    I recently failed my cdl test because i wasn't able to perform a good offset parking, i don't manage to understand how the trailer behaves while backing and i don't seem to understand what my instructor is telling me, these videos are a brtter approach of what i need to understand, hopefully i get it, i have a new drive test this comming 26th, wish me luck. Thanks for the videos, i will watch them over and over until they make full sense to me.

      Develop an awareness of where your trailer is pointing at all times, and where your trailer tires are on the ground..where it is pointing is where the tires are currently going. We point the trailer by moving the front of it. The back of the trailer moves only as a result of the front of the trailer moving. I try to show that with different camera angles. The only connection your tractor has with the trailer is at the kingpin. While traveling in reverse with your hand at the top of the steering wheel, the front of the trailer moves in the direction you move your hand. Good Luck with everything!

    I've been driving 22 years now in Australia and that sort of yard is the reason the new guys give up. Here they'd expect you to get a B-Double in there which is okay, but how hard is it to keep your yard safe for the truckers? Reversing into a dark dock is not easy.

    Seems like many of the problematic portions of things like this could be mitigated very simply and very cheaply by the property owners.
    There are two docks inside the building, which are damn near invisible when you're 75' in front of it, backing in, and it's obscured by the shadows.
    Invest $100 in an LED strip along the guide rails. This gives a quite literal glowing line to follow no matter the light conditions. Can even get creative and make one dock red and one dock blue or something. "Pull into the red dock".

    Great instructions for your day cab although many principles still apply to large sleeper tractors. Can you demonstrate with a sleeper tractor, like Volvo 760 and a 53 ft trailer?

    • @AdvancedTruckBacking
      @AdvancedTruckBacking  Год назад +1

      the physics are the same. You will just need a little more forward space with a sleeper. and the steering wheel may not turn as sharply as with the day cab. Which means the tractor will get back in front of the trailer a little slower.

    I am a 62 year old independent owner operator pulling a flatbed. The question for me is not whether I can do it or not. As soon as they explain to me that I need to go in there to either pick up or drop off, I will tell them to clear off the yard or I will just drive off. I don't mind facilities that are tight in space and no options but this places was designed and built perfectly. It is whoever runs this place that decided to give the drivers hard times. There is a reason why I am an independent owner operator - to spit in the face of these idiots. They will probably be standing around to make the poor driver more nervous. But up until you are your own boss, that is the unnecessary garbage you have to deal with. Good luck.

    Been driving at my first job for a couple months, it's mostly city and I love it, but most of my backing is in the dark or at my warehouse with a dark covered dock that faces north and has poor visibility. When I get back in the afternoon, the sun is shining on the tractor and into the mirrors, and I can't really see well. Impressive driving and instruction! However... why do some of these businesses keep a lot like a War Zone?? Also, why do some of these places have buildings and lots constructed that are unfavorable to drivers? I can understand that some locations might be old buildings and they just have to "make due". But they can't ALL be old buildings with crazy set-ups like that.

    • @AdvancedTruckBacking

    The view from the mirrors is nice but I feel like a bit is lost when we get shown both at once since obviously you can’t actually view both simultaneously. I think it could be informative to get an episode with a head mounted camera perspective just to give an idea of what it looks like staying on top of the different views

    • @moethedeaf2746
