I feel your pain! I was laughing so hard because I know EXACTLY how you felt while the plants weren't staying in. Love your videos!
Can't echo this enough. They'll have you believe that the ADA tweezers is the answer lol
@@samuelorellana2603 plant them dry first…
I'm liking these freshwater vids midweek👍
What a cool store, I wish I lived anywhere close to a nice fish store!
You’re gonna have a nice tank on your hands. I like Monte Carlo myself, I’ve had good results with it with no co2
Thanks, Monte Carlo would definitely be my choice if I went with no CO2! Look at me, sounding like I know what I am talking about, lol.
i know this comment is old but could you get a nice carpet with the monte carlo and no co2?
I so enjoy watching you plant this tank. Your videos are fun to watch. I like you.
Hey, I feel energize watching this video. Great great video! I feeling more relax at ease and enjoying it alot thankyou👍
Kaquatics here, can't wait to see this grown in! Great job!
When you release the tweezers, wiggle it slightly, that will allow the roots to get covered by extra substrate before you pull them out.
Looks great. Looking forward to seeing progress!
I follow a pretty long list of freshwater channels since that’s what I have at home. I haven’t subscribed to any saltwater channels until yours! This is the only video I’ve seen and I can tell I won’t regret hitting subscribe.
Its gonna look sweet when it fills in. You should consider a frosted background for the back glass. It would really make it look awesome.
Brian's Fish Tanks that would look awesome!
Good call, in the works!
just following moki’s channel for about 2 months... and man, this guy spends! lol. i can’t even get away with half his expenses!
Lol so true about the prawns. For that price I would go to the restaurant and buy some from their tanks hehe.
I have a question. Will you get die-off with a dry start? Or only when you flood?
I know the is abit late lol but good tip when planting just use a finger to hold the plant in place when you pull the tweezers out should stay no problem. Also when you put your film over the top you need to leave a narrow gap for air to get in, like 1cm... From what I gather with dry start method that is the single most important step
Cool video, I'm glad you showed people the shopping theory.
Man you have your winter jacket on there. I forgot it gets cold in December. Was almost 90* here today. And you're down in Maryland, so not that bad. I can imagine how much seriously colder it must be up north. Yikes!!
Planted tank looking good. I wouldn't turn down the light though. Nor would I air it out. I'd let it sit. Keep the humidity as high as possible and you'll see quicker growth.
Java Moss is like the xenia and green star polyps of fresh water, be careful it doesn't take over the tank keep it trimmed and get all the trimmings out or it will grow everywhere
Nah. That's duckweed.
After you mentioned it sounding dirty I laughed all the way through the rest of the video. Subbed
This is dope. A RUclips’s suggestion turned out to be a local. Just went to House of Tropical and Tropical Lagoon this week.
Nice start. I have some nice seiryu stones if you need some.
Lol, I kept hoping you would think of using a chopstick or something similar to make a little hole in the substrate, then use it instead of your finger to hold the plant down while you pulled the tweezers out. But hey - you got there in the end! I like it and I agree an additional rock might look good, add further interest. 👍🏻👍🏻
Damn, I should have thought of that earlier... I have practiced all my life for this. Will try that next time and see if chopstick > tweezer. Btw, added additional rock and it's looking 5x better!
you have to be gentle bro! 😆 to me it's a lot easier with water ... highlight & co2👌🏽 would love to see cherry shrimp or crystal red 😃 awesome update
Keeping that aquarium shallow with Killifish would look great and be very unique.
Man! You hit all my spots!!! DMV FTW!!!
DMV!
You are always so critical of your rock work. Think it looks awesome! Are you going to paint the back glass of the tank? Add some depth?
Have to when the tank is so small, lol. Thanks man! I plan to put some frosted background on this tank
If you did this today then I just missed you there. Good luck on the planted tank
Nice to meet another local on here!
That cliffhanger
Looks great
Would love to know what light you're using on this tank!
Editing sure makes it look easy lol. Those other guys are crazy 😜
Inappropriate reefer you should get some hairgrass, and maybe some java ferns too
looks awesome! and did I hear mention of a terrarium? hmmmmmm.... 🐸
;-)
You should have used the smaller grain Amazonia. It’s better for carpeting plants and it’s better for the proportions too.
But love the channel anyways!
Damn, did not know they make a smaller grain one... next time!
It’s probably not necessary also powder Amazonia doesn’t stay together and turns to dust after a while.also the tanks large enough for standard size.
java moss grows wild around my house. Like 10x10 foot sheets of it everywhere. lining my shrimp tank with it as a carpet.
It looks awesome! Holy crap! Like the rock the way it is!
On another note, thanks for being a sponsor for Rico's nano tank challenge, I will be in it... I openly challenge you to join! Thanks sir.
P.s. your pull out game is weak son! Just messing with you.
LOLLLLL!!! Better pull out early than late!
Inappropriate Reefer na, you take it all the way to the hole baby!
I had a hard time growing monte carlo because I just shoved the whole bunch in shallow substrate. it was my first time growing anything, It all died!. Next time I plant monte carlo I'll definetly use the dry method I learned alot from my mistakes.
I liked this video becuz it wasnt all perfect.. my pull out game was weak too at first lol
I was just at House of Tropics on Sunday.
do you have any video on Dark Start Method?
WHERE DID YOU GET THE LAMP IN YO HOUSE SIR?! Great aquarium setup! well done.
you need more substrate in the back. it'll create a hill. the rocks look great.
Thanks for the video. by the way, do you need to mix liquid fertilizer to water for spraying? and also, do you need to open a small hole on the tank cover while covering the tank to let air get inside the tank?
No and no
What substrate are you using?
hahaha i remember when i first started last oct28,2018...thats the same issue i encounter...the PLANTING...damn! it was so frustrating...and the wait...i cant bear with it...
so after 2weeks when i saw some plants died...some scapers advice to flood it already...now its ok...it has livestock already since my daughter keeps on saying that we need to have a fish...
Could you please let me know what are the size of your tank and light, where did you get them? I'm a very beginner. I just subscribed you to learn more. Thanks
Did you use co2?
I was so mad when trying to plant my dwarf baby tears. I'm still new to aquascaping but it's soo frustrating some times when it doesn't go as planned. Just need to trust the process
Looking good..
Pitch it on the roots part. It’s very frustrating when that happen to me. A little more water would help as the substrate would sinking down instead of sticking on your tweezer
Hi please do update ur dwarf baby tears condition weekly or monthly! Love seeing it! Btw good videos
Thanks for watching Louis!
What lights are you using for the tank ?
If your going to add more rock, do it now rather than later. Once it start’s carpeting, your going to struggle to add more rock. Definitely should of gone for smaller substrate. If your going to hill your substrate like that, I would put pegs in to stop it all from falling down. George Farmer has a RUclips channel he’s a uk Aquascaper, it might help you out. :) I think it’s impossible to go in any fish store with out buying anything! 😂 I have both fresh and marine and some how always come home with something for both tanks. 🙈
Thanks for the tips, I am looking up the pegging method! Btw, added more rock to the scape and it is look 5x better! =)
Where can I buy these two seeds from??
For macro algae, you should check out eBay. There are lots of vendors selling for cheap on there
So you push it in, open it up, and pull out... got it. 🤔😶
Dont you forget the strech tite !!!!
Make sure u get deeeep in there !
y'all are dirty
Do i put the rubber before or after going in
lol, the advice i read most often for planting is to plant it like the 5 dots on a dice face
Will try that next time!
Thinking of getting a bubble tip anemone this upcoming week. Is there anything I should prepare. Kinda scared cause the first anemone I bought died in my nano cause I can't run a cooler on that small tank and the temp was 30°c. The anemone cooked in it. I want to try again in my bigger tank that i run a chiller on and the corals inside are thriving. 9 month old tank. I might just give it a go. Gotta cover the wavemaker with something first tho
Hey your tank has been up for 9 months and things are doing well, you should have no problem! Covering wavemaker would probably be a safe bet but as long as the anemone is healthy and it finds a happy place quickly, wavemaker / powerhead shouldn't pose a danger. BTA is a good choice. =)
where do you live that you have this awesome aquarium store?
Anyone else bust out laughing when he said "push it in, open it up and pull out" 😂😂😂
I’m 3 weeks into the dry start method of growing Monte Carlo and I’m getting some leaves going brown. Why is this happening? I’m allowing fresh air to enter tank for 5 mins and then misting then closing plastic film wrap over tank and leaving light on for 12 hours daily. Also using ADA Amazonia soil but not using CO2 system as yet.
10 hours only
Many dont know how to plant this type of plant ^^ I made a pic in paint on a technique that works great with 99% plants including dwarf baby tears! imgur.com/a/s74GU its all about coming in and going out in a angle/pull rather then coming from top and a push.
I can’t be the only one who crushed some of my substrate can I?
a trick to doing carpet plant iwagumis is to grab a bunch and i mean a bunch of bobby pins and pin everything in place with them then remove them a couple weeks later
Not sure if serious or...
100% serious
obviously you can use something other then bobby pins if you want but bobby pins are cheap
Nice Looking tank though
Ever since I started keeping shrimp I started feeling bad/squeemish about eating them! I used to love eating all shrimp even raw in sushi... But now when I see 🍤on my plate i see my own 🦐! 😬
If you do a dry start, that will allow for great root growth, but be aware that the leaves on the plant will melt back a little when you add water; because they need to reacclamate to a new environment, moving fro air to water.
They melt regardless as most carpet is culture and not grown fully submersed
Where is tropical lagoon at Ive never even heard of it?
It's in Silver Spring, MD, a very small shopping center
Co2???
The frustration has begun!
I would add those rocks sooner than later before you pull up the carpet accidentally or have soil dust going everywhere that becomes a never ending story lol also Keep the baby dwarf tears trimmed regularly, so the whole carpet doesn't lift up in one go and probably not a good idea to have guppies as mine liked to eat, peck/pull and play with every plant I had which is another reason you see mainly tectras.
Advice 1: The rock on the right will quickly disappear when the plants start to grow... you need to think how it will look with grown out plants.
Advice 2: I'd move more substrate to the back, you have a very thick layer showing on the front glass. It would be better to remove some substrate or to make it higher on the back to add depth to the tank.
Advice 3: When trying to do higher areas with substrate it's important to have something holding the substrate in place, or you'll end up with a flat aquascape. I tried it before and it was a nightmare to to keep the hills in place... www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/one-tree-hills.43326/
Advice 4: A heat mat under the tank will greatly improve the humidity inside the tank and substrate temperature during the dry start, which the plants will love.
Advice 5: Plants are not like corals, they won't suffer from light shock after flooding, CO2 as you already know is the main thing to worry about... with the dry start you can leave the lights on 24/7 at 100% without any issues.
Advice 6: Since you are a beginner and are starting with an Iwagumi scape (which means there's no place for fast growing stem plants), you should look for floating plants, like Dwarf Water Lettuce, as it will help you a lot outcompeting algae in that tank after you fill it up.
Anyway, I think you are on the right track! Good luck!
Thank you so much for taking the time to give me the advices! All are very valid and I adjusted the scape a bit, although still don't have anything in place to hold the hilly substrate in place, I was hoping the hc roots will help keep the shape but am I being too optimistic? Great tips on the heated mat and light during the dry start, thank you!
Glad to help! The great thing about this hobby is that most of us help each other out!
Since you are aiming for a full HC carpet, you may be ok without anything holding the substrate. Just let the HC grow as much as you can before flooding the tank.
There is a Journal with a very high Iwagumi hill scape in the same forum I posted before and the guy managed ok just with the plants holding the substrate. www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/hanging-rock-45p-iwagumi.49897/
Ok just a friendly reminder may save your tank but you might get some mold if so spray some peroxide diluted with water and spray at the mold... may save your all your plants
Good tip!
If you pushed the plants in on an angle and let go. The plants won't come out.
What is the thing at 0:36
That's a horseshoe crab, usually gets too large for reef aquarium... (that's a baby)
13:55 don't pull out bro...😏
Let's get some Crystal shrimp in there
I would love to, except they have to co-exist with ghost shrimps (feeders for Mochi)...
We eat them for dinner too.
6:20 that is a tortoise not a turtle
Monte Carlo is easier to grow in case you don't have any luck with the baby tears.
I also had same problem 😂 so I used aquatic seeds instead ✌️😄
where do you live ? lol oyu and are guns make great friends !!!
Watch out for mold my dude
freshwater wednesday. How inappropriate ;)
Dude Close your eyes and listen to the part where you were planting 😂It sounds so wrong
Very sexual episode. I loved it! 😂
😅😅😅
they didn't even write anemone right on the sign xD
I'm currently doing a DSM. I thought it would be nice to sub to you
13:02
