I'd love to see a comparison between this Evo 4 and the iRig Pro I/O Duo (or the single input). In fact, I'd love a comparison with any interfaces claiming to support iOS devices. The Evo 4 looks like an amazing option. Lots of people don't own computers or want to be able to play/record with a mobile phone on the go or at gigs. Nobody that I've seen has ever made a video telling people which devices are truly iOS compliant beyond the iRig models -- and I've said surely there must be other interfaced that don't require a PC (though supporting both PC/Mac computers and iOS/Android mobile devices is a huge plus in case someone ever gets a new type of device). Can you try to find as many iOS interfaces as possible, compare them all with sound samples and features, and help people decide which is best for their needs? Nice review. I have the EVO 8 and use it with my 2018 iPad Pro. It works very well with one mic and doesn’t drain the iPad battery very much at all. I have even recorded drums using 3 mics and even tho you can see the battery drain a little more, if u start at full, you can still get through a couple hours. The smart gain works as advertised and overall the unit is excellent. The Evo 8 is probably the best combination of performance and value for a 4 in 4 out interface. The only problem with the 8 is that it doesn’t come with the Cubasis Le software bundle.

If i exit the project and go back again select the track i want to continue with i dont get the sound selected. if adding a new track again then it works.
I am considering this interface to record drum tracks with my iPhone via the garage band app that I can send to someone to play guitar and bass with. Any feedback before I purchase?
Thank you for this video. I recently got the donner interface and I’ve noticed some annoying latency when recording electric guitar in GarageBand. I’m using the m1 iPad Pro so it shouldn’t give this latency. Any suggestions on how to correct this? Thank you so much.
Buy better interface :) Frankly, I gave up. Latency in GB during guitar recording was annoying even with my RME Babyface Pro FS. Reason is the buffer there is fixed to 256 samples and you can't go lower even with super duper interface.
Hi, I’m from Australia. I’m finding it hard to get specs on interfaces that suit IOS. I was looking at Komplete but the salesperson thinks they aren’t for iOS. Cheers 😊
I use my m-audio m-track solo with my ipad and it works amazingly!.. half the cost of this and other mentioed interfaces in the comment section. Id never limit my options just to have a slightly smaller unit. Still have to have a laptop or ipad so the size of the interface isnt really relevant.
it is depending on your physical setup dimensions. some folks with a tiny space may need products for their ipad with very small footprints to save space.
@Zyswest ok well update!.. that m audio stopped working out of no where so sense the suport really sucks ballz i went with a focusrite scarlett solo.. way nicer unit and decided to run protools.. all good now!
I wonder if there any way to such behavior. I wanna use 2 software programs in Ipad - for example, cubase for adding some effects to guitar, and loopy pro for making loops. Can I create kinda channel between these 2 programs?
@@Willam_J Shure, but if i put in a powered hub then i could use any audio-interface i want (or i got) and don't need this for an ios device. @@Willam_J Thanks for that information, is there any way to connect the TC Helicon audio interface with the Motu M4 that I have and be able to record sounds from my Ipad in the Daw?
Thanks for the great videos! Just saw your new video on the irig HD x and am unsure which one to pick between these two. I am mainly going to use it to play guitar through headphones while using apps like tonex, bias fox, nembrini, etc. on an iPad Pro. Which one would you recommend and why? I’m currently using the Apogee Jam but it does not have a headphone output and for some reason I am unable to get audio out of headphones. I’m using a generic usb-c hub and I am plugging in the Apogee Jam and a headphone amp and the iPad for some reason does not send the audio out to the dac. So these two seems like would work as they both have headphone outputs! Thanks again for your great videos!
This is the better option in my opinion. Yes, it's not as portable as the iRig HD X but you're getting more features, better sound quality and the option to add microphones to your set up further down the line. You could also just grab a USB-C to USB-C cable and attach the Evo 4 directly to your iPad and remove the need for a hub.
Friend, I have doubts about this Interface, I saw comments that there are interference noises, such as Bluetooth and cell phone signal, is this true? Another thing, for use only with electric guitar and bass, would the Irig HD 2 be a good option? compared to the Evo 4???
I haven’t encountered any issues like that myself, even with it sitting right next to my phone. Yeah, the iRig HD 2 will work fine if you only plan to record guitar or bass. The Evo 4 (or other ‘proper’ interface would give you more options down the line if you decide to record via a microphone.
@@TheGaragebandGuide Thanks for the answer. In terms of sound quality and fidelity, will the Evo 4, Focusrite Solo or another interface be much superior to the Hd 2 or will they sound the same?
What would you recommend? I need both audio and midi to Funktion when I later this month is going to test Logic for iPad , my Apogee desktop never received the promised usb midi implementation, it sounds fabulous but it’s sad to have to connect usb hubs , but I will do it if necessary , i wonder if audio interfaces work thru usb hub ? Can you recommend an usb c hub for iPad Pro third generation . Thanks for a very good channel 😊
Hi Patrick, was wondering if you had any issues with monitoring with this device. I just got mine hooked up, trying to record some bass into GB iOS. Powered with usb hub, into iPad with Apple usb 3 adapter used the smart gain feature. Headphones in the EVO 4, to use the mix option to hear myself w no latency, Really bad headphone noise, high pitched whirring, moved everything to a clean isolated AC outlet, verified ground was proper, thought it might be dirty power but made no difference. Checked all cables and connections. Am I missing something in the monitoring process? Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
Great review, Patrick. This combo seems great to me. Well, I’m looking for an audio interface to use with a Mac (running OSX Mojave or Catalina at most) for live guitar. These balanced outputs can be used to connect with a PA system, right?
Thanks for the very useful review. After purchasing Evo 4 I learned: only Evo 4 is compatible with iOS according to the Audient website (not the Evo 8). The loopback feature is only relevant for MacOS/Windows as there is no software on iOS to enable this, disappointing for me as I need to make screencast videos of my iOS app from an iPad. Would have been great to do it on an iPad only. Not quite sure why no vendors provide configuration software on iOS after all these years, seems like it should be a must for calling something iOS compatible. Otherwise, it's a great device for iPad based live performance or production, great sound, lightweight, bus powered, hits all the main points except for the lack of software support on iOS.
I agree, I’ve reached out to Audient and asked for an iOS app but nope they aren’t going to make one, what a big let down. All I want to do is send a metronome to headphones and not out of the main output
@@ScottLSimon It wasn’t working with loopy pro or aum, I did contact audient and they replied that they aren’t making an ios version of their app any time soon so it’s not possible
@@theinfinate ok...yeah. That is not supported in basic interfaces. The Scarlett Solo doesn't allow routing to the headphones independent of the main outs either.
if you're looking for something ultra portable, check out the ESI UMG192. i hear very little about it.. but I own it and its really good. smaller than a pack of cigarettes, two inputs, one of them hi-Z, phantom power, USB-C, metal housing, and a small price tag. cheers!
Sorry to bother the community… But will this work for my new iPad Air fifth generation 2022 straight out the box? Because prior to this I was using my rig HD 2 With my iPhone 12 promax.
Hello I want to use my ipad for live perforfmance and sin g along with it - I am told that the only way of doing htis is to use an audio interface - is this correct?
Pretty cool! Thanks. Patrick when I record with the Scarlett 2i2 it records one track mono. I have a Helix Line 6. When I use the Helix, it records one track in stereo. Is there away to use an audio interface and have it record one track in stereo? Thank you. Nice vocals by the way.
The interface looks really good. Or rather, it sounds good and packs a lot of features into a small package. That plastic body looks like it weighs next to nothing though, and would come to bits pretty quickly if it got a solid knock. If you look after it, that shouldn't be a problem. The light weight can be a double edged sword; great for portability, bad for getting dragged off a table by a heavy headphone or XLR cable. As for the starter pack, I don't think the included mic and headphones are any good at all. The mic sounds like a cheap dynamic mic, not a condenser, with very little detail in the sound and no high end. The difference in sound quality between the mic and the electric guitar going straight into the interface was stark, though you did manage to even things up in post. The headphones sound like they would only make that worse, with no clarity. They sounded like phone speakers when compared to the ATH-30x and especially the Sony pair, which was a step up again from the ATs. I guess if you're just trying to get started on a budget, the pack will let you get into it, learn, and practice, but I'd be looking to replace both the mic and headphones as soon as I could afford it. The interface itself sounds great though.
Please help. Is it possible to listen to an interface and the iPad internal audio mixed together within the iPad? I want to jam along with RUclips/spotify using my guitar plugged in through an interface (not yet purchased. Thanks in advance
I'm planning to buy a pair of Adam Audio T5V studio monitors and want a good interface. Do you think Evo 4 will work good with T5Vs? I'm not planning to connect an external instruments or even mic just want a good quality interface for the speakers.
I just got a pair of Adam Audio T5Vs last month Dominik! They are excellent and work well with every audio interface I’ve tried them with (including the EVO 4.) One thing to note is that as excellent as the sound quality is (and it IS excellent) the T5Vs do have a fairly noticeable hiss to them if you are sat quite close to them. Took a bit of getting used to for me (The M-Audio BX5s I had before had no hiss at all).
@@TheGaragebandGuide Thanks for the quick reply! Hiss sounds a bit annoying :( Have you tried them with Scarlett Solo? I can't decided between them two.
@@DominikZalewski85 yes, tried with the solo too, work’s absolutely fine. There’s so little difference between audio interfaces around the $100 mark that you can’t really go wrong. The hissing IS noticeable at first, I found that setting the volume of the speakers themselves to around 50% and cranking the attached audio interface’s volume a bit works well. You can’t hear the hiss while music is playing is that helps.
Perfect ? - I am strugglin to get an interface that will run easily with ipad connected without dongles. I am trying to use Loopy Pro and am struggling to get most operating easily . Will this oen wrk with 10th generation ipad- dont have pro . Some interfaces only work bus powered with pro models. I lokked at Arturia but the minifuse 4 cannto be bus powered. and htey dont include the (needed) power supply I am on the verge of giving up on the notion of using loopy pro live other than as file playback using bluetooth and play along with it - seems a waste of opportunity
But how can I use the video record function of my iPad while using GarageBand? Whenever I minimise GarageBand to open my camera record function it shuts off GarageBand completely?
Can I monitor recorded tracks to while recording singing vocals without the music tracks coming through the unit and recording onto my mic track? I was having this issue with a small sound board. It would let me monitor my music as I recorded vocals but whatever music was coming from the iPad into the sound board was being pumped into my mic line also somehow. Like anything coming into the board was being recorded as an out signal as well on my mic line.
@@TheGaragebandGuide i actually tried it and it all works, the only things is you cant open the Evo Mixer since it requires the driver, but the interface as a standalone 8 channel input works well. I directly do the input monitoring on Logic and just adjust my IEM volume there. But yup it works. I just needed to reset the Evo 16 to factory setting so that the main output also goes to Heaphone 1&2.

If i exit the project and go back again select the track i want to continue with i dont get the sound selected. if adding a new track again then it works.
Tc Helion Go Twin seems to have more features, e.g, MIDI.
Would you recommend this over the focusrite solo? I’m going to be using only with my iPad and iPhone for guitar. Thanks!
I use a usb c Antelope Zen Go that’s the best interface for a Ipad
Can you use it to record audio for your videos?
I am considering this interface to record drum tracks with my iPhone via the garage band app that I can send to someone to play guitar and bass with. Any feedback before I purchase?
love your video, dude!
Cheers! I appreciate you watching!
I looking for a audio interface to use as a sound card for my iPad Pro, and recommendations
I’d still recommend the one in this video. It’s portable, has great features and is surprisingly affordable.
Hey Patrick! Do you know if the loopback function also works on iOS? Is that available clicking the mixer button on the interface?
Cheers 😊
Could this work running in the background, to do live streams for example?
Super useful, thanks so much!
Thanks for watching!
No usb mic input? I've been long awaiting such a thing 🤷🏻♂️
I wonder if there any way to such behavior. I wanna use 2 software programs in Ipad - for example, cubase for adding some effects to guitar, and loopy pro for making loops. Can I create kinda channel between these 2 programs?
Good review bud...Im on the look out for something to use with my iPhone 12 for guitar recording with some backing...this this ok for that ?
Would be nice if it also had midi ports
TC Helion Go Twin has it all.
it doesn’t have midi??? be gone with it
@@Willam_J Shure, but if i put in a powered hub then i could use any audio-interface i want (or i got) and don't need this for an ios device. The point of this device is that you can use it without dongles (good for mobility). And this plus gets lost if i have to connect a dongle and then another interface (for midi) etc.
@@Willam_J Thanks for that information, is there any way to connect the TC Helicon audio interface with the Motu M4 that I have and be able to record sounds from my Ipad in the Daw?
@@Willam_JStill, the direct usb C to usb C advantage, not needing any hub will be lost.
On the "smart mute" feature: can you /unmute/ the monitors with the headphones still connected?
Is there any way to use this and have the iPad be powered at the same time?
Not directly - you’d need to attach a powered USB hub as a ‘middle man’ between the two.
Isn’t Cubasis LE free anyways? Or does it somehow come with the software so you don’t need an internet connection or the App Store to download it?
Great review, Patrick. This combo seems great to me. Well, I’m looking for an audio interface to use with a Mac (running OSX Mojave or Catalina at most) for live guitar. These balanced outputs can be used to connect with a PA system, right?
Helluva swiss army knife! Good review!
@@theinfinate Is there no way to do that with the Cubase version that is bundled with it?
@@ScottLSimon It wasn’t working with loopy pro or aum, I did contact audient and they replied that they aren’t making an ios version of their app any time soon so it’s not possible
@@theinfinate ok...yeah. That is not supported in basic interfaces. The Scarlett Solo doesn't allow routing to the headphones independent of the main outs either.
the evo headset is crazy. wow
if you're looking for something ultra portable, check out the ESI UMG192. i hear very little about it.. but I own it and its really good. smaller than a pack of cigarettes, two inputs, one of them hi-Z, phantom power, USB-C, metal housing, and a small price tag.
cheers!
Kinda pricey for the limits..
Sorry to bother the community… But will this work for my new iPad Air fifth generation 2022 straight out the box? Because prior to this I was using my rig HD 2 With my iPhone 12 promax.
Yep, though you will need an adapter for the cable, or a separate USBC to USBC cable.
@@TheGaragebandGuide Thank You 🙏🏻
What about for live performance? I really want to use my iPad like a pedalboard with with like AUM and fx, or TH-U. Does this interface work for live?
I bought the M Audio Air 192 4, and i cant make it work with my IPad 9th gen.😔
because it is not compatible you have to read the specifications, you have the new Volt that are compatible
Hello I want to use my ipad for live perforfmance and sin g along with it - I am told that the only way of doing htis is to use an audio interface - is this correct?
Patrick, you're always do an awesum job! 🤗
I would need 4 outputs (or even 6) becauase I do a lot of DJing and need 2 channels to monitor + 2 main outputs to be able to use my iPad Pro.
It still doesn’t have an app for iOs does it??
Pretty cool! Thanks. Patrick when I record with the Scarlett 2i2 it records one track mono. I have a Helix Line 6. When I use the Helix, it records one track in stereo. Is there away to use an audio interface and have it record one track in stereo? Thank you. Nice vocals by the way.
Newbie here. Can you use tonestack pro and this evo 4 interface together? (on ios ipad)
Yeah absolutely
Any idea if this works with the iphone 15 pro max directly? As in just usb c from the iphone to the evo 4 and nothing more? Thanks!
I don’t have an iPhone 15 so can’t test, but I don’t see why not?
@@TheGaragebandGuidegotcha! Thank you for the quick response!
Does this work for DJing? And can you use it with djay Pro?
Please help. Is it possible to listen to an interface and the iPad internal audio mixed together within the iPad? I want to jam along with RUclips/spotify using my guitar plugged in through an interface (not yet purchased.
Thanks in advance
Very nice. Thank you 👍🏾
Is this compatible with iOS 16? My tascam ixr is no longer picked up by my iPad Pro
They are excellent and work well with every audio interface I’ve tried them with (including the EVO 4.)
One thing to note is that as excellent as the sound quality is (and it IS excellent) the T5Vs do have a fairly noticeable hiss to them if you are sat quite close to them.
@@TheGaragebandGuide Many thanks for the advise!
Would this work with a MacBook Pro please ?
Absolutely
Is the usb-c port audio only or can you send midi through it?
Looks a solid bit of kit!
Perfect ? - I am strugglin to get an interface that will run easily with ipad connected without dongles. I am trying to use Loopy Pro and am struggling to get most operating easily . Will this oen wrk with 10th generation ipad- dont have pro . Some interfaces only work bus powered with pro models. I lokked at Arturia but the minifuse 4 cannto be bus powered. and htey dont include the (needed) power supply I am on the verge of giving up on the notion of using loopy pro live other than as file playback using bluetooth and play along with it - seems a waste of opportunity
whats the best daw for exporting audio tracks on iPads
Hi! How do you smart gain on the dedicated guitar input?
But how can I use the video record function of my iPad while using GarageBand? Whenever I minimise GarageBand to open my camera record function it shuts off GarageBand completely?
Can the newly released type-c input ipad be attached to this device (Evo 4)?
Yes, absolutely.
I wish re had MIDI in/MIDI out then it would be perfect.
I have got this one as well, and I love it 🙏🏼👍🏻
Can I monitor recorded tracks to while recording singing vocals without the music tracks coming through the unit and recording onto my mic track? I was having this issue with a small sound board. It would let me monitor my music as I recorded vocals but whatever music was coming from the iPad into the sound board was being pumped into my mic line also somehow. Like anything coming into the board was being recorded as an out signal as well on my mic line.
It’s hardly the Ultimate Audio Interface for iPad as it has no MIDI I/O like on the MiniFuse 2, M-Audio Air and the Komplete Audio 6
The smart muting is actually something I don't like, sometimes I want to have both outputs and headphones at the same time :)
Now don’t you think it’s time you upgraded your iPhone? That iPhone 1 you have lying about may be a bit out-of-date! 😂🤣
Good catch. Lol! 😂
I use my Yamaha THR as an audio interface. It’s not bad, but there is an almost imperceptible latency. Any noticeable with this unit?
all usb interfaces have latency you need to use a serial soundcard for near zero latency (expensive and not ios compatible)
Can i use midi keyboard with this?
Will this apply to Audient Evo 16?
No, the Evo 16 isn’t supported on iOS as it requires a driver to run properly.
@TheGaragebandGuide yess nd this is sad, apple can do it for the iPad M1 but nope, haha they would loose the use for laptops😅😅
