    In this video we take a look at pairing the Fireface UCX II - RME's brand new Advanced USB Audio Interface - with the TotalMix for iPad app.
    The Fireface UCX II is RME's most powerful and portable interface. Featuring full standalone operation, class compliant mode and DURec (Direct-to-USB) recording, the UCX II is a fantastic option for recording live shows, rehearsals and also for creating field recordings.
    Class Compliant mode makes it possible to pair the UCX II with an Apple iPad, creating an incredibly portable recording solution. Whilst there are a variety of DAWs available for the iPad, in this video we've chosen to look at harnessing the power of RME's TotalMix app, for direct recording straight to a USB storage (connected to the UCX II's DURec connection).

    Great stuff :-) All we need now is some clever bod to come up with a multitrack playback solution . Locator points for stems and a way to locate them with midi notes plus the normal playback controls.

    Fyi - On my new iPad pro the connection is a usb c (not lightening) connector so I can use the cable that came with the UCXII without an adapter just as I do when connecting to the macbook pro (yay)

      Somehow we forgot to mention this! It's really handy that you can use the new iPad without an adapter!

      @@SynthaxAudioUK For sure . . . I have soooo many adapters. Have watched this video several times, and just used (as a test) the DURec feature . . . which is "exactly" what I needed (without really knowing it). Am loving this new interface so far.

      Great, waiting my UCXii to arrive this week. Downloaded the app. Can’t wait to test it with my iPad Pro

      @nancywoo1762 I tried to use a small USB doc to convert USB to USB - C for my new iPad with USB-C but it did not work. I have the older UCX Fireface, not this new model. Would that work?

    Is putting the UFX Plus in CC mode as easy as this?

    • @SynthaxAudioUK
      @SynthaxAudioUK  9 месяцев назад

      The process is basically identical, with only one extra step/menu page. This is from the manual:
      The Class Compliant mode can be activated and deactivated directly at the unit, as long as it is not connected to a Mac or PC: SETUP/REV, Options, Hardware/Diagnosis, Interface Mode, CC
      Hope this helps!

    Can you control it with a 2nd iPad on the same wifi network using TotalMix Remote? Also, can you control it with a midi controller while in iOS mode?

      Hi there, haven't tested this with either the newer iPads or the older UCX, but potentially a USB-B to USB-C type cable might work

    Thanks for the video! So to confirm, this can be powered via the USB-C from an iPad Pro? I'm upgrading from another interface that has this handy option and would miss the feature.

      Hi, I think the answer is no unfortunately - only the RME Babyface Pro FS can be bus-powered via USB. As I understand it, the UCX II's power requirements are too high for the iPad's USB-C output (higher channel count, more DSP etc requires more power in comparison with the Babyface).
      That being said, I believe you can safely power the UCX II with a 12v battery or power bank. Matthias Carstens (head of development at RME), has created a forum post about his findings with various options;
      forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=25745
      Looks like the XT power bank is a popular option!

    2:13 Unfortunately not true. iOS 11 is the lowest working iOS for the actual TotalMix fx vers. 1.84. Ipad 2 with iOS 9 won't be compatible. iPad 6th generation would. TotalMix fx remote works on iOS 9 tho.

      There's a variety of portable battery packs available that would power the UCX II. Might be worth checking out this post on the RME Forum with some suggestions from the co-founder: forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=25745
