Kororareka te kainga - Kororareka is the home
Tapeka te maunga nui - Tapeka the mountain
Parangia te pouhaki o ingarangi - he chopped down the pole of England
Kia hinga te mana o te pakeha - and shall the tribe/soul of English man die

      Here is Hone Heke.
Who's that guy? Jesting and teasing (the Crown)
He's a Ngapuhi (iwi/tribal nation) Chief, Here is (the story of) Hone Heke.
This warrior of his people showed contempt for the government of the white skins (British).
Kororareka (Russell) was his home, Tapeka his sacred Mountain.
Be strong our dear friend and ancestor (elder) Hone Heke.
He climbed Tapeka mountain and chopped down the flagpole of the English to belittle their claim to power (in NZ).
      Be vigilant Hone Heke!
A Chief from Ngapuhi, a warrior, (who embodied) the power of the Maori people.
Be forever vigilant (ever present) Hone Heke!
