  • Asghar Farhadi is without any doubts one of the most important names of contemporary filmmaking, his movies won more than 80 prizes around the world and were nominated for other 64.
    Born in 1972 in Iran, he became interested in cinema when he was a teenager and started his education in filmmaking by joining the Youth Cinema Society of Esfahan in 1986, where he made 8mm and 16mm short films. He received his Bachelors in Theater from the School of Dramatic Arts in Tehran University in 1998 and his Masters in Stage Direction a few years later.
    With “A Separation” (2011) , he won the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film of the Year, making him the first Iranian filmmaker ever to win an Oscar. The film also earned Asghar a nomination for Best Writing, Original Screenplay.
    Made in Iran, “The Salesman” (2016) received the Best Screenwriter prize at the Cannes Film Festival and brought him the second Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
    His latest work, “Everybody Knows” (2018), shot in Spain and in Spanish with a cast led by Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, premiered at this year’s edition of Cannes Film Festival where It was the opening screening and received great acclaim, and later premiered in Portugal at FEST 2018, where he also presented a masterclass on Film Directing.
    In this interview Asghar Farhadi talking about his young career, his creative process and advice to up-and-coming filmmakers.
