I'm an African American woman who wasn't brave enough to do this decades ago. BEFORE creaking limbs & poor health set up permanent camp in my body. How beautiful the town looks. What a wonderful way for them to grow together replacing one brick, repairing one wall, decorating one room at a time. I too am shedding tears of what might have been while going along with them on this wonderful journey. Don't think I would have even minded the spiders?

I am so excited to find you on you tube. My husband and I live in California and have just finished all the documentation for a Maison we have purchased in Sourdeval France. We are still in that 3 month waiting period but will have keys at the end of May. We are so excited and like you, made a wild spur of the moment decision to purchase after a month or so of looking online. Our maison needs mostly cosmetic work and we will still be primarily be living in California as my husband is a Horse Show Judge and still working. However, we are excited for the opportunity to live a part of our year in France and see if we want to make it permanent as we move into retirement. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. You are just killing me!! My very favorite dinner! Baguette and cheese and red wine. Ahhhhhhhhh. All you need is some heat and a cozy clean room to sleep! When I have lived in a construction zone, a hot plate, working shower, flushing toilet, and clean clean, if not remodeled bedroom to sleep, kept me at peace because I was so excited to see the end project. Retired now, in my coastal cottage, it was a slog for seven months, full time. But to be at peace, content with the beautiful things surrounding you, bit by bit, your dream will appear out of the dust. You’ll say never ever again……….but like me, you may just tackle one more……….❤❤❤❤❤ How I love the dreamers and the doers! ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ PS. Anytime you can unblock a window, I would do it! You can never have too much light in a home.

We were based In Carcassonne when we arrived in France and in the spring the poppies were everywhere! Our house is about an hour west of Toulouse heading toward Bordeaux. ❤️🇫🇷🏰🇫🇷❤️
I understand about warming the house. My friend had an old stone farmhouse in Brittany. Even with the boiler going, the fireplace and the big firebox in the kitchen, we froze for two days. Once warm however, the old stones hold heat and you can turn the boiler down. Isn’t it wonderful to be back!! I’m so happy for you both!

Hello guys, welcome back. I imagine what it can be to arrive to a cold house in rural France in mid winter after a long trip. Do you have chimneys in the house which would allow you to install a wood stove or a fireplace?
Thank you Francois. Yes we have 5 chimneys altogether but we have not had them properly checked as of yet. We hope to install some type of log burners or at least have a small open fire. Definitely an important project for this year!

Do you all not have electricity in all of the house? I can only Imagine how good the French pastries and breads are. How often do you get to France from Finland?
We are slowly adding it throughout the house but want also to look into some log burners. With the price of electric it wouldn't be too smart to heat the entire house when not using all the rooms. The bills was can quite big. Yes the bakeries are just amazing, we really cannot stop filling ourselves! We get there every chance we can so maybe every 3-4 months. Just have to plan around work here in Helsinki.
Thanks Rita. We often take just a range of Bordeaux reds, on the cheaper side and try them all. Im afraid the bottle from the video has been thrown out already so cannot just remember.

Hello, be carefully of the price of electricity, going up here in France. You may have some surprises. You should think of wood burning stove. The price of wood is still better than electricity. 😉
Thanks for the advice Florence. We have to definitely be careful and check on the prices and consumption every day. It quickly gets expensive! Definitely going to look into some stoves!
There has been no problem with a male couple setting up in a small rural village? I always wonder about attitudes in country areas, that might be less welcoming towards non-heterosexual couples.

Hello guys, welcome back. I imagine what it can be to arrive to a cold house in rural France in mid winter after a long trip. Do you have chimneys in the house which would allow you to install a wood stove or a fireplace?
Thank you Francois. Yes we have 5 chimneys altogether but we have not had them properly checked as of yet. We hope to install some type of log burners or at least have a small open fire. Definitely an important project for this year!

Do you all not have electricity in all of the house? I can only Imagine how good the French pastries and breads are. How often do you get to France from Finland?
We are slowly adding it throughout the house but want also to look into some log burners. With the price of electric it wouldn't be too smart to heat the entire house when not using all the rooms. The bills was can quite big. Yes the bakeries are just amazing, we really cannot stop filling ourselves! We get there every chance we can so maybe every 3-4 months. Just have to plan around work here in Helsinki.
Btw, we’re Irish too. We want to be in France too.❤️😘😘

There has been no problem with a male couple setting up in a small rural village? I always wonder about attitudes in country areas, that might be less welcoming towards non-heterosexual couples.
Thankfully we have only a wonderful positive experience. We were apprehensive of course, but people could not be nicer.
