  • Hemsworth, as seen through the eyes of some of its young residents...
This another example of collaborative filmmaking! I made this short social documentary with a group of young people from Hemsworth; a small, former pit town in Yorkshire. As part of the project those young people involved developed their basic ICT skills and earned an ASDAN award for their efforts.
The film also gave them the opportunity to discuss their feelings about the Town, which was about to begin a substantial regeneration programme.
The film takes place in an area known as the West End, which has subsequently been torn down...

I was born in 58 Town Street , now gone , Hemsworth was always a "tasty" place to live , but the people had pride in who they were and what they did , it never recovered from the pit closures ,and probably never will .Despite all the negative thoughts against this village , i am still VERY PROUD to have been born here ,West End Born and Bred

I notice none of the interviewees talk about creating places for them to work in the future. I remember going to school at West End Middle, the area wasn't bad at all then (in the 80s). Not good either, but not that bad.
