      Just started my dwarf baby tears about a week ago a little nervous but things seem to be going ok. I have a co2 diffuser and volcanic substrate I have 6 white led lights along with 6 blue led lights in a ten gallon. I also am dosing the tank once a week with 5 ml of micro fertilizer

    Thank you, that really clarified the differences for me. It's hard to come across clarity with some online articles, especially on sites that sell the plants, since they don't want to undersell a product or make another product look like it isn't worth the maintenance. I honestly love the way that dwarf baby tears release their oxygen into little bubbles, but I will probably start out with the Monte Carlo now that I know the maintenance differences :)

  • @ZN88
    @ZN88 5 лет назад +1

    Q: By dry start method, you plant them in the soil until it starts spreading before adding water? but doesnt that causes the plant to molt once submerged in the water?

    • @RaccoonCreekAquatics
      @RaccoonCreekAquatics  5 лет назад +2

      Yes, the plant will likely go through a short melt phase as it transitions from it's emersed leaves to it's submersed leaves

    I am new at aquascaping and live plants. After reading a lot, I heard that monte carlo was easier for beginners, so I ordered that, since it doesn't require CO2 nor high lighting. Also what is dry planting?

  • @SkiaAoPNinja

    I just ordered some hemianthus callitrichoides (Dwarf Tears) online and I didn't realize how similar it was to Monte Carlo. I have medium lighting, pressurized co2 injection, and E.I. fertilization but didn't know the Tears were such a high maintenance/high demanding plant. Hopefully they do OK. My tank has very low demand plants right now (Amazon Swords, Hornwort, and a Fern) and I wanted to try a carpet. I guess I can always fall back on the Monte Carlo if the Tears don't make it.
    Do you know if Monte Carlo will also Pearl with the oxygen bubbles like the Dwarf Tears do?

    • @RaccoonCreekAquatics
      @RaccoonCreekAquatics  5 лет назад +1

      If your HC doesn't make it, Monte Carlo is a great alternative to get the appearance you're looking for. I've had monte Carlo Pearl in one of my tanks, but I don't get it to happen as often with monte Carlo as other plants. Let me know how it goes!

    • @SkiaAoPNinja
      @SkiaAoPNinja 5 лет назад

      Interesting. I wish I knew about Monte Carlo before I bought the Tears. They should have the proper nutrients but the tap water quality here is really hard so we'll see. The PH is closer to 9 coming from the tap, drops to about 8.1 after I de-chlorinate, but doesn't get to the 7ish range until the co2 comes on. The plants just seem to have a harder time with the water so that is probably the biggest question mark. I hope they make it though!
      Also, I love the plant coming out of your HOB filter. I have one of those same plants in my bedroom and I might cut a piece off to propagate it in the filter, that seems cool. Do you ever have trouble with the roots blocking the filter media or jamming the impeller of the pump?

    Dear Jake:
    I’d like to add monte carlo (Micranthemum) to my, planted, 10-gallon tank. I don’t plan to add CO2 any time soon. Do you recommend this, knowing what I have in this set-up?
    Please advise.
    Thank you for your, very informative video. Your tanks and especially the plants are looking super-terrific!
    All my best,
    Sincerely,
    E. J. Brinegar

      I believe Monte Carlo would be ok in your tank. It will grow very slow, though. I have it in my 5 gallon bonsai tank without Co2. It's capreting, but much slower than in my other tank. Just keep in mind that it will be difficult to plant into your substrate. With your fertilized substrate, and ferts, it should be fine

    • @ejbrinegar
      @ejbrinegar 6 лет назад

      Dear Jake:
      I see, sir. My, planted, 10-gallon tank is a long-term project. I don’t mind if it takes an inordinate amount of time to get it looking like a precious jewel in my bedroom. As long as the species are healthy and happy, I consider it a success. As you know, I have something special in mind for that set up. I’m going to have to be frugal, rather than spend-thrift with my hobby. But, eventually, I hope to get that tank looking super-terrific, as yours already are.
      All my best,
      Sincerely,
      Brinegar
