I've got a gun marked as a greener shotgun (with the martini action), but it has one of those full-length shotgun-rifle conversion inserts for 22 hornet
So nice watching Eric become better and better and more relaxed on camera as the years have passed. Not really a gun guy, but love the energy passion and humour on this channel.
W. W. Greener were high end shotguns in the day. The major competitor of Holland and Holland. Greener's book on "The Gun and its Development," is a classic.
Hey guys I'm a young gun enthusiast and I really appreciate the whole wide range of videos u do! U have given me a great deal of knowledge and I'll always have a use for it! Thank u so very much!
Man i love this gun! cool and easy reloading, nice accuracy, hell of a design, looks like a ton of fun and can chug pretty much anything that says 12 on it...
Thanks Eric! I only said to you a few weeks ago I would love to see a Greener GP fire some slugs and here you are!! Fabulous! One great brush gun! A lot of people in the US mistakenly call these Greener GP's 'Trap guns', however they are not, they are as you call it, just a General Purpose shotgun. They were used mainly in the UK by Game Keepers and farmers to take out rats, foxes, rabbits and the odd pigeon. The Trap gun version had a rib on the top of the barrel, the under lever reshaped down for faster opening over a pistol grip stock instead of the GP straight hand stock, and 'Trap Gun' was stamped into the action. They were made during the early 1960's. Val Forgett of Navy Arms imported some to the US and ‘S.A.C. C9 Ridgefield, NJ’ is stamped on the reverse of the action on these.
Finally a gun on here that I actually own! (Living in the UK). I inherited mine and I love it, I didn't know that it could be taken apart like that either! Thanks for the video, think I might be trying a few cut shells through mine now :)
I watch your videos and find so many guns I want to buy! This one is definitely on the top of my list. It's historic, it's cool, and it's versatile. Great video, man!
I have a Martini action rifle too. My father gave it to me and I don't know when or where he bought it. It has W.R.Pape, stamped on the side of the action. It is a 25/27 caliber for which I cannot find any ammunition anywhere. I remember firing it when I was a kid, but back then as a teenager I didn't have a sweet clue what it all about. Seeing this Greener shotgun here brought back some memories of my rifle. That is one cool shotgun Eric. Thanks for the video on it.
ha! I just saw a video on In Range where Ian Mcollum ran a 2 gun match with one of these.....figured they'd be very rare, really cool to see one in action on another channel
I love these Greeners, I own two, both were police guns with the proprietary 12/14 chambers and the 3 pin strikers. The police cartridges had a trepan groove around the primer that would accept the two outer pins. If the shell didn't have the groove then the center pin would never hit the primer. This prevented the use of 14 gauge rounds wrapped in paper to fit the stepped chamber. You are correct, these were used as measures to prevent stolen guns from being used by the wrong hands. My first Greener I Sporterized almost 40 years ago with a Monte Carlo butt stock and short fore grip, the second still has the full length military fore grip stock (mannlicher style) and straight butt stock. My sons love these scatter guns and I will never part with them. Strong simple actions with a heritage and history that is as vast as the British Empire. Enjoy Iraqveteran8888
Just as well as I am in England or I would be divorced and broke after watching all your uploads.. Unfortunately we cannot own a lot of stuff you review.. Fortunately though we can but these cheaply and easily.. I watched this upload last night and bought two greeners this morning , excellent work buddy!!
In WW1, there was such a shortage of weapons that they actually got these and the Martini-Henry rifles that had been converted to .303 British out of storage to supply support staff in the army and ensure as many Lee-Enfield rifles as possible were on the front line. My great grandfather was a artillery operator and he said that were given one Martini-Enfield, one Greener shotgun and one Webley revolver per team. He said: "If Germans had been able to reach our back lines I think they may of died laughing at how piss poor our weapons were!"
Have to admit that old tool makes beautiful patterns with pretty much every load and shot size.. I'd like me one of these, I think it looks elegant too with that straight stock and Martini-Henry receiver. Thanks for the video, I never knew these things existed :)
When I saw him shoot those green lightning slugs out of that martini shotgun, it reminded me of my first gun I ever had, it was my Remington 20 gauge single shot shotgun. That gun was so light and no matter what you put in it, it kicks like a mule, even when you shoot birdshot out of it, it feels like shooting a 12 gauge slug out of a single shot 12 gauge shotgun, it gives you a bruise on your shoulder call me chicken but when I shoot my mossberg 12 gauge pump, I don't get a bruise.
When I first saw the shotgun I was thinking martini henry! Did these start life as martini henrys or produced from beginning as Greeners with martini henry design? Very cool I've never seen these! Thanks Eric
I swear this guy has sold more guns than anyone. I have a Ruger 10/22 in my closet thanks to Eric and came very close to putting a Mosin or M48 Mauser there to thanks to him.
Originally the large quantity of surplus Martini Henry rifles around the British empire found a use bored out to shotguns, the GP was manufactured as a dedicated low cost shotgun. Lee Enfield rifles sometimes ended up as .410 shotguns too.
Ever since watching this video, I've been on the hunt for a GP. I finally found one after years of looking and no luck prior. Super excited about it! I guess they aren't common in the states, and looking at import costs, they're 3x what these go for, unfortunately.
@@PlanesandGunsI’ve been after one since I got a martini Henry at a gun show 2 years ago- closest I found so far was a greener police shotgun in 12 gauge
We have a lot of these in the UK, love the martini action. I wish someone would revive it for modern calibers. The .22LR ones are fun but I want something a bit beefier.
I have come across quite a few of these guns of various vintage/calibres in the hands of Bedu tribesmen all over the Arab world, and they swear by them, in fact I earned a weeks stay with a tribal group in Yemen by helping with simple maintenance works.
I've seen you've got a couple of the 577/450 martinis and now the Greene shotgun, I just got a martini cadet in .310 Cadet and what a fun little rifle! If you don't have one get one! I'm hoping someday a major manufacturer will make them again. Maybe the full size martini in 12 and 20 and 45-70 and the small action martini in .357 and .22 or 22WMR. They're just great fun and obviously last forever :)
This gun is blowing my mind right now, why there has not been a resurgence of these actions for shotguns is way beyond me, it's like the single shot falling block of shotguns... similar to the Ruger #1-3
FYI, W.W.Greener is still in business and has a long standing history of building the finest double barrel scatter guns Side by Side actions. These Martini's date back to around 1880 when Henry Francotte began their development and the British government adopted them to fight across the globe...
Very cool, first I've heard of it. The only time I've ever heard of Greener was from an old John Wayne movie where he's referring to his double barrel shotguns, I think it was Big Jake. Didn't even know it was British.
Hi I'm looking at buying one to use in Big Game events. It will have a rifled barrel fitted and sights, we shoot slugs. The competition is for Bore guns and they have to be a minimum of 20 gauge and shot at 25/75 and 100 yards. Great fun.

I love lever action single shot guns. learned how to shoot on one. mine was a cheap old break action nothing as cool as that martini
danenakamuraable same here
danenakamuraable mine was a fucking 20 gauge Rossi 22 interchangle single shot
first gun I ever shot was a ruger 10 22
Ol ' Barry would be proud.

Thanks for the memory's had one for year's shot everything with it great gun for duck, fox or rabbits wish I still had it
Could you do a 'How far will a cut shell kill' video. that would be awesome!!
ALL of the ABOVE already done, in the 'how far will a shotgun kill' video
Greener GP, could be a fun gun for an afternoon stroll around the woodlot!

So I'm thinking this is not much of a topic for 8888. But they pulled it off. Very informative, very interesting and very well done. Bravo!
I've been looking for a 2 3/4s Greener (with a full stock, preferably) for a while now; I hope to get my hands on one soon.
BTW Greener recommended the the gun only be dismantled for transort not for cleaning as the threads can wear.
