The tapestry was woven on an automatic Jacquard loom circa 1900. It is done with cards which control the weft. It's a very complicated machine which was invented in the 18th century in France.
I love market days. They're good for people watching as well as finding good buys. I have to be careful because I will buy foods, particularly olives and oysters. 😋 I know a woman here in the Aude who makes soaps. She makes citron-vetiver scented soaps for me for my house and overnight guests get a bar as a gift. The bars are shaped like the blue & white house number on the front of the house with the number 19 (my address) slightly raised. The Netflix series "Dix Pour-cent" is one of my favorites. Glad to know the artwork on the walls was donated by the show. Cheers gentlemen!
Thank you very much for allowing us along to experience your visits to wonderful French markets and thrift shops. Greetings from the Central Oregon Coast. 💙
Thank you both for sharing! Your house buying/restoration journey has changed my house hunt. Have been looking in Pays de Loire and now am including Charente in my search. Love how you are able to go swimming in your village. Plus, the market in neighboring Rouillac is so beautiful! Thanks again.
@@charenteliving Yes they are, the best one I visited for bits and bobs was the flea market in Paris the largest in Europe I believe, I feel a road trip from the UK to France is in order.. ☺️
Thank you so much for allowing me to saunter around the markets with you and stop to browse at all my favourite kind of stalls - absolutely loved the flea market shop! Given the citrus trees fruit in the chilly winters there, as here in rural NSW Australia, I think definitely, pot up an orange tree as well as a lemon and lime for the kitchen - they will brighten up your lovely courtyard no end. Oh, and personally, I'd hang that beautiful tapestry a couple of feet higher so that it can be viewed while descending the stairs. Thank you again for another visual feast to feed my senses- more, more, more...
Lovely! French markets are the best! Establishing relationships with vendors providing things you like will repay you tenfold! Unfortunately, avoiding those you do not like is part of the bargain.
I must admit that I am not very sophisticated myself, but enjoy you're sense of style, you both seem chic, posh and even elegant. Yet not snobbish : ) I enjoyed the custom soaps the most. Supermarkets are the bain of the worlds health conditions : ( Fair well, till next time, watching from San Diego P. S. Lovely gloves
My favorite thing to do in France!! Except I’d Spend $50 euros a week on cheese and bread! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Have fun! Wish I was there💕 Buy some of the blue and white kitchen towels. ❤
Loved watching you go around the shops and markets, as we are going to buy house in france, and it was so interesting for me and hubby. Thank you excited about watching the rest of your videos.
There was a sign on one of the sections of the soap merchant that said "savon au lait d'ânesse", that's donkey milk soap!!! 😂😂 I bet it would make you feel like Cleopatra as it is said that bathing in donkey milk was beauty secret. 🤣🤣🤣
Lovely video guys. The Market was amazing. So many stalls, i would have been there from sumri to sunset Matilde is a very chic lady. Your purchases are very nice. They suit the house so well.

The soap stall 😍 loved your outing today. Ireland would have these if we had a roof 🙄 but the cork indoor market is fantastic
Thanks so much Elizabeth. Haha yes we wouldn't last too long with the outdoor markets in Ireland, but as you say the indoor ones are beautiful too!

Haha good to know. Next time we must pick some of that up so we can still feel royal while doing the renovations in the house.
I am amazed at the flee markets in France! They are abundant and carry fabulous things! Perhaps a good thing I don't live there!!!
They are so great! Such fun to see all the different things.
I have taken the round about route many times too just to avoid sellers or people in general :)
Haha good to know there are more like us!!

Just seen the tapestry. It’s gros point
Thanks so much for the info!
je vous souhaite bonne chance les gars c'est dans un pays étranger c'est différent LES FRANCAIS SONT DES GENS BIEN MET NE LE DITES A PERSONNES
haha Nous ne le dirons à personne !
Do you think the tapestry is depicting a specific story? Fable? Fairytale?
Don't recognise any specific story, so perhaps just a scene of merriment from the 18th century. .
Bonsoir, did you get some scallops?
No scallops this time Florence.
We can all dream a life in a Chateau! 😂
haha Absolutely Kate!
It's a canevas
I would spend sooooooo much money on that market and get even fatter then I am now!
So easy to buy everything there. We had to restrain ourselves quite a bit!!
Oh my darlings! Try not to sound so morose!
Hoping to sound quite the opposite!
Yes things can be bought in flea markets, but you will still pay the price.I don't want to dis your girl in the nice faux fur coat that was guiding you .?
Many smaller shops in our area still have low prices like the shop we visited, so many good bargains can be found.
