Hovind isn't even trying at this point.
More background on Paul Hansen. He used to be a slumlord, renting out apartments in buildings that were in terrible condition. The city would issue citations and summons for code violations (they really weren't fit for living in), and Hansen would clog up the courts with his sovereign citizen nonsense, one time even going as far as denying his name on the court documents because it was capitalized (a sov. cit thing). So the judge simply declared Hansen not present in the courtroom and ended the proceeding.

@@SlowDay1651 Well half a million, with some days up to four or five deposits or withdrawals JUST under the 10,000 Dollar treshold of which the bank has then to notify the authorities. So it's not even just an accident, it was a conscious scheme. And it did not work out as the bank notified the authorities anyway over this persistent pattern of NOT getting past the treshold.
@@Ugly_German_Truths I remember the few times I had to withdraw cash from the bank, the bank wouldn't let me get $9,000 one time. They told me to get $10,000 and then deposit $1,000 back in just to make myself safe from authorities. I wasn't doing anything illegal, but good on my bank to inform me of what I could do to help myself.
So, by my experience, anyone doing it even twice would have probably been reported as sus right away. The only other time I withdrew a large amount, it was $11.5k so no issues there lmao

@@ObjectiveZoomer Because law does not work the way that you can decide "I will only submit to laws that i LIKE". Obviously there always will be laws many people do not agree with. If we would make it voluntary to submit under those and a court would first have to check off the list to see under what "authority" you willingly "consent", it would be chaos and almost anarchy... If you recognize SOME rights, you have to accept ALL of them being valid on the same basis.
Now that does not mean that you could not or should not by democratical means try to overthrow the laws you disagree with, but that is still a different thing from Doctor Spongebrains "i do not accept that i have broken the law, but now will sue you for breaking it yourself" stance.
But as it has a lot of similarities to his stance towards "natural law" and how he refuses to accept half of those physical, biological and chemical "laws" based on nothing more than that they would make his whole belief ridiculous, Kent simply does not get reality and how you cannot pick and choose from it.

It's time to start acting like a grown-up, and admit that you've been beat, Kent. Paul's the better man and he's had your number since day one.
When Hovind and Hansen were in prison, they took a petty criminal from Florida who was awaiting trial under their wing and completely screwed his defense -- encouraging him to reject a plea deal that would have gotten him five years, and trying their sovereign citizen garbage instead. He ended up getting 20 years instead (it was his third strike).
Don't feel too sorry for him, though. He managed to get his 20 year sentence overturned recently and was release with time served, but within months he'd been arrested two or three more times, and he's back in prison, completely squandering his lucky break.

In the early 1980's I was in my late teens and attending an Independent Fundamental Baptist church that went through a sovereign citizen period that ended with the Pastor being arrested for operating an unlicensed vehicle without an operators license. He spent about a month is county jail most of it for contempt because he refused to recognize the courts jurisdiction over himself. He eventually saw the error of his ways. It was some crazy shit.I can look back and say that I was young and gullible.I was out of that church a few years later. It took another 20 years to shed the yoke of religion altogether.

Last month, I drove down to the San Luis Valley of Colorado for a vacation. I made a point of stopping by Kent Hovind's alma mater/diploma mill, Patriot Bible University. If you pay $2,000 or so to Patriot, they will mail you a doctorate. Any time Hovind mentions that he has a PhD, that is what he is referring to.
And if you are not paying taxes $2,000 is easy to find, especially if you are effectively crowd-funded by a gullible flock.
Ever read his dissertation? It was leaked and is available online. This bullshit is so incredible embarassing, it's literally on the level of a 7th grader whose intelligence is under average. They could just as well do without any dissertations or just piles of blank paper.

Many Americans believe that the big-picture story of evolution, as biology professors routinely expound it, is false.1 Basically, they haven't bought into the concept that all life descended from one common ancestor that miraculously sprang into being millions of years ago. And that makes sense, considering there are no real examples of that kind of evolution.
If evolutionary biologists could document such evolution in action, they could vindicate their worldview and cite real research to support their surreal claims. In 1980, this search for proof led researchers to painstakingly and purposefully mutate each core gene involved in fruit fly development. The now classic work, for which the authors won the Nobel Prize in 1995, was published in Nature.2 The experiments proved that the mutation of any of these core developmental genes―mutations that would be essential for the fruit fly to evolve into any other creature―merely resulted in dead or deformed fruit flies. This therefore showed that fruit flies could not evolve.
Similarly, Michigan State University evolutionary biologists Richard Lenski and his colleagues searched for signs of evolution in bacteria for 20 years, tracking 40,000 generations.3 In the end, the species that they started with was hobbled by accumulated mutations, and the only changes that had occurred were degenerative. University of Bristol emeritus professor of bacteriology Alan Linton summarized the situation:

Many Americans believe that the big-picture story of evolution, as biology professors routinely expound it, is false.1 Basically, they haven't bought into the concept that all life descended from one common ancestor that miraculously sprang into being millions of years ago. And that makes sense, considering there are no real examples of that kind of evolution.
If evolutionary biologists could document such evolution in action, they could vindicate their worldview and cite real research to support their surreal claims. In 1980, this search for proof led researchers to painstakingly and purposefully mutate each core gene involved in fruit fly development. The now classic work, for which the authors won the Nobel Prize in 1995, was published in Nature.2 The experiments proved that the mutation of any of these core developmental genes―mutations that would be essential for the fruit fly to evolve into any other creature―merely resulted in dead or deformed fruit flies. This therefore showed that fruit flies could not evolve.

We also know that various sugars and lipids also form spontaneously under conditions present on primordial earth.
Complexity didn't have to arise suddenly.

I grew up in a group of fundie evangelical Baptists that would have viewed a lot of Kent's theology as heresy (and they view the NIFB the same way), so I never heard about Kent until after I left Christianity and started getting into RUclips Atheism, which was about 2009-2011. By that point, there were a few times ppl would go over one of his old videos, but overall he was mostly a tiny blip on ppl's radar as he was in prison and had lost most of his following (which had moved on to his son's ministry or to AiG).
I do remember going to a presentation from Ken Ham. It was probably around 2006-2007, I don't remember really. I remember Dad wasn't very impressed, but Dad also really enjoys watching nature documentaries (despite being a creationist AFAIK) so he more than likely found Ken's understanding of biology and nature to be childish at best. I believe someone from AiG also came to the Bible College I was attending at the time too. There was a lot of criticism from the students as well, although it was primarily focused on Biblical accuracy. It was the professional evangelist that got the most scrutiny from my classmates - pretty much everyone thought his "sermons" were pathetic, poorly structured, and had little to no basis in the Bible. I guess he heard the complaints, cuz he tried to include more Bible verses in later sermons (he was there for a "revival week") and then got completely roasted by the student body because he took the verses completely out of context and tried to make completely inane points that had almost nothing to do with what the verses actually said.
Sorry, I got lost in the weeds there. Preaching to ppl that are actively studying the Bible and learning how to preach (the men anyway, although I bet many of us women could prepare sermons just as well) can't be easy. And we clearly intimidated a lot of the guest speakers - especially if they had to give multiple sermons to us.

And yes, having been raised YEC, it is very much a cult - even though it may not really seem like it until one finally gets free from it. They're very insular and they've very careful about cultivating their echo chamber and making sure that members have all kinds of tools at their disposal to automatically dismiss anything that might contradict their views - I've been through it myself. It's almost a trained call and respond in a way. You hear the words that tell you an argument over YEC/evolution is coming and you stop listening and just start spouting talking points. The only things you really listen for are key words which tell you which canned answer you should use. And most importantly, you never ever spend time thinking about what "evolutionists" say after the fact.
Oh and they also try to keep as much of your relationships within the group as possible in order to put that added pressure on members to keep them from leaving. If everyone you're close to and rely on socially, financially, emotionally, etc are all in that group, you can't openly disagree with that group for fear of being kicked out and having that support group cut off from you. It's not exactly shunning, but it's really not that dissimilar. I've definitely seen pastors encourage members not to tolerate "heresy" in their homes and in their close relationships.
YEC cults tend to hover right on the edge of cult behavior. They're not overly controlling or involved in personal lives for the most part (although there's definitely churches that do go down that route), but at the same time they want to control what you think and believe about the world around you and heavily encourage members to limit their "exposure" to "the World" as much as possible. And if you leave the group? Unless you're rejoining the group and admitting you were wrong, they want nothing to do with you.
Marrying anyone outside the group is very heavily frowned upon as well - so you'll have pressure from your spouse, kids, in-laws, etc to stay in the group with the threat that you may lose some of the most important relationships to you if you no longer believe. There's a lot of social pressure put on members to conform.
It's very hard to walk away when you know it'll mean being ostracized from everyone you know. Remember, most YEC groups insist that you can't be a "True" Christian if you accept evolution. They will often treat members who move in that direction as though they have left Christianity.
But there's also some that say it's not a salvation issue. I think my parents would fall into that category, but at the same time they would definitely keep their distance from those who do accept evolution - or at least no longer be quite as friendly/open with them. There would be an awkwardness there and topics that they're clearly trying to avoid mentioning. Kinda like when they interact with Methodists, Presbyterians, and Lutherans: "I understand that you're saved and going to heaven, but that's about the only thing you've got right about Christianity. I'm going to keep discussions as general as I can to avoid arguing."
For the record, my parents are General Association of Regular Baptist Churches (GARBC) version of Baptists. They can't stand the Independent Fundamentalist Baptists (IFB or their spin off group NIFB) - after all, those guys are Calvinists! And everyone knows Calvinists are weird elitists, rude, and just generally awful ppl. They are _not_ good representations of Christianity or Christ's love. 😂

This is another fantastic video and relevant to your goal of educating the masses about the dangers of believing in young earth creationism. I've long wondered if Hovind is as innocent as he claims. Though I'm an atheist, I've had little appreciation for ad hominem quips from other atheist RUclipsrs about his incarceration. I didn't see how questionable tax laws were pertinent to the creation vs. evolution debate. This video demonstrates Hovind's deception and flagrant disregard for the law; he bends the rules until they fit his idea of Eutopia. It shows how Kent's confirmation bias rules multiple (all?) aspects of his life. There's no evidence (that I see) he's searching for truths in anything. I believe anyone wanting to listen to Hovind should understand Kent's deep need to defend himself and his beliefs above anything and everything else. This video points this out so beautifully.

Breaking tax laws and setting himself up in court as "sovereign citizen" (although i think Kent goes by Freeman on the Land, which used to be more a british thing) show that he lacks honesty and integrity in his actions with the government. It is in so far relevant for the Evolution debate as a dishonest Kent is not a good source on reliable information.

“Unjustly incarcerated”as all criminals say. Lol. As a retired police officer, I have to say I have never talked to anyone in jail who has told me they were justly incarcerated.
I made a bad mistake in my filing and got hit with a gigantic tax penalty, but I phoned them and they were very attentive, and I sent in a correction, and they took everything off no problem. The IRS was competent, professional, courteous, and quick.

And they even are too stupid to realize that by claiming such absurd amounts all they will achieve is making some lawyer filthy stinking rich as their rates directly depend on the value (not the merit! :D) of the case. 500 million is a good windfall for any legal company and even if he represents himself (which would guarantee an abject failure) the court's fees also depend on such things, so he just will pay obscene amounts for his day in court that he wouldn't have needed to pay if he had even SOME insight into how the world works. Probably will end up in civil bankruptcy as his shitty sandpit isn't worth nearly enough to cover any such costs.
