I started receding in my early 20s and waited until my mid 40s to start shaving my head. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. So much more comfortable and convenient. I wish I had done it many years earlier.

@jr2904, I started going bald in high school, so that ship has long sailed. It’s acceptable for men but I truly feel sorry for women who have hair loss.

For what it's worth, I think the "balding from the sides" is the best pattern for balding, I've always thought of it as the "John McClane." As for the testosterone thing, I certainly haven't even looked up on this, and while I'm sure that "too much testosterone" has comforted many balding men through modern decades, it's probably more about changes in hormonal levels. Men need some estrogen, of course, but we can only get it from testosterone. So, depending on the case, saying "too much testosterone" might basically mean "too much estrogen".
