- We have almost owned the TANK 300 for a week now and it’s time to put it to the test OffRoad. We take this GWM offering to our favourite 4x4 park, Loveday and put. It through its paces and learn what all the modes are and how capable this new vehicle may be

They are shitty cooper HTs as well. They really do suck on the dirt. So the fact that it did that well is really impressive

The options that Chinese users usually modify include: raising the suspension by 1-2 inches (the maximum should not exceed 2 inches), replacing shock absorbers, replacing off-road tires, installing winches, installing chassis guards, roof brackets or roof tents . Add a radio dialogue device in the car...can be used as a reference
Need to be careful with the crummy payload. Just shy of 400kg.

Here in S.A. I have to daily drive on 4km of bad gravel/mud road to reach the main tar road . This section gets pretty cut up after rain and is poorly maintained. I know its not off road but this vehicle looks like a good compromise for my conditions.

Pretty impressive on stock tyres
Here in WA, I spotted the hybrid version of Tank 300 on the Lancelin dunes, and the sandy track to Wedge Island. It went very well, for a smallish 4WD that weighs over two tons. It was covered in that black and white camo pattern that prototype cars on test programs typically have, to prevent identification by media or industry snoops?

Those traction control modes seem really redundant in a twin locked vehicle to me. I'm impressed with how that went.

Maybe but in the pionerrung LR system it changes aspects such as throttle sensitivity.

Traction modes don’t function when locked anyway - they can’t as your axles are locked no traction control can work unless it operates on both sides at the same time and that would be detrimental.
Pretty impressive for stock standard, once the Dash Off-road and 4x4 DNA upgrade happens, this Tank will most likely be a good option for those looking for something that’s not a Y62 or LC 300/200. Good honest feedback David.
It is more in the jimny category due to its gvm I think.

I have seen Tank 300 in intense action and use on difficult terrains when I was in China and have to say, as a FJ Cruiser owner I am impressed and best of all it comes with front locker unlike FJ Cruiser or Prado.
Had my tank for a year now, I have been all over the South African trails , never let me down. Can literally climb the side of a house once you fully understand how to use it.
The thing I find amazing is that the hybrid and this unit show up to the task the same, they seem to be just as good as one another ... I think I may get the hybrid only because I do some serious highway kms and the EV side may drive down that /100km numbers
Hybrids are much more efficient at city driving in stop start traffic
At this moment it’s not a plugin hybrid and it can’t run on the electric motor only. The hybrid model has more torque and saves a bit of fuel when crawling. But that’s pretty much it.

Just got back from the Suzhou GT Exhibition. Hundreds of built out TANK300's there. What was exciting was the amount of GVM upgrades - none of these will be strictly speaking legal in China (after 6 years it won't pass its inspection), but nearly all of them were looking to export internationally.
Crawl is the button on the center console under the modes.
Downhill descent is to the driver side door under the AC vent, along with some light controls - stupid location makes no sense.

Funny, how I always thought how ridiculous it is for car companies to be asking a good part of $100k to have a decent 4WD straight out of the box, and now my prayers are answered.
The only reason they are so cheap, apart from cheaply and poorly put together, is they actively steal other companies IP so they don't have to pay R&D costs that then have to be passed on in the price of a car. Every Chinese manufacture steals, hacks and bribes ! That is the Chinese/CCP way !

I'm looking out for a future demo model, which should be savings of thousands, with still the full 7/7 warranty, or a near new used example in the next year or eighteen months or so. More savings still. Even more, I'm holding out for the diesel/hybrid option, that they have in Chi-na, and are looking to export.

Twin locked, under body protection makes cars super capable.
Twin diff locks can make any car good offroad. This car might get others to pick up there game.What is the low range ratio?

Very impressive, I think with slightly larger tyres with All-terrain or mud terrain tread will be even better , maybe won’t hold up to 20 years of weekly 4wding like a landcruiser but for the average family that goes twice a year this would be a great alternative , nice video .

@@wozzach2540 I’ve seen and service many landcruisers from the 90s and early 2000s that are running perfectly well with 3-400,000km on them with all original engine and trans , how can you not agree landcruisers don’t last 20-30 years with good maintenance, I won’t comment on 300 series as it’s new but the others yes .

GWM has launched Tank 300 and 500 both Petrol and hybrid, tank 400 and 700 are on the way, available soon in China this year. The plan is they will have Tank from 100 to Tank 900. So Tank 300 petrol is just a tiny step out of the process, can’t imagine if 700 and 900 coming to Australia as 300 is already such capable and affordable.
Yes tank 500 is coming in October, dealer told me. 500 is much much more luxurious inside

If they could dumb it down to 2 buttons for lockers, and a gearbox that did what you asked it'd be great. I hope they simplify it for the next generation.
The kicker with this will be the warranty experiance and durability after a few months ownership. If anything breaks or comes loose how easy will it be to get fixed. Looks good though.
It sells the best in off road cars in China, I mean no one want to buy the thing with unstable quality especially for off road traveling

It certainly have the power, but lacked of smart features for it to determine what road condition it was in. Hence the manually turning on different mode for it to tackle the obstacle ahead.
Overall, pretty impressive for a brand i've never heard about.
2.0 litre 4 pot petrol is pretty good apparently but surely the $9k more for the hybrid makes a hell of lot of sense, much, much more power and better range/economy plus more glitz and comfort!

Happy to compare it to a near stock 1984 SJ40 sierra. No lockers 1 litre 4speed manual, 300,000km. I just don't want to drive it there. 😅

Do the various off road modes employ a Brake-based Traction control system or they automatically engage diff lockers, seems vehicles relies more on diff lockers.
It’s an ABS thing. But doesn’t matter when you hit the twin lock button

It did very well. If it proves reliable and has good after care then it will be a good seller. The engine seemed a bit gutless, sounded like you were reving the nuts out of it on every hill. Lack of torque maybe? Or was it just the video making it sound more revy than it really was.
I am seriously considering buying on, just a little nervous about the braking at speed videos I've seen.

only if you're less than 1.6m, or you sleep on a diagonal.
In China, they have mods on quick release mechanism for cushions of rear seats, then you can remove cushions and get a 2-metre long space. Otherwise, you can only get around 1.7 metres.

Seems like a worthy competitor to that other new kid on the block, the Grenadier, though I'd bet the Tank would win hands down on price! It's, of course, too early to evaluate reliability and durability but that will be interesting to see in time.
I think the Grenadier needs a fair bit of refinement to come close to the TANK
