Wow, this is absolutely beautiful! I love it. The voice, the guitar, the lyrics, and the sentiment. I'm sure your Dad must have loved it, too. Thanks for sharing it.
You are right it is the prettiest and sadess song ever. Im 54 and have loved that song as my fav for 40 years. I love your version. It is aweome. You are smooth and even keel on guitar. Too many people loose rhythym speed up and rush through. It seems natural and easy for you. Your voice, tone and deliverance were great. Your dad had to love it! I did. Great Job! Mike
Vicki, That was just beautiful. Everything is right on the note and beat. I don't know how people do it! My music is all over the place. In between the notes and the beats is that whole range of frequency and time that is dissonant- but not always. Ian and Sylvia's music was a major influence on my heartfelt though lame attempts to play folk music. I can't keep up with the leaders or whiz kids, but can learn from them, usually at about about half-speed! By serendipity I managed to find an interstice in the small field of dulcimer players. The older I get the more it seems that those albums through "Early Morning Rain" were about perfect, and I'm still learning from them. In the early '70s I traveled back and forth from Nova Scotia, and feel as if I lived some of Ian's songs. Thank you for your melodious playing and singing, and for the high respect you have for the song itself. The best folk songs are ones that everyone can understand and feel. Maybe your true love doesn't die when her horse stumbles and falls, like Darcy did; but it's a fact that everyone who comes will just as certainly go. But that's no reason not to love. And Young Vandy will see Darcy Farrow again.
My uncle died recently .. Darcy Farrow was his favorite song! My cousin was named after her .. I am as .. I am so sobbing right now! This ..I am also a 62 year old singer song-writer…please .. and thank you! In
