I started playing Kirkland balls this year at my wife’s suggestion. She noted that I had taken seven years off golf and at 61 I’m not as good as I once was. After working on my game all summer my goal was to shoot a low 80’s round by end of season. Last Sunday I scuffed my brand new Kirkland on the second hole when I hit a tree … I feel like the cover is not quite as durable as the pro vx that I use to play. Well I kept the ball in play with the scuff and finished 18 holes with it and shot an 82. I’m good with Kirkland balls.

If you feel the the Kirkland ball we do what you what it to do, and don't think the proV will then play the ball you confidence in. When you dont think the ball you're playing will do what you want it to then its time to find a new golf ball. Confidence is really important when you play this crazy game that we've all chosen to play.

I play a Kirkland and absolutely love it. I was playing a TP5x and I thought the Kirkland was a little softer and maybe spun a little more. That added spin meant my driver sometimes was a little shorter. On the flip side because i was less bothered about losing a $5 ball I think I took on more shots and got better results because of confidence. On a similar note I wasn’t that bothered if I put one in the woods. If you a a good ball striker (which I am not) then maybe Kirkland isn’t the BEST ball in the world but it performs well and at that price it’s hard to beat.

    • @jvke.p

Try the tp5 or tour response! They’re both softer than the tp5x. I find the tp5x is a bit more “clicky” and the tp5 is more of a “thump”. Of course there are technical compression ratings that explain the difference but I find my personal terminology much more practical lol.

Very interesting stuff a track man comparison would be cool to see. I’ve always been partial to the prov1x tp5x and the tour BX which have really soft covers so if you say it’s comparable I need to check them out would have been nice when I was younger to have and losing balls but when I got down to single digits i had no worries of losing them and like you said can be played multiple rounds. I do have experience with both brands gloves and titleist have been one of the mainstays in my bag but if your making swing changes and practicing heavily or it’s very humid in the summer like where I live and you need multiple $20 a pop gets annoying and synthetics aren’t for me so one day I came across their 4 pack of gloves for less than $30 and had to try them out and I was/am very impressed that they can rival the name brands pricing by selling 3 for the price of one of those. out of all the thousands I’ve spent on gloves over the years the durability is the same or better than Other big brands and for a fraction of the cost they offer some of the best value in the industry. Would love to see a Kirkland wedge and putter review as well

Micah. The prov 1 is the best ball in golf. In my opinion the wedges are the difference due to spin being repetitive and reliable. On some courses the grasses and firmness dictate you have the spin and grab. One other note is chrome soft and ercs are noticably different off the putter and generally feel softer. They are good balls also. The trackman would be helpful to determine the facts. From time to time i will pull in a sub on a very challenging shot and find that the freedom of not caring what happens is a factor. if someone cares enough to manufacture a golf ball i would think the quality of the internals and cover material would be key. Never given kirkland a shot but nice video. Seems very truthful. Good work!

For you newer or just less experienced golfers, or anyone (which is like 95% of people) who dont have club head speed similar to Micahs, there's nothing wrong with a soft, or semi-soft ball. To take advantage of the main benefits of a hard ball like a ProV1, you need high club head speed to compress the hard ball. Ex. My brother swings about 40mph slower than me, but is accurate. Prov1 came in 5th out of the 5 balls he tested, with a semi soft bridgestone coming in first place.

Although there are some balls not up to par, most are in the category of being 'good enough' as we don't generate club head speed nor spin like the pros (my index is 6.1). There are too many variables influencing golf ball performance. That includes your swing, impact, angle of attack, type of club, etc...). I play with anything (except some really cheap balls like pinnacle, topflite...) and I certainly can't tell any difference. But certainly, don't feel bad when I lose a $1 ball into a lake versus throwing out a $3.50 ball.

With Micah’s swing speed the V1X matches up better. A little firmer compression on his 2 iron equates to longer distance for that swing speed. With the Kirkland it’s a bit softer and will spin more on full swings aka less distance. So for us normal people Kirkland is going to play similar to the proVs

Hey Micah, I'm over here in England and thought I'd try some Kirklands after a couple of our RUclipsrs, James Robinson & Chris Dennis sang their praises. While I think I've sacrificed a few yards on drives, compared to my usual Srixon Q-Star Tour balls, I have seen a little more spin from them into and around greens. They do scuff pretty easily but I guess that's the price you pay for the soft cover which helps produce that spin. I can pick up the Kirklands for around half the price of the Q-Stars, so I'll definitely be keeping a few in my bag from now on, where they'll share space with my trusty Srixons. Keep up the good good work 👍

I see that Cobalt rangefinder. I have the Q-6 also, loving it.
You should short-side yourself on a green, especially onto a downslope green, and see if you can get confidence chipping/flopping the Kirkland. That is the most noticeable spot for me. I play a TM Tour Response, which i think is comparable to the Kirkland. I accept the short game challenge since overall I am getting the lower flight/spin I want on drivers/irons which I hit more often than shortsided chips. On the positive gain side, chipping uphill is nice with the Tour Response / Kirkland as they are easier to get to run out. And most amateurs are short on their chips anyways.

So I am about 3 years into golf and a higher handicap at about 13 but a longer hitter. 300+ with driver and around 275 with 3 wood (my go to off the tee). My issue is iron shots consistency and an issue controlling spin. I’ve been playing Kirkland for about 2 years and have tried all the premium balls. I’ve found the Kirkland really fits me well when it comes to keeping it consistent. Even when I’m playing the same ball for several holes or a whole round or so the Kirkland just seems to hang with the Pro V or TP5. I can for sure tell there’s a little loss in distance in comparison to the premium balls but not much. Plus I love it around the greens. Maybe it’s just confidence with the Ksig (and maybe the price since I lose more than low handicappers lol) but I prefer it to the premium balls. Love the soft feel and when I get on a streak I find myself using the same Kirkland ball for quite some time. Def recommend for newer golfers who like that premium feel.
