It may be better to run no bass knob at competitions, but for us with daily drivers, it's priceless to be able to kill the bass when u see a cop vs having to hurry amd low it down or hit the mute button.
The Bass knob is essentially just a potentiometer (variable resistor) which the amp circuitry uses to make comparisons to determine volume level in relation to the set gain of the amplifier. Since all wires have resistance, it's impossible to remove the resistance value of the long wires for the bass remote (there's a voltage drop between the amp and the knob which you can measure with a multimeter). You could also verify this by measuring the resistance value at the end of the cable with the knob both fully up and down. I would recommend anyone removing their bass knob to ensure they recalibrate their amp gain as this additional signal could be introduce clipping which can harm the subwoofer voice coils.
MAX on the bass knob vs base gain on the amp may not be the same. The bass knob is a potentiometer. It may not be calibrated to be exactly matched at 100%, especially if it's not the same one that came with the amp. That is why you should (and probably did) set your gains with the knob installed and at max.
I've only been aware that when you remove the remote bass (or when the wire isn't actually connected to the bass knob) that the gain is essentially maxed. I imagine pulling the remote connection out to power off the amp would be safe enough
I've tested all kind of bass knobs. My last spl cartel knob had 30ohms on 1 channel and 5 on the other, replace with new lc1 4.5 ohms on each channel. Another known good knob, same as the lc1.. I have concluded that I'm just going to control sub level with head unit to get the most out of the system. There simple WILL be resistance in you signal using a bass knob, no way around rather than to delete it... Sucks because i wanted the fancy bass knob and such but it is what it is
Maybe because the bass knob adjusts the bass (well never!!) if you have it at minimum and un-plug it then the bass will jump up to normal so that sudden jump (transient) could cause damage but if you have the bass set to where it would be without the bass knob and un-plug it then the bass will stay where it is and no jump so no damage. Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong or if you know or have any other explanations, thanks.
yo i got a question. my subwoofer won’t make any noise which bass knob plugged in all my wiring is good but when i unplug the wire from the base knob it clips (idk what clip means but i assume just the subwoofer jumping to max gain for a split second) and if i touch the end of the aux cord for the knob, my subwoofer works. i currently have the knob unplugged because i thought it was a problem with it. lmk if you know anything that could help, thanks
Facts! I noticed with my Digital Designs bass knob plugged in it wasnt as low and didnt hit as low for some reason. So now I only plug it in to make sure im not clipping lmao
The set-point of the gain equals the max power that will be output to the sub. Installing a potentiometer allows the gain to be decreased from the set-point. You wont get 100% because they use a resistor that has 1% tollerance
Funny you asked... i got a Orion XTR15001DZ class D 1500 watt amp. At 1st I was lazy to run the line for the bass knob, when I put the knob in?? The knob killed the bass. Muffled it horribly. I simply disconnected the knob, bass ROCKS again. SOO.. with mine NOOO BASS knob!!

I'm confused. Why would the gain be at max for a test and the bass knob be at zero for the other test? I was under the impression that the knob controlled the gain from zero to max. I'm I trippin?
When you disconnect the knob, the system reverts to the physical gain level set at the amp. Or if you are talking about the knob being turned to the left, that knob is MAX all the way to the left, rather than right.
The bass knob doesn't control the gain - only the output, you want to set your gain with the knob disconnected or turned all the way up, then when you max out the knob you don't have to worry about the gain getting messed up
What about the spl cartel bass knob? Is that not hooked up either? I've heard of the rca bass knobs changing output as well. So far I've had good luck with my bass knobs

The cheaper pac inline rca bass knobs can lower the voltage going to your amp for instance say your head unit has 3 sets of rcas front rear and sub and all 3 have 5 volt pre outs the rcas with the bass knob tapped into the rcas even at full tilt on knob the amp might only be seeing 3.5 volts were ass a bass knob that comes with the amp plugs into amp will have no effect on rca voltage
All that difference in that 3/4 db down at 118 d. These potentiometer's are made cheaply and even the good ones you lose about a half DB total volume due to wire resistence. Anyone with a RF amp with the c.l.e.a.n. system, where do you set the bass knob during the setup up for the input clipping? Instructions don't say anything until you set output gain.
trunkbangking yeah I keep seeing these comments and it’s confusing the hell out of me. The max of the knob is only going to be whatever your gain is set to. So how would it get louder. That would mean that your knob is raising your voltage past what the gain is set to which could put you into a clipped signal.

Yo Jacob. I got some problems with my system I have hooked up in my 2009 ford flex. Wondering if you might be able to answer a few question that I got?
Sometimes cutting gain back and adding a couple db bass boost on a specific frequency on persay 4th and 6th order boxes, generally you do wanna set your amp gain acordingly after boost, you can actually gain on the meeter by doing so if your searching for db, you can use a dsp and use it like you would your normal radio but in this case you'd have more ajustibility on the low end and top end extension this also would allow you to set crossovers and slopes Wich I have always suggested for said order alignment boxes, because it really brings them to life the point in having high order bandpass boxes is to add another "afc" amplified frequency curve Wich helps said driver with amplification of output, by helping the driver load, you can run high order alignments with the shit mentioned but the overall performance is not as should be,
What I've learned is where u set ur amp with no bass knob it what it is, when u add bass knob shit changes just like u seen. But u have the 2nd bass knob. Maybe that was a factor. I just got my 1st bass knob a blew my amp speaker matched sub. Hard 2 understand all these different things in Audio.

You’ll be safe after some voltage drop and rise impedance change. Just set your amp crossovers right lpf, subsonic, and gain properly and your golden. Match your gain to head unit rca voltage.
What’s the purpose of a knob? Shouldn’t have to adjust you amps. Should be set and forget it. Want more or less bass just adjust the equalizers on the stereo.
@@JacobViral2 Seems you would ruin the balance of the subs in relation to the rest of the system by doing this. Seems the equalizers should be flat during set up but after you should adjust the equalizers on the stereo.

Bass knob all the at up when tuning always the gain
Why didn't you do full tilt and test I am very interested in the difference at full tilt
I heard a while back that unplugging gain remote makes it louder usually
Its not a gain knob..its an attenuator
trunkbangking yeah I keep seeing these comments and it’s confusing the hell out of me. The max of the knob is only going to be whatever your gain is set to. So how would it get louder. That would mean that your knob is raising your voltage past what the gain is set to which could put you into a clipped signal.
NOOOBS. LOL THE KNOB IS FOR THE COPS AND YOUR GRANDPARENTS FOES! LOL COMMON I THOUGHT YOU KNEW!
Jersey Piney I don’t why it would either. And I never tested for it. I guess I could test it today and see if I get more wattage and db’s.
I just tested and I was always a little louder on meter with the remote unplugged. 👍🏻
I need help i dont much about this tho, i bought and amp from a friend it is a 2000w audiofonics that came without the bass control knob, i wanna get one but i dont wich one it needs, i look at the amp and it has a six cable/pin phone like connection. I'll appreciate any help
Unless you can get from the manufacturer replacement I wouldn’t trust just any bass knob that may not be compatible and could damage amp. You could always get an rca bass knob instead: amzn.to/3rGt0Q9
Jacob I tryed this my system is louder. I have the skar RP 2000
Nice!
All it does give you an option to reduce the bass while diving and not your radio !
Yeah, that’s the point. It’s a bass knob
@@lxldxxxvid I’m just getting into subs, does a bass knob lower the bass your subs make? Like if I were driving and turned it down to the minimum would the bass be quiet?
There is nothing wrong with bass knobs. Sometimes you might want to listen to your music without it being so loud. Then when the time is right up can slam in seconds
I noticed taking my bass non out my system was a bit louder
hi, connecting the bass knob remote have totally no effect for me. The amplifier does not seem to respond to the knob. What could be the reason?
Short in the wire or amp. Or non compatible with the amp. Also can use an rca bass knob like a LC1
@@JacobViral2 thanks for your answer. It comes with the soundstream picassco P1000 monoblock amp. I ran the wire under the carpet nicely and then its not working. I am thinking if I could get a RCA knob or replace the current wire. I couldn't find the wire on amazon.
@@JacobViral2 my amp is still playing, does that safely suggest its probably a short in the wire and not the amp?
Yo Jacob. I got some problems with my system I have hooked up in my 2009 ford flex. Wondering if you might be able to answer a few question that I got?
Whats up man, ask away, maybe i can help. I like troubleshootin pow, pow.
Sure message me on Instagram or Facebook Jacob viral. Comment away for me and others to assist to.
I was going to get my amp installed but I can't find a bass knob for it they dont make them for my amp anymore do I need one?
Get a rca bass knob: amzn.to/3PdSUo5 ; don’t need amp knob
My crossover has a bass knob. It definitely helps the bass with it plugged in.
what crossover you have
seems like in every video you have your settings on the amp is different why is that ?
Fine tuning the amp for better quality output
Sometimes cutting gain back and adding a couple db bass boost on a specific frequency on persay 4th and 6th order boxes, generally you do wanna set your amp gain acordingly after boost, you can actually gain on the meeter by doing so if your searching for db, you can use a dsp and use it like you would your normal radio but in this case you'd have more ajustibility on the low end and top end extension this also would allow you to set crossovers and slopes Wich I have always suggested for said order alignment boxes, because it really brings them to life the point in having high order bandpass boxes is to add another "afc" amplified frequency curve Wich helps said driver with amplification of output, by helping the driver load, you can run high order alignments with the shit mentioned but the overall performance is not as should be,
Remember on an amp i bought the bass knob never even worked was a boss i think
Well that's why
I bought one 1000 watts. And the bass knob works perfect
This is something I most definitely didn't know about but taking it into consideration. I don't think running my Slam Panda bass knob would effect anything
Did you check at what voltage you got those test?
14.4-14.6
what apps are you using?
Ssa studio app with device dB Meter xplicitaudio.com/product-category/installation/tools/?ref=3229 req
Very satisfying video .. 👌🏾
Thanks! More coming daily thanks for watching and subscribing
Your right about not removing remote cable while amp us on, I had an amp pop and burn up on me and I wasnt to happy afterwards.
How’d you fix it? I just did this lol
@@Vendetta0309 It keep flashing and going into protect mode. I'm not gonna lie, I had the same amp burn up like 3 times before i got it right. Once was my fault while the alle key fell from my grasp and fell and touched body of amp and power input and burned instantly. Other time I accidentally inserted the wrong phone jack into the sfb and popped and never came out of protection mode. 3rd time I had it connected and playing for about 10 mins and took a ride and before I could make it 100 ft from my house, my sfb just went into flames while playing Bret Michaels- Every rose has its thorn and I lost it after that. Finally sent that back to sundown and they sent me an brand new amp with an extra bass knob and I've have it on my shelf as of now
@@Vendetta0309 short answer, if it keeps going into protect mode send it back to sundown, they were great with customer service...
@@RomaVilla so once that pops and smokes up there’s no way fixing it?
@@Vendetta0309 it's dead, probably a mosfet inside that needs to be replaced. Unless you know how to fix amps internally send it back
I thought when working with anything electrical to remove the NEGATIVE terminal on the battery..... How you pop fused and worse
My amp keep.going to.protect mode then.later that day driving sub started working ?
Sounds like your clipping or overhauling amp and causing it to protect. Check if it’s clipping and hot.
@@JacobViral2 whats clipping
@@JacobViral2 worked good last night after I redid the ground
My bass nob when put to max has 0 bass and when I unplug it my bass is crazy maby it’s my fault I messed up on something any ideas?
Could be reversed or faulty knob?
What name of the socket?
Interesting...i would have just unplugged it tho instead of shutting the vehicle off and doing the test right after startup
Remote is ok to remove I would be removing and adding rcas tho.
I've never used my bass knob. Got a box full of them lol
Do you have a hifonics 8 pin cable by chance ?
Got any for the RFpunch 801s/ 1001bd
Sell one to me...🇿🇦👌🏼
pls
People use them for the clip light... the rca knobs are better
My Audiobahn amp pops when I turn it up or down with knob why is that?
Sounds like a short in connection
U should run a single soundqubed hdx3 18
Your 100% right I used to run 1 18 hdx3 on about 2200 rms watts of hifonics power now I got 2 18 hdx3 on 2 ohms bridged about 3600 rms watts and it hits!
What amp?
Soundqubed 2200
I broke my signal cable connector is it RJ12 ?
Can someone help me? I'm installing a 1000w rms amp and have a 600w rms sub, how do I set my amp up to not blow my sub? Before someone decides to be a smart ass, I'm super green to car sound. Thank you😁
You’ll be safe after some voltage drop and rise impedance change. Just set your amp crossovers right lpf, subsonic, and gain properly and your golden. Match your gain to head unit rca voltage.
What app are you using for the measurement?
SSA Studio app with the device for it
My amp keeps going in protection mode someone said to unplug the knob and it should go to normal idk
If it’s only when playing high volume levels then that’s the problem.
Yup I've heard exactly what your results showed
What’s the purpose of a knob? Shouldn’t have to adjust you amps. Should be set and forget it. Want more or less bass just adjust the equalizers on the stereo.
For ease of use to adjust bass output with the knob as some want to turn it off or down some songs.
@@JacobViral2 Seems you would ruin the balance of the subs in relation to the rest of the system by doing this. Seems the equalizers should be flat during set up but after you should adjust the equalizers on the stereo.
I use knobs only on old school fosgate punch amps
what cat size ethernet cable are you using
Just the one that came with the amp
@@JacobViral2 mine didn’t come with one but thank you so much for the response i figured it out already
how would i use rca bass knob if my amp only has 1 set of rca input
Usually a bass knob rca has input and output so it runs through the bass knob first.
yea i watched a few more vids and realized that the knob go’s in between the amp and the head unit rcas, i originally thought that both rcas on the bass knob were input and i need 2 sets of rca, one from head unit to knob and one from amp to knob but i realize now how it goes
Is the cable an RJ11 ?
Similar yes
A bassknob is use when you dont have no equalizer if you have a equalizer you dont need it because the equalizer does have a sub level
An eq has nothing to do with using your bass and lots of people have eq,s and use a bass knob they are so you can turn your subs down when you don't want to hear them as loud when you want them to beat harder you turn it up
I want it lol thanks for the video Jacob
Do a video at hih volume
When you can hear 3/4 db difference
That’s so odd I wonder if it’s a loss of voltage.
