  • When it comes to Kent Hovind and Eric Hovind... like father, like son. Logicked became a legend with his "Hello, My Name is Kent Hovind" series... and now we team up to take a look at the young-earth creation family claims about Jupiter, Ganymede, the Sahara desert, the earth's magnetic field and carbon-dating mammoths.

The nonscientist addressing nonscientists didn't accurately represent science. Shocking.
The dishonest problems are when they intentionally misrepresent the science and present themselves as some scientific authority.
Serious problems occur if a personality cult trusts their leader more than scientists on scientific questions.
The science vs creationism "debate" isn't really a debate. It's an attempt to convince people their side is better.
Well, on the plus side, a lot of people learn a lot of science because of the usually silly debates.

I'm at a point where I can not figure out if Kent and Eric KNOW that what they are saying is complete and total bullshit and just plan to make money off those who are too willfully ignorant to check any of their claims. Or if they honestly believe what they are saying. If they just have the ability to pull these mental gymnastics on themselves. It seems Kent knows he's lying, which is why he uses such tactics as "That's just stupid, it's dumb!" He doesn't have to provide real evidence when he makes smart people SOUND stupid to his congregation, who he knows absolutely WILL NOT do their own research. Eric however, I think he believes what he's saying is true...because his dad has beat it into his head the same way he does his congregation. That's why Eric literally can not and will not do his own research and write his own speeches. That's why he only gives his father's lessons. They are both unapologetically terrible people. Can't wait to watch this next installment.

Was kind of hoping this would have different content from the one on Logicked's channel. All the same, subbed to you to, so I'll try watching some more of your vids. I just don't tend to care about religion debunks anymore. I'm more of a conspiracy theory/flat earth kinda guy, which I suppose in a lot of ways usually circles back to religion in one way or another anyway, but, idk, shrug, lol.

I think the total energy absorbed should also be proportional to the exposed surface area,
So, 1/27th the energy for equal sized areas of the Earth and Jupiter, but summed over the total surface area.

28:00 I seem to recall seeing somewhere that "present" in climate science papers means the year 1950, so 5440 years before present +/- 30 is between 3680 BCE and 3540 BCE

And from the the Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy: "The table gives a heat ratio of 1.9. This is the ratio of energy that Jupiter emits to the energy absorbed from the Sun. Why does Jupiter emit almost twice the energy that it absorbs from the Sun? Partly because Jupiter is still shrinking and the contraction due to gravity produces heat, and partly because it is still cooling down from the time when it was formed. The planets and the Sun all formed at the same time, 4.6 billion years ago. All the planets were a lot hotter when they formed, and Jupiter is so big that it is taking a long time to cool down"

Well because the foundation of their beliefs are based from people that didn't know what they were talking about. And if they admit the Bible is wrong then their beliefs crumble.
      I guess.

From your Jupiter bit there would be a fair bit of radiogenic heat from Uranium and other heavy elements which didn’t end up in the rocky planets.
I have seen it proposed that there could be tritium production in the core from proximity to breakdown or Uranium etc and that that could fuse due to the high temperatures and pressures any that the Tritium will still be extra unstable due to having just been made.
The trouble is we can’t just calculate the heat the radiogenic / fusion/ fission etc sources are adding because that would just slow the compaction of the core and we can’t measure the core directly because there is most of the radius of an enormous gas ball between us and it....

    • @borttorbbq2556
      @borttorbbq2556 4 года назад

Yes radioactive decay is one of the primary sources of heat from it

Lord Kelvin calculated the age of the Earth based on the idea that it must have been cooling since its formation in 1862 he arrived at the figure of 100 million years, but this was before the concept of radioactive decay had been discovered.
