The flying one is just genius. I love how it looks, how it moves, it's a marvel of costume ingenuity. I absolutely love it to bits and wish I could see it with my own eyes.
I think I like the Dumbo's Circus Parade costume the most. Say what you will about the bighead costumes, but I find it really clever that the hat was used for the performers head, making him look shorter (after all, Dumbo IS supposed to be a baby), and that the ears were controlled by the performers arms. I don't know why, but I find that to be really creative and innovative, especially since they only used him in the Circus Parade, so there wouldn't be any complaints about limited interactivity unlike the other bighead costumes, since he wasn't used in meet and greets at all.
The 1979 version is absolutely the best. I still remember being a child at Disney world and seeing that version. I thought the costume was designed so well, because I absolutely loved how organically the ears moved, just like human arms; because the ears, as it turns out, were actually arms!
I actually think the 4:25 dumbo puppet is much better then the 7:59 one, It looks exactly like the original cartoon version, with the bigger head and slouched posture. It's lovely!
I always thought that the Dumbo the flew over the castle during Magical was an animatronic. That's how Steven Davison made it sound. Also, I never knew that Dumbo ever had character meet and greets. Great video. I love these Distory segments
I think it would be cool if you did the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. I saw some costumes of him in the background of the pictures in this video and noticed that they used a human face. The costumes that I have seen today have a full head. Just a suggestion :3
My BFF and me are doing a play she is white rabbit I am the 3rd litte pig. The play is like Court with the 3 little pigs and the wolf. She is the authority of Defense. the coment will be really long if I explained the rest. BYE
@@damonkegurl9259 he said the same performer that plays tinker bell is put into that costume. He said her feet control dumbos front feet, one hand controls the nose and the other controls the ears :)

I believe so, but you'd probably have a better chance of finding an actual flying elephant irl than finding a costumed Dumbo at any of the parks, lol (or at least as far as one you can actually interact with). Yeah, they're THAT rare.
I was so excited when I saw Dumbo in the Electrical Parade as a kid, I took a picture of him and had it on my wall for a long time. I don't know where it is now. Side note: Oh geez, what did they do to Scrooge and Gyro at 5:43 ?!
Thank you for including Dumbo's Circus in your list. I grew up watching it on the Disney Channel and was a big fan of all the character costumes on the show. It is definitely one of the best versions of Dumbo. However the best is still the actual Dumbo that flies over the castle. When I first saw him over Sleeping Beauty castle I immediately began to cry as memories of Dumbo's Circus from my childhood began flooding my mind. Pure Disney magic!
Awe I felt something in my heart when I saw the picture of the 1985 Dumbo so I clicked on the video. I used to love that show!! I had forgotten all about it. ❤️
Hello again Dan! Wonderful video as always. Since we’re talking about Dumbo, I’ve actually made several puppets of some of the characters ( Timothy Mouse, the crows and my favourite, Mr Stork) and I usually impersonate the voices since i’m a ventriloquist. Mr Stork’s voice (which was provided by the talented and adorable Sterling Holloway) is actually the easiest voice to impersonate 😊
It would also give him an opportunity to give the "Welcome to Pooh Corner" costumes honorable mention for the same reasons as the "Dumbo's Circus" Dumbo.
OMG! I had no idea that Dumbo went through SO many changes. I remember watching Dumbo's Circus when I was a kid. That Dumbo is one of my favs. Can't wait to see the Tim Burton version!
The last version of Dumbo is perfect and very impressive !!! :-) By the way why the "Disney costume department" was so incapable to Copy and design just one correct mascot costume all these years? They simply could take collectible statue characters and study them in their 3D shape form, so they can have better result for designing the mascot heads properly. Can you create a video about the "Mad hatter" costume? Thank you. 👍
I got to meet Dumbo last December at a College Program event! It was the second to last one in the thumbnail, aka Cartoon Dumbo of the 90's! He could wave his little feather around with his trunk and was adorable! A little worse for wear but made me grin!
Dumbo:hey kid me:yeah dumbo:let's dance me OK:does take the L Dumbo takes me to the creepy MICKEY mouse Scary Mickey; BOO me has heart attack Walt: We are quiting ice cepaids
The 2009 one is clearly the best because he can actually fly, and looks very real when you see it from that distance. I wish they'd bring that show back again for a season or two...
Awesome video!!! I never even knew Dumbo was in the Disney theme parks as a costume character, so this video was very informative to me. Keep up the good work :)
Hmmmm...was there a Winnie the Pooh series with costumed characters on the Disney Channel at the same time as Dumbo's Circus? I swear I remember watching something like that with a little girl I was next door neighbors with when I was little. I watched it with her because at the time Disney Channel wasn't part of basic cable and my parents chose not to add it, which was just as well as the Disney Afternoon was syndicated and that was mainly what I cared about. I love these videos! Thank you!
AHHHHH YES! DUMBOOO!!! THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE CHARACTER OF ALL TIME! man! I wish they'd make a meet and greet dumbo! it be so amazing to get a hug and a picture from the coolest character to ever exist!
Naturally, my favourite Dumbo is the one you can ride. That's the one I remember from Disneyland (my sister and cousin loved it so much they would cry until they got to ride it). It seems that unlike most of the cartoon characters, Dumbo actually works kind of well as a big-head suit. It probably helps that he doesn't really have arms, so it isn't as weird he can't move them (and the arm-ears actually make quite a bit of sense).
This is the first of your videos that I have seen. WOW! So much information and so interesting! Looking forward to bingeing/binging on more. Mickey and Minnie are next, then Donald (?) Thank you for this channel. It promises to be very interesting. SUBBED!
How did they struggle to make such a cute character a cute costume as well? All of these are terrifying and do him no Justice, at least until the flying one.
Hello Dan. I’ve enjoyed your character videos and have two related questions to ask. Has there ever been a costumed Timothy Mouse in any of the Disney parks (in particular Disneyland)? I am a big Dumbo fan and would love to know more about the characters and their connections to the parks. Here’s question #2. What’s the history of Jiminy Cricket inside the parks? I’ve seen very little of him at Disneyland in the videos I’ve watched. I’d love to see a Jiminy Cricket evolution video. Jiminy should be utilized more. Thanks.
I would love to see you do any of the lion king characters! I saw a really awesome Simba puppet at animal kingdom a few years back and I'd love to see any other costumes they've done for him
Disney dan, I believe that you should get a Disney show. It would be a big hit and, pretty much a free advert. I hope you continue to grow and become a huge channel. I will recommend you to anyone who likes Disney.

Hell no. That costume is creepy as fuck.
I swear you'd have a better chance of finding an actual flying elephant than finding a Dumbo meet and greet character at Disneyland. He's THAT rare.
Truth.
I didn’t even know there even was a Dumbo costume until now...and I’ve been to Walt Disney World alot
Yes!
I went to Disneyworld once and only meat Pluto

u met dumbo? wow ur lucky
The Dumbo pupped if absolutely freaking adorable!!! But I think my favorite is the 1985 Dumbo’s Circus version, he’s so cute and chubby!!!!
I actually think the 4:25 dumbo puppet is much better then the 7:59 one, It looks exactly like the original cartoon version, with the bigger head and slouched posture. It's lovely!
pretty true
I think if his head was a bit bigger then he would be better. (at 7:59)
I always thought that the Dumbo the flew over the castle during Magical was an animatronic. That's how Steven Davison made it sound. Also, I never knew that Dumbo ever had character meet and greets. Great video. I love these Distory segments

Wow!
Dumbo went through a lot of changes!
And those "hand stand” costumes were crazy!
...But not as crazy as that FLYING costume!
That looks so cool!
The flying Dumbo is by far the best! He looks EXACTLY like he does in the movie!
Is there currently a costumed Dumbo in the parks? Also, I'd love to see the evolution of Winnie the Pooh's costume.
Jumbo Jr...
I believe so, but you'd probably have a better chance of finding an actual flying elephant irl than finding a costumed Dumbo at any of the parks, lol (or at least as far as one you can actually interact with). Yeah, they're THAT rare.
I loved that Disney channel Dumbo show but had completely forgotten it existed.😃😀😊
Over time, Disney's character designs get better, but then they reach a point where they make the characters look horrifying. Wtf disney 😳
I was so excited when I saw Dumbo in the Electrical Parade as a kid, I took a picture of him and had it on my wall for a long time. I don't know where it is now. Side note: Oh geez, what did they do to Scrooge and Gyro at 5:43 ?!

Can u do pooh and friends
You For You Productions It would be a nice transition, since both Dumbo and Pooh and Disney Channel shows that had costumed characters.

Evolution of Captain Hook
rewatching this in 2021 and realizing how much you’ve been able to come out of your shell since this upload!!
Anyone feel like Disney could do better than this
Ryan O'Neill absolutely
yes
Ryan O'Neill the third version was so damn cute
Yes
Awesome! Now you need to do Daisy Duck.
How about Pinocchio? Mainly because there's something not quite right about the old Ice Capades version. Particularly the nose.
I love dumbo because he’s so cute!😍🐘
1949 - 1955 - 1959 - 1979 - 1981 1985 - 1990 - 1998 - 2009 - 2017
I love the flapping wings character...both the one you can meet and the flying puppet. :)
I’m not a huge Dumbo fan, but the terrifying first picture pulled me in.

I knew that even in the earliest days of dumb costumes they'd ALWAYS be adorable.
Lol I feel like with the Dumbo evolution they would take two steps forward than ten steps back. Love your evolution videos!!!!👍🏽👍🏽

Idk why but every time I saw his ears flop I would move my phone back and forth 😹
This was a Awsome evolution dan thank you
I'd have to go with the costume used for Dumbo's Circus, cause I grew up watching that show. Plus Katie Leigh's voice for him was pretty good. ;)
Dumbo was still kinda cute tho
I'm living for theseeee!! Please do Daisy next! 🤗👏🏼

Either Captain Hook, Daisy Duck, or Scrooge McDuck for the next video, please.

I would love to see you do one of these with Ariel!!

Do pooh bear next!!!! Love your vids!
An actual flying Dumbo. . . . awwwwwww literally the cutest!!
Freaking love this series!!!
Dumbo's earlier form may look odd but at least he wasn't terrifying as Minnie and Mickey Mouse.
I remember the old live Dumbo Circus.TV show :D I love that show, when growing up :D
Saw the 90s version of Dumbo when I went to Disneyland for the 50th Anniversary. He was in the Electrical Parade.

+Jeremy Bixson awesome! Thanks for sharing!
No problem! Thanks for making such cool videos!
The hand standing elephants were so cool
I think a lot of these are actually really nice
There's a new Dumbo movie will be released this coming 2019.
I always look forward to these videos
I mean for the most part dumbo has always been super cute..... I mean mickey and Minnie were straight up nightmare inducing.
Disney dan, I believe that you should get a Disney show. It would be a big hit and, pretty much a free advert. I hope you continue to grow and become a huge channel. I will recommend you to anyone who likes Disney.
I know they still use the 1990's Dumbo at Disney World in the College Program. I saw it in someone's recent vlog from their program graduation day.
Stitch please
"This Dumbo is at Disneyland ONLY." *shows it in front of Cinderella Castle and MK circus meet-and-greet*
These are so fun to watch♥️
Disney Dan, for the next Distory video, can you do Pinocchio?
Kudos to the performer who is in the flying Dumbo!!!
