The best version is the Bob Dylan's one! ;)
The Guns N' Roses version is also very beautiful.
    This version too it's good.

I agree with you Larry! I have a son who is disabled and don't like use of the "R" word. People who use it don't seem to realize it hurts people, disabled people and their friends and families who love them!

@larryoh1 Very true. When I was a young teenager singing and playing the guitar to the music of dylan, bad company, deep purple, scorpions, bread, steve miller, including oldies like temptations, bee gees, beatles, troggs, kinks..all kind of everything, my older sis who was intellectually disabled - couldn't bathe, dress or feed herself, knew which was good music and would rock in her chair and transport herself to another world. Her particular favourite - Bad Company's 'Seagull'

i clicked this video only coz i saw pink floyd written there.
it amused me as i read the comments.
its ironical how people mentioned all sorts of commercial fuckers and nothing close to "porcupine tree" was mentioned, which according to me is the PF of this era.
but maybe thats where the spirit of rock lies - in a video of porcupine tree which has not more than 5% of the views of this video.

It's Roger Waters off his solo album Flickering Flame. And the Hebrew is saying L'Chaim, L'Chaim which means "To Life! To Life!". Then it says Selichot, Selichot, which means Repent, this is said during the week before Rosh haShannah the Jewish New Year. The Rabbi or his helper used to go door to door knocking to get people to the synagogue for Selichot. "Knocking on Heaven's Door" kind of fits this then, eh? A change from the meaning Dylan gave it, but it fits for this too.

At first they-re saying "Lechaim!"- it means "to life!"- it's a phrase you say before you drink a toast. At 0:13 somebody's saying "where are you going?" . At 0:33 somebody is shouting "Slichot" (special prayers recited in the weeks preceding Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement) . At 1:51 he says "it was my mom's, my father gave it to her for their wedding". I really don't get the connection of the last sentence, but the first two are taking the song to a Jewish view, maybe.

    new poem
I want to spit on the sun
I want to stab your heart
    Until my arm gets numb
Admire you like a TV channel
    Delete you
Erase you to bring you back
To watch your tears coming back in colors again
Each feeling an actor of my subconscious
As they play their roles in each dream
    Devoured night after night
My digested limbs come back to you

then in the middle its calling people to repent; selichot ,the week of prayers before Jewish new year.

  • @94ForReal

@DungeonSF Pink Floyd weren't about going with reality though, they were about escaping it, in a similar way, religion is about seeing beyond reality and having faith beyond what mortality restricts us to experiencing. And there's no evil in people wanting to lead good lives to ascend beyond what your short sightedness cannot see.

Guys, this is Roger Waters, even though this definetely isn't the version he recorded: this cover is the opening track of his compilation "Flickerin' Flame Vol. 1". Technically, it's not Pink Floyd, but I agree with insaneage when he says that Roger is as much Pink Floyd as the rest of the bend. Anyway, Roger definetely is the most productive Floyd, but it's not correct to post this video as a Pink Floyd track, it's not even the original Waters' version!!!
