10:50 part of the kit is also two pieces of picatinny rail that you can attatch to the rail, these include shims, they mount more securely and can hold regular rifle lights and other helmet or weapon accesories,
besides mariupol there was donetsk and luhansk, known as the war in donbas, especially the battle for the airport. Saw alot of of different gear that I wouldnt think would be deployed there. Other than that great video as usual and glad to see you alive.
cool, in the US we are issued IHPS which has very brittle plastic for the rails. also plastic head harness mounting hardware wich is prone to breaking and not authorized for aiborne operations.
You should be getting the improved version of the IHPS in the next year or two, the contract requirements have been changed for better polymer because 11Bs kept breaking them.
With our new German Helmets the Cover is actually an improvement. Our Old Schuberth Helmets had a Cover which you tied around your Helmet & usually tended to get beaten up & simply fall off in the Middle of training , so the newer Installation with Galvion is way better. Only downside is that there is nothing to cover the Ears , so you have to privately purchase a Cover.
more of a hinderance than something beneficial -heavy weight -distorted vision -fogging -get dirty quick -wont stop anything other than shrapnel or pistol cal -interferes with cheekweld when aiming
It’s a good helmet with good characteristics but to this day I don’t understand why the German army didn’t buy the half cut version to make it even lighter and to allow for mounting the peltors they recently bought for everybody, they even got the shitty liner, the shitty rails and shitty plastic shrouds connected to the rails version, the wheel on the back falls off all the time and overall we are not too happy with them
The full cut give some sense for us in conventional warfare, but I think that buying high cut for every guy in NATO army is just better choice, your peltor always ready on rail, more compact, lighter and as result, soldiers would wear it for longer periods, it's fine to have helmet with big protection surface, but as result you tend to put it off on every stop/ opportunity...
I have an issue with my A3 helmet, which is that the screws holding in the retention System are rusting. I assume that my sweat is the reason for the rust, however I always stored it open side up and removed the wet pads. Has anyone experienced similiar issues?
It's kind of the same with the US Army's IHPS, and I don't think anyone would consider them poor, a cover for a full cut helmet with ARC rails would either have to sit underneath the rails, or be like this
@@bondeb42 You may be right - it is still crappy and needs a better solution - all those half hearted Camo attempts everywhere..... - On a Soldier everything needs to be in Camo Pattern (Like the Webbing on Plate Carriers, Chest Rigs or Backpacks)- else its worthless...
I heard about it, it sounds as great deal to get protection from 7,62x39 at acceptable weight, for my role it would be the best possible helmet to have, but I've never even seen one in person, plus they are very expensive

Interesting, as always. Austria uses the Opscore Sentry XP Midcut helmet, replacing the french CGF Gallet. Stay safe, Val!

I own a caiman. Very comfy helmet.
Caiman is crazy comfy and light. Almost feels like a airsoft plastic fake
Glad to see my boi is AZOV RG! God speed, brother!
Sweden and the other Nordic countries also has purchased Galvion Cayman helmets, but most have not been delivered yet.
Denmark has bough Galvion PDxT's for standard issue helmets, as well as Cayman helmets (for special roles i assume).

another great vid bro. I was lucky to buy a department of state surplus galvion caiman for like 700 bucks last year and I love it.
The FDF also ordered Caiman helmets recently to supplement previous high cut purchases.
