I've had a few people mention to me they think it's Variac Fuzz + Not Rite in the footage I showed. I was on the fence with this as well when I was analyzing the footage. I asked a few of my JF gear colleagues and our collective thoughts are that he is stepping just on the side of the SD-1, not directly on it which is why it looks closer to the Variac Fuzz. I might be wrong though so let me know what you guys think and maybe I'll have to make an update video later!
I really think its not on the SD1-. If you slow the video when he step in for the drive the sd1 is completely out of sight. If it was the SD1 at least it should appear the layout of the yellow pedal. But thats only a guess but almost certain hahah
I liked the second solo tone better. I think it’s awesome he’s trying different pedals and shows that you can get that John frusciante tone in many ways. Great work as always dude!
idk it’s weird he can still hit high notes during those single note harmonies like in Universally Speaking but maybe he struggles with harmonising vocals like in Wet Sand
John can definitely still hit those notes. Even if you listen to performances in 1998 john was laid back on his vocals but also didnt push really high unless he HAD to and he didn't really shine in a live setting until 2002-07. I thought the same thing as to why he's not hitting the yell at the end of wet sand but in the smells like teen spirit video, he definitely has the yell in him. Give him another year or two of being back and I'm sure he'll be hitting higher notes and enjoying himself on stage more
unclear what pedals you said he used.. just sd-1 and fuzzrite? or sd-1, ds2, fuzzrite? assuming it's the latter. the wilson fuzzrite is pretty cool and i like it a little more than variac, but variac is cool to have. i still haven't tried the 3 pedal thing in the order he uses with sd-1 before ds-2
Upon checking out JF’s backing vocals isolated it’s him. Maybe a bit of Anthony mixed in on the record. I was always going back and forth with who I thought actually did it 🤷🏻♂️ ruclips.net/video/7NhMgKt0yUQ/видео.html
John used Big Muff not that much.. In that Fuji Rock Wet Sand solo he used ds2 and mosrite. His Muff has very specyfic settings and sound. You can clearly hear Big Muff on Scar Tissue solo in Bilbao 2006.

it's john's scream in the outro

It’s John’s scream !! Strange that Anthony did it ...
That song always gets me.
do you guys think john can’t reach those high vocals anymore or he just figured out a new harmony?
idk it’s weird he can still hit high notes during those single note harmonies like in Universally Speaking but maybe he struggles with harmonising vocals like in Wet Sand
might be why he is covering Your Song instead of Maybe or How Deep Is Your Love, because it’s not as challenging to hit those notes
also in she’s a lover some vocals are pretty high and he did them so that’s also another thing proving that we don’t know xd

@@marcjuarez90 might be true actually i’m looking forward to that

Pretty sure he aint stepping on sd1 but the one before it. Sd1 pedal is not moving and his foot goes infront the pedal, not over.
I thought that was John screaming on the album before the solo though, right?? 🤓 literally doesn’t matter, just curious xox
… and I agree that I think he used the big muff on the album 🤓🔥❤️
I always thought it was anthony on the album and JF live (until this tour). Not sure though

98% it's john on the record
John on the record
I think the reason he changed the pedals was probably due to the loud screech when he bends very far in the solo
Great stuff

But why isn't John wearing purple socks?
Is John still using his wah post drive section?
@kristjanhinno Not true. Until his second departure in 2008 he always had the wah after the DS-2. He seems to have switched that, though.
if he had the wah closer to the guitar than ds2 he wouldn't have gotten the super wah sound(ds2&wh10 combined)
@kristjanhinno and where do you think i got the "super wah" term haha
First. And I love the big muff pedal. And wet sand is my favorite song
Dave should know what he using for the solo
