The first time I heard this song was at this game live TV and it gave me goosebumps and tears these people all so proud of there culture it was beautiful, I'm Australian but my Moko's are Maori/Tongan and I was moved emotionally so proud of all you performing and even seeing the crowd proud just beautiful. Now my favourite song and still gives me goosebumps.
I’m so glad they performed and are still being asked to perform, and hearing Nanny Hui’s lead vocal fill the stadium is wonderful. The group looked smaller this time, with less of the original founding members. It’s sad how times change. There’s video from just 11-12 years ago when the group looked so much bigger and so many more familiar faces were performing. I hope the younger generation can continue Patea Maori Club’s legacy and learn these performances properly and perform them with heart and with enthusiasm… as this performance looked a bit soulless to me. Smiling faces, but not much passion.
I understand and thought the same as you. I felt sad that most of the original people are no longer. I think it's important that the generation who have gone before had clean, lovely smiles on their faces with an embracing attitude towards 'difference'. They conducted themeselves with integrity and I hope the new generation embrace that genuiness with no need to show aggressive facial experessions because if one studies what has gone before there is no need for such a stance. I don't mean any offence but I guess there will always be peopole who'll find something to critize me about.
One of the coolest things, seeing the crowd with the poi with the waiata like that ❤
Is it normal for people to bring poi to events in NZ? It looked so awesome and epic when everyone in the stalls was spinning poi in the video.
