    Academy Award winning director, Asghar Farhadi was born in 1972 in Isfahan (Iran). A Separation (2011) film took over 70 awards internationally, including the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, the César for Best Foreign Film, and finally, the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. A Separation sold worldwide and was an international smash success, unprecedented for any Iranian film. In France, the film had one million admissions, a historic result. In the United States, where the film was released in December 2011, the film's box office was on par with the most successful foreign language films ever released in the US. With The Past (2013), Asghar Farhadi shot the film in France and in the French language. He was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world by Time magazine in 2012.
    The Past starring Berenice Bejo was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Bejo won the Best Actress Award at Cannes for her performance in the film.
