I'm so glad you made an instructional video like this. I use boxes too, and grocery paper bags, and I have plastic bowls from the dollar store, which are very easy to cut into. :) No need to spent a fortune on anything in the pet store.

The cardboard canisters that Quaker Oats come in work great for free tunnels if you cut off the bottom, too. We used to do that, and we did the cardboard box trick too. My sister and I used to have fun getting creative with how we cut the holes in the boxes.

I made the hidey house with Amazon boxes when our two fluffies were 3-4 weeks old. Later when they grew bigger, they just knock the box house off lol or they could totally lift it. Then I found out Costco has a lot of very thick heavy and already have "doors" boxes (and some of them even have "two bedrooms" in the box), they are very nice free hidey too.
Not the boxes come with the stuff you buy. The ones they were going to recycle that used to hold smaller boxes.
I have 2 pairs of males in separate c and c cages. The cages are big enough that I can put several cardboard hide outs with multiple entrances and I also cover the cage with bamboo fencing as a roof. I feel that if they feel protected from above and have enough space, it will lessen their stress.
I knew Amazon made the best cat beds but now I know that guinea pigs love them too. I wonder how many animal related uses for an Amazon box there are.

Two holes for going in and out is key, until you can establish that the piggies don't quarrel. They need a way to retreat if one is insisting that they have the hidey instead. Another cheap fun thing along these lines is the brown paper used to pack inside the boxes. crumple it up then spread it out again, so it has some texture, and lay it over top of things or clip it to the cage sides. They love scurrying around underneath it and chewing on it. I always have this paper in the pen and replace it regularly. Pigs that dont have to place to seek cover so they aren't visible from above are going to be very nervous and upset. Also, the more places they have to hide, the more distributed their waste is. If you have only one place to hide, some pigs will soil that area fast. I put cafeteria trays with towels and fleece on top of the towels, and change it every day. Keeps the pen clean longer.

I make my hideys with plastic bins from Walmart, I just cut out an opening and sand the rough edges. I also have a 1x2 fleece forest :-)
What did you cut the plastic bins with? I tried that and the plastic kept shattering and splitting. In the end I had to throw it out.
You should try to use fleece in the bottom of it to make them even cozyer
OMG Ijust remember i have a huge box full of the thick vinyl cardboard rolls i bought from a lady. Their cardboard not vinyl lol theyll be perfect for my piggies as tunnels tysm ive ben hoping to find use for them.
Finally I been to thousands of pet shops and no one has a hide out they either have waaay to small or waaayy to big I just need in between

Thank you! This helped a lot! I made this and put in in my Piggies’s cage and they loved it! One question though. One of my piggies started nibbling on the cardboard. Is that bad for him? Or is it fine? I am not sure so if someone that knows a lot about Guinea Pigs could help me, that would be great! 💗
It is safe for the piggies to nibble on cardboard box. Just make sure to remove all the plastic tape from the box that could be dangerous
your actually the reason i made mine a hidey out of a amazon box already i do get a kick out of lucy going in and poking her head out of the little window i made

Ahhh..my piggies demolish any cardboard box with 3 or 4 days..2 girls are chewers, the rest just manage to pee in all the wrong places...
Try putting a small fleece or a wee wee pad in it so they don’t soil the cardboard :)
I have had so many of those and threw them away dang it why didn't I think of that 🤔.

Mine can't use those she just tosses them around moves them with her nose till it's backwards and unusable....i built them a hefty wood one... got the weight and she can't move it

Hi, i dont know if you still need tips but please, please get more than one piggy. They are very social and need another one for cuddles and socialisation, no matter how much you bond with it or spend time with it. Also, if theyre skinny pigs, please use fleece bedding. Itll be easier on their skin.

Those logs are horrible for piggies I wouldn't use them at all
but please tell me why? It helps keep the hay of the ground, they stretch their backs reaching for the hay, they never chew on it and they love to run through it. We use them in all cages at the L.A. Guinea Pig Rescue. I'd love to hear why you don't like them.
